Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Dominion Scavenger is Back

The site is down still fwiw.  Did they ever resolve this issue?  Or is this hosted somewhere else now?

It's gone. Everyone is using the bot on Discord these days.

I was convinced you were Kevin Costner, reading this.

FWIW the blacklist button also reports the player.
It's true, but half of the people I blacklist aren't because they are rude, and I don't want them to be banned or anything. I just don't want to play with them anymore for one reason or another.  It would be good to have a separate "report" option.
As one of the two mods who can even see this data, I assure you you don't need to worry about us not being able to tell the difference. Blacklist liberally.

Well then maybe a solution would be to make this information known through dominion.games so everybody knows exactly what blacklisting does.

Tell that to the guy programming the site. Or maybe don't because I'm pretty sure it's been suggested many times, along with every other possible solution to this problem.

Normally, people never wake up from their fantasy worlds. They live meaningless lives. They waste their precious days over nothing. No matter how old they get, they continue saying, "My real life hasn't started yet. The real me is asleep. That's why my life is such garbage." They continue to tell themselves that. And they age. Then die. And on their deathbeds, they finally realize: The life they lived was the real thing. People don't live provisional lives, nor do they die provisional deaths. That's a simple fact. The problem is whether they realize that simple fact.

7
Possession votes must be people going "it must be banned because it's too good". It's not.

Disagree. I legitimately think it's the second best Potion card. Broken combos aside, it's a multiple turn enabler that you can stack. That is a power card regardless of cost.

8
Star chart guarantees reliability no matter what the deck is. Scheme only does that in narrow circumstances. Scheme has a higher ceiling, but in the context of all games, star chart is far more reliable. I usually open with it.

9
The buff for Poor House really isn't that significant. It's just coin at the end of the day. A little cheaper, but unimpressive. Pirate Ship is likely the most significant buff overall, as it becomes a deadly attack card under Capitalism. The amount of potential sales hurt by piracy is not to be underestimated.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Thunderdominion Card List Results
« on: January 08, 2019, 08:14:26 am »
Sounds like a fun process!

Looks like some tactical voting took place here...
14. Tactician (-3/62)

And Alchemist had quite some following...
6. University (10/12)
7. Alchemist (100/120)

In fact in many of the lists, the vote count for the top card in of the bottom half looks odd. Eg the middle of the Empires list:
11. Enchantress (12/21)
12. Wild hunt (12/14)
13. Engineer (2/14)
14. Sacrifice (13/21)
Reading that consistently with the other vote counts, it would mean that 2 out of 14 people selected Engineer as the worst card in the set {Wild hunt, Engineer}, whereas I suspect it actually means that 12 out of 14 people selected Wild hunt as better than Engineer and 2 out of 14 voted the other way.

You don't know how happy this makes me

Dominion General Discussion / Thunderdominion Card List Results
« on: January 07, 2019, 09:31:38 pm »
On Dominion Discord, we've spent the past several months working on a group card ranking project. The method (stolen from Mekkah from the Fire Emblem reddit community--check out his videos on Youtube if you love FE btw) was as such:
1. We focused on one expansion at a time.
2. Voters chose what they thought was the best card and worst card in the set.
3. I waited until a decent number of people had voted, and then added the winner and loser to the list in first and last place.
4. I removed those two cards from the pool and everyone voted on the best and worst of the REMAINING cards.
5. Repeat 2-4 until the entire set was ranked.

You may think you have an exciting, original criticism of this methodology. You are incorrect. We already debated it to death over the past few months, lol. It is what it is! If you'd like to run a "better" version, please join us on the server and do so if you would like to! It might be fun to compare the results to the Qvist Lists or something. Here's that link: https://discord.gg/6Pveru9

Events were ranked all in one group. Projects were ranked after, as Renaissance came out during the process. It should be noted that (for whatever this is worth) the majority of voters were top players, though sometimes even they had trouble reaching consensus.

As an added wrinkle, all votes were public and everyone was encouraged to debate placements, so lots of vote changes happened. We all learned things.

At any rate, we've come to the end, and I can't quite capture the entire experience for you if you missed it, but here are the lists. I was going to make a podcast type video series going over each one, but I just can't make that happen--my home is too noisy and I never have any free time. Text will have to do.

Explanation of the numbers: If you see Donate (11/12), that means there were 12 total voters and 11 selected Donate. Simple as that.

This probably should have been in Alchemy, since its best friend resides there.

Yeah, transmute is pretty lonely at the bottom...

Is this well tested in 4 player games? It seems to be very swingy and somewhat political (like buying Flagbearer just to capture the flag from another player).

Small question: Flag Key interacts with Outpost, but not with Guide, have I understood that correctly? And it is often (but not always) worse than Hireling or Princed Ruined Library in case of handsize attacks.

The majority of playtesting is done IRL with 3-4 player games.

The sensors are located about a car length back at certain intersections. Sometimes it's optimal to back up if you are the only one waiting to turn.

You can use discord entirely in browser. (That's what I do)

Werewolf is quickly becoming one of my favorite cards. It's just so positive and generous. Practically costs nothing at all at five coin you drop him on the board and that chill ass motherfucker gives you a smithy to use later in the game. And you also get this adorable little hex can ping things but usually is too harmless to be resolved.

But more than the ww is just so positive. It comes on the board like "do you want to cast a hex?" and I'm like "yeah ww i do want to cast a hex let's do this shit" and when he attacks he's like "HEXES ARE FUN" and I'm like "yeah they are SO FUN." He doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" he's just like "nah hexes are fun." And it looks so happy. I mean this is an anthropomorphic wolf literally brought to life by treasure cards. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean look at his face he's just so happy.

I am literally never sad when werewolf is on board. IDK if he's gonna make it into the metagame or not but for now he (or she) a pretty chill card

On a (now) unrelated note, I found it much easier to quit previous addictions if I cut myself out of all related communities/forums as well. I recognize that this is hard to do, especially if one has friends there.

I know what you mean to say here. But I paid for that membership on coughsyrupfriends.org and I'm not going to just throw 6,42€ away.

There are all kinds of reasons quitting something might be difficult! The argument is still the same. If you don't want to play a game anymore, the amount you spent doesn't actually matter.

jsh, what are your matchmaking parameters set at? If you play worse players, there tends to be much lesss downtime.

I'm a top level player, and I'm not a baby. I'd like to play people around my level. But it would be cool if I could play them faster.

Kieran's post is the one I agree with most here. The culture of thinking it's okay to spend several minutes thinking through actions at the top level has significantly hurt my own online experience, especially since having a kid. It gets harder to justify playing by the day.

For the record, if I had my choice of timer, no joke, i'd probably set it to 1 minute total down time pet turn for each player. I agree very much with the sentiment, "if someone makes a suboptimal play, so be it."
