I think heron is right - giving your opponent a choice is strictly worse than not giving them that choice.

I recommend playing online to see which cards you actually like playing with the most. Unfortunately for this purpose though, Possession is such a universally disliked card that it has been disabled from automatched games on (although it is still possible to manually set up games that have it).

Wow I didn't know that! Any chance Rebuild will get the same?

3P has a lot of potential for political playing, but the bigger issue in this example is that Sauna/Avanto is cancer.

I always wondered why split piles aren't 6/6. Port can be 12. Rats can be 20.

I think in 2p, Catapult in particular would suffer from being 6/6.

Old Coppers get better over time because you can tell what they are from the back.

Sorry for playing Ferry/Rebuild. At least it was over quickly.

Is Cathedral worth buying on a board with no extra gains? Because buying it turn 1 means you'll always have a 10-or-fewer-card deck.

Depends on the kingdom, but keep in mind that if there are junkers (extra gains, for your opponent!) not buying Cathedral may result in you having a large deck swamped with junk (and even with Cathedral you may end up at more than 10 cards).

I think "no extra gains" implies that no junking will happen.

Maybe getting Cathedral on say turn 6 and maintaining a 15-card deck would work?

I wonder if buying a junker, prompting your opponent to buy Cathedral, and then never using your junker will be a thing.

Generally yes.

Cathedral, a Short Story By Robz888
Speaking as someone who earlier today Princed a Trading Post with... mixed results, I'm so going to buy Cathedral at the first available opportunity!

Just make sure you have some source of extra buys/gains available.

The biggest surprise for me is Cathedral.

I'm so pleased. Been waiting so long for that name to show up and was heartbroken when the only card to beat chapel in trashing-crazyness was named Donate. Now everything is good with the world again.

Is Cathedral that strong? Maybe I'm wrong but it seems super situational to me. Wouldn't you go for literally any other trashing ahead of committing to a 4-card hand for the rest of the game?

And Diadem in a similar way.

I made sure to avoid spoilers, but I'll capitulate.

I feel like saying "Then they changed it up and showed what happened to people after they were rescued" is a pretty big spoiler. I think one of the biggest surprises in the series is the revelation that what appears to be a flashback is actually a flashforward. There is plenty of room in the early seasons to speculate that they are actually dead, or that it's not possible to leave the island etc.

I also think it's a shame to tell someone who just started the series that the ending is disappointing. Others might disagree with me.

(For the record, I was really enjoying the flashsideways in S6 and excited for where they were going, and then the fact that they were just dead was a bit disappointing to me. But I would definitely still recommend the series as a whole.)

So I've started watching Lost. It's pretty addicting.

Lost had some pretty solid storytelling. I think what made it stand out was that each character had fleshed-out stories prior to the crash. Then they changed it up and showed what happened to people after they were rescued. Kind of. That gets kind of weird.

I'm a little disappointed to learn that they didn't plan out the series. On the one hand, it's really cool that they were able to tell these stories while flying by the seats of their pants, but it also meant that they didn't plan for a lot of things, and it shows in some spots.

I'm also one of the few people who was not bothered by the ending. But sadly now I cannot remember the details of the finale, so I am no longer in a state to defend it (or at least offer up reasonable explanations). I'd have to rewatch it and see if I can remember everything that season.

Tentative /in

It seems strange that Forum, a double Fugitive, is balanced at $5 while Fugitive would be a $4.5 but again, price/power comparisons are anything but straightforward in Dominion.

One could place Fugitive at $5 and give it a small bonus, like for instance a +Buy as an on-buy effect.

It could cost 9 debt (or $5 + 4d etc) and you gain another copy when you buy one.

I ran a couple of games of the Less Pressure setup the other day. It worked well. I think the lack of night kill is a good thing for smaller groups - it does not feel good to be night killed and it's not necessary to speed the game up. Another big advantage is that apart from someone saying "Everyone close your eyes, Mafia open your eyes" etc, a moderator is not necessary so the person running it can play as well and help get the game going that way.

The way we did voting worked pretty well. It was pretty casual - anyone could say "I vote for X" and put their hand up. If a majority put their hands up that person would have a chance to give a defense. If a majority vote occurred again they were lynched, otherwise the Day continued.

I believe he gets this kind of request all the time, with the answer being an overwhelming "I don't do fan cards." The only exceptions would be the very small number of official cards which have been designed by playtesters.

Rules Questions / Re: "no other rule is a Dominion rule"
« on: July 12, 2018, 05:28:47 pm »
To answer this question I think you need to define precisely what constitutes the "game state":

-player order
-location of each card
-how many actions/tokens/etc each player has
-what information is available to each player
-which player gets to make which decisions

The rules of Dominion define how you can affect the game state. Any change to the game state that is not permitted by the rules is forbidden. The rules make no comment on anything outside the game state, such as are you allowed to breathe or are you allowed to murder other players.

I might start playing Dominion Online again just for this.
