General Discussion / Re: Random Stuff Part IV

It's not a garden path sentence, but I always liked "Flying planes can be scary". Is that in a Wikipedia article? I forget. I think we talked about it in a linguistics class I took.

Was Nocturne designed especially with full random in mind?  To me it's felt like, these are some of my favorite mechanics but it gets a bit overwhelming when you're playing with lots of Nocturne cards.  It solves the issue that Dark Ages and Prosperity have of having a really fun mechanic that only 3 cards use, so I can see that being a consideration.  But I know you've said you mostly play with two or so expansions at a time.

Dominion Articles / Re: Draw-to-X engines

I think it would be worth it to include a list of draw-to-x cards, since really only 4 cards say "draw until you have x cards in your hand" (and Jack isn't that great of an engine card). I mean, at this point we all probably know, but for newer players it's good to mention that Minion, Menagerie, and Scholar are lumped in with the other cards.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: card ranking lists
« on: October 09, 2018, 11:20:14 pm »
i'm with u.  How is this even close to that low. It thins ur dek, turns estates into useful cards.

It doesn't thin your deck, it replaces stop cards with other stop cards, and it is itself a stop card that requires you to get another stop card (Potion) before you can even get it. Turning Estates into Gold is not as great as it sounds when you can only start doing that on your third shuffle after adding in two glorified Curses to your deck.

I actually meant to respond to transmogrify.  Didn't see someone the transmute part.  yeah transmute is awful.  And belongs at the bottom of any list.

But Transmogrify doesn't thin your deck either... unless you have Sewers!

I'm not sure what you're saying is wrong here.  It seems to be functioning correctly.

What I'd really like is a term encompassing Events, Landmarks, and Projects, since they share a selection process.

Donald has used "sideways cards" and "landscape-style cards".

But that includes Boons, Hexes, States, and Artifacts, which is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the sideways cards that are selected as part of the kingdom selection process and it's recommended not to have more than two of them. I like Add-ons, I think I'll start using that.

I get that's what it's supposed to be, but wording doesn't make sense.

How does it not make sense? You discard the Coppers, revealed. And then you draw that many cards.

You discard the coppers, revealed? But no coppers were revealed. There's nothing that says to reveal your hand. The syntax is messed up. How does that make sense?
"Revealed" means "also, reveal those coppers, so that we know they are coppers. By the way sorry for saying this so tersely but there's only so much room on the cards and if it had ever confused anyone in playtesting man I would have changed it."

Was “reveal and discard” considered? It should be basically the same character count.

But where are they revealed from? Often things are revealed from the top of your deck, or somewhere else.

Innovation is a Project, not an Artifact  :P

Hmm.. If you play a Crown in your Night phase, I suppose it does nothing?

It's a little tricky to tell from online artwork: are Artifacts Duration orange, Reserve tan, or a new colour not previously used?
And I predict that the project template will be landscape with a sort of faint pink background.

Isn't that already States?

12
Also: I predict projects will be blue
It's a little tricky to tell from online artwork: are Artifacts Duration orange, Reserve tan, or a new colour not previously used?

Personally, I always felt that the Landmarks which "react" to in-game events should have been blue, with only the game-end scoring ones being green, but there we go.

Besides Reaction blue and whichever of orange and tan Artifacts aren't, what else is left for landscape card-shaped objects? Ruins brown? Nocturnal black?

I think, as with all the landscape things, Artifacts are a slightly different color from any cards. They look closest to reserves to me though.

I just realized, does Treasurer mean that Overgrown Estate and Hovel are once again the only cards you can never gain? I guess you could gain the Heirlooms with Thief, but who's playing with Thief in 2018?

13
Can you take the treasure chest if Swashbuckler doesn't give you coffers, and you just have leftover coffers from previous turns?

You cannot.  It's all after the "If your discard pile has any cards in it:" clause.  Also, Donald X. stated this explicitly in the OP: "... but you still need a discard pile at least once to get the Treasure Chest".

Ok I did a good job reading. Of course, it was 3AM for me when I read that, so my comprehension was not the best.

14
Can you take the treasure chest if Swashbuckler doesn't give you coffers, and you just have leftover coffers from previous turns?

I haven't played with these cards yet but that's what I was wondering. I hope this doesn't start another Fool debate, but I do find it a little ambiguous.

Also: I predict projects will be blue and have a selection process more like events and landmarks. Watch me be totally wrong!

15
These are really exciting!

But oh boy, Treasurer/Lamp...

16
Ducat: It's decent. I'm kind of disappointed you can't trash Coppers in play.

Just think of it as revisiting overpay.

As of Day 3 we've seen:

- 11/25 kingdom cards, 0/25 sideways cards, 0/12 wooden cubes, 6/6 playmats, and 35/35 tokens
- 1/3 Treasures, 1/2 Attacks, 0/2 Duration cards, and 0/1 Reaction
- 6/15 uses for tokens (probably)
- 6/16 uses of "trash"
- no card with a word in quotation marks on it
- a card with only 3 words on it (Acting Troupe); a card with only 4 words on it (Scholar)
- 0/3 ways to play Actions in your Buy phase
- no way to take a turn after the game would otherwise be over
- no trasher you can't turn off
- nothing that cares about shuffling

18
[Insert joke about Making Fun and Ducats]. But actually, how do you pronounce that word?

I'm glad we're getting some +buy in the previews. I was getting a lot of games without it.

19
I don't think it's top and bottom as in flipping the mat, I think it's just divided into two sections on the same side. But I haven't seen it so I don't know for sure.

Is matching speed prioritized over previews? Because I tried to play a game with previews and it said no one else was searching for previews, then matched me to a game without them.

21
When specifically can you spend a Villager?

At any time during your Action phase. Any time. A-N-Y time!

That's good, I was kind of worried it was going to be like Coffers and you could only spend them at the beginning of the phase.

Day 2:

- 8/25 kingdom cards, 0/25 sideways cards, 0/12 wooden cubes, 6/6 playmats, and 35/35 tokens (we haven't seen the mats and tokens, but you get a peak at dominion.games)
- 0/3 Treasures, 0/2 Attacks, 0/2 Duration cards, and 0/1 Reaction
- 3/15 uses for tokens
- 4/16 uses of "trash"
- no card with a word in quotation marks on it
- a card with only 3 words on it (Acting Troupe); a card with only 4 words on it (Scholar)
- 0/3 ways to play Actions in your Buy phase
- no way to take a turn after the game would otherwise be over
- no trasher you can't turn off
- nothing that cares about shuffling

Sorry if I stole your thunder, J Reggie! I was curious to see where we stand. :)

No worries, I wasn't the first one to do it either. So does "uses for tokens" just mean ways to get tokens? Because I guess 15 would be a large number for what I was thinking, which was things like Butcher where the tokens have their own use.

I just bought an IGG specifically so I could gain Coppers with it.

24
And with every expansion it gets to be more!

Scholar is the card with 4 words.

Oh cool. I will update accordingly. I guess I was right about only counting the card text.
