Okay, how about you go buy a house from someone, pay off your mortgage ... and then the seller announces that you have to pay rent.

That exists already (at least in USA), it's called property taxes.  You're always paying rent.

Literally screw Silver.

That would be rather hard to do, especially without defacing the cards.

Is Salvager still down, or has it moved to a new location?

I want a card that has 3 types

Like an Action-Attack-Knight?

How about Action-Attack-Knight-Victory?

On another note, I think I prefer opening Silver/Potion or maybe Silver/Ironworks here to Storeroom. It's just so important to get that Apprentice early.

Yeah, I see that, except that storeroom is so great for whipping the potion around quickly and getting multiple SPs...Maybe a "pure" Apprentice/Fortress thing without scrying pool is better than going for a bunch of pools in the first place? I could see that.  And in the OP I was going to mention that Dukes never were even needed.  I was about halfway through that last turn before I realized I could just pile out right there.

This was perhaps the first randomly-generated kingdom I've seen where I was like "whoa, Transmute is actually a thing here!"

The idea is to get a bunch of Scrying Pools, then thin down and Transmute Fortress into Duchy and ultimately discard cards with Storeroom for cash to get Dukes.  Transmute has the added benefit of being drawable with SP, converting coppers into more Transmutes (read: also can be drawn with SP), and being a +Buy potion target when the SP's are gone.  Thoughts?

It's good if an engine is otherwise possible but no other trashing. Best with piles you want a large number of (Hamlet, Menagerie, FishVill, Advisor, many others)

I hate to be that guy, but in my opinion, with very few exceptions, the card art in Dominion is really, really bad.

The artwork in Adventures is much much better. And for what it's worth I think the best art in all of pre-Adventures Dominion is Wharf.

Favorite combo with this card is Ghost Ship.

That's where YMYOSL comes from.

The more opponent governors played for draw prior to ghost ship, the more true that is.

My guess is that on most random boards this will be the most useful token event. There are definitely boards in which the +1 card or +1 buy may be more valuable, but I feel this is much less common than the amazing utility of making a terminal action non-terminal.

Any discard attack would definitely make me want to have Guide around. My gut says 2 guides is often a good idea, to have one on the tavern mat and one available to play (just like you'd want for Durations).  Depending on how junked up the deck is, it may be better to have multiple guides on the mat at any one time to minimize the chances of a complete dud.

Buying one province into massive engine into threatening a pile-out is much scarier than stalling after a quick four provinces.

Quoted since this statement perfectly and succinctly summarizes how my viewpoint has changed having played Dominion since base-only in 2008.

After getting some really terrible early game luck that resulted in no SP plays until turn 9 and my opponent having double Counterfeit by turn 3, I thought I was completely toast and nearly resigned.  However, after a ton of opponent Counterfeit plays, I realized that his economy was quite vulnerable and multi-SP was just the ticket for maximizing the chances of having Treasure on top, so I went for a desperation Pirate Ship.  Succeeded in trashing all his treasure and adding 10 coins of payload per turn.  I simply couldn't believe I was able to win this game.

EDIT: Prettified log

As an aside, I think the situation with PMS is a good example of why it's not a good idea to try to factor in people's personal lives into debates. It can be seen as insulting the same way suggesting someone could be PMSing can be insulting.

On the other hand, never taking the existence of PMS into account is also a good way to get really steamed over strange behavior/responses that seem to make no sense.  Especially in marriage or other close relationships with women, being aware of that possibility and showing extra grace is quite non-misogynistic.  See also PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), which is really freaking bad PMS.  The issue is using the term "PMSing" as an insult, which it usually is intended to be.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: German translation

If you're translating a modern western source text into another western language, such cultural differences aren't there, and you should only focus on delivering the most accurate and the most readable translation. Otherwise you're doing an awful job at translating the text.

I agree with you.  There appear to be two issues at hand here: 1st is whether using a gender-specific pronoun makes the translation more or less correct, and 2nd is whether the cultural expectation of using a male pronoun as gender-inclusive is valid in the first place.

The English language really needs more gender-neutral pronouns.

I look at it like this:  Why is it considered more OK for a woman to dress up in a more traditionally masculine fashion than for a man to dress in a more traditionally feminine fashion?  My experience has been that if women dress something closer to what a man would wear, that is frowned on a whole lot less than a man who goes out in drag!  SHOULD it be that way?  I don't know, but culturally it's just different.  I guess it's similar with pronouns...there's just something different about using a feminine specific pronoun that makes it decidedly feminine as opposed to neutral, whether it should be that way or not.

Perhaps not a Traveller, but a "Level Up" kind of card similar to how I think Thunderstone works...the first X cards of a pile (probably 5) would be a weaker version, and the bottom X are a more powerful version.  This would be different from things like Forager and City that require cooperation to "build" since gaining cards from only that one pile matters.

We'd have Isotropic in text mode.

Graverobber + Catacombs

With any $4 or less village support, Graverob Catacombs into province and village, then use another Graverobber to topdeck catacombs.

Intrigue also has Shanty Town as a village.  Granted, it is a poor one.)

I don't think ST is a poor village at all.  Especially as an opener, it's usually a Lab for 3 coins.  And in the greening phase, it still often helps by lubing draw.  Throw in some non-terminals and it's a great card.  It just works poorly with non-drawing terminals but even then you probably want some ST's in order to increase payload.

Doesn't look as though the Iso leaderboard is updating.

Copper and scout are close but I think scout might be slightly better?

In the case of playing scout and drawing no victory cards, it is actually worse than copper.

Playing scout and drawing one victory card, it is marginal (cycled one dead card but effectively did nothing) so I'd still say worse than copper given that you took the effort to add it to your deck.

Playing scout and drawing 2+ victory cards, it is probably better than copper, but not by much.

This is all assuming that you're unable to do anything with the top-deck inspection, but it's quite unusual to be able to get enough value out of that to push the balance in Scout's favor.

So most of the time Scout is worse than copper.

I usually play against my mom, who buys a Province whenever she hits $8. This forces me to green earlier, thus possibly making Scout better in my eyes.

If there's a source of +Buy on the board, you should be letting her get the first 5-6 Provinces while continuing to build your engine, then win by snagging all the remaining green in a couple of turns, after she has inevitably stalled.
Okay, I let her get 6 Provinces.
Now I need 2 Provinces, 8 Duchies and 4 Estates (seeing as she didn't trash her estates). I can totally produce $64 coins and 14 buys in 'a couple of turns.'

The real issue is that if you are "letting" her get that far ahead and NOT building toward a megaturn engine that is capable of producing vast amounts of VP like that in 1-2 turns, then you are playing suboptimally.  Scout does not really help in such situations.  And if you happen to be acquiring Scout earlier in the game as opposed to something like Silver (i.e. "Silver test") could be a reason why you get into that predicament in the first place.
