Festival, Donate, Tomb. Buy and trash the entire coppers pile, have a deck with no green, and still win on vp tokens.

Add Beggars to increase the number of Coppers per hand.

In order to match rulebook rulings (e.g., they only get to see one card), I think Militia has to be "pick the order, then discard them all at once." So that's my tentative ruling.

But if you are discarding 2 Reaction cards do you only get to use the one you leave on top, as you have lost track of the Reaction that doesn't get shown?

Other than the updated shuffle rule, "+2 cards" is identical to "+1 card, +1 card".

I thought that was only true for Draw-to-X? If it's true in general, though, I agree that it makes sense for "Discard down to 3" to be equivalent to "Discard [(your hand size)-3] cards".
However, either way, I'm with Jeebus on the "should it be changed for the purpose a few obscure interactions" issue.

Unless it changed with the new shuffle rule; it was definitely true originally. It mattered for Stash. With the new shuffle rule it is technically possible that you could draw 2 cards at the same time, but I don't know if it's written in the rules anywhere in second edition.

What is the "new shuffle rule" that you reference?

The game comes to a stand still when you play Possum.

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!

My wife will be happy to know I was right.

Thanks for the quick response. Thanks for a great game.

Rules Questions / Can you Banquet a Ghost?
« on: October 01, 2018, 06:57:02 pm »
Banquet: Gain 2 Coppers and a non-Victory card costing up to 5.

I could not find anything in my searches on this site. I could not find anything in Empires or Nocturne rule books. Banquet does not specify a card from the Supply.

If the answer is in DSF somewhere please let me know where I missed it.

Counterfeit Spoils returning to the pile instead of going into the trash.

I disagree. Counterfeit trashes a cards from your hand. Spoils says "When you play this, return it to the Spoils pile." Spoils never gets played, so it is trashed.

there's not any idea in this post that's not already in the title of this post.

Dungeon, Villa, Swashbuckler. Any other discard/2 actions/no +cards card combo will also work.

We've never had any wood whatsoever in Dominion so far, right?

Only when I get to play IRL.

Fortunately, this announcement brings clarity to the Coffers renaming: the tokens that save coins had to be renamed to Coffers so that the ones that save actions could be called Coin Tokens.

So what will action tokens be called?  If we follow the pattern so far, they’ll be called Acffers.

A DOH! moment. I forgot it wasn't an attack. This is the result of playing online where everything is taken care of for you, and you forget what is on the cards.

I just played game #15485185. Turn 13 Champion on my mat, but I must pass a card for Masquerade.

I had to pass 2 cards before game end.

Multiple bad draws:

Getting a 5/2 split when there are no $5 and $2 cards. Opponent gets a 3/4.

Getting a 5 Copper draw on a 5/2 split with no $2 card, buying a $5 trasher, then getting $2 on your next 3 turns.

These both happened to me in the last week IRL.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Fix the worst cards

I'm coming in late with an opinion but, I think if you want to change these cards, then why not just make new cards? Looking over the list, I can see cards that are quite useful in what this game is supposed to be, i.e., a challenge. If every game only had cards that were higher powered, so that every game is a race to an engine, it would be quite boring.

Events and Landmarks are available to add improvements to these cards.

Some of these cards can be very good either at the beginning (mandarin) or end (transmute) of a game.

The game got rid of/replaced some "bad" cards. You are always going to have a lowest group of cards.

As a side thought, I'm going to try some games using only these cards. I don't mind a challenging slog.

Fix Lurker. I hate cards that you are forced to buy because the other player did.

EDIT: Also, there is the issue of playing, say, a Procession on a Village, where the Village is trashed within the tree. But yeah. We had been doing a semi-tree-like layout, and we found it confused us, because we have limited space on our table to make those rows, even without the "trashed card" problem.
Turn your tree layout on it's side and play it left to right. You'll be able to play more cards that way.

It's kinda sad that it doesn't work with cost reduction (other that Bridge Troll and Ferry).

Prince and Ghost can do it but it’s hard to set up.

Prince won't work with a Duration card.

We sometimes play with a "one pile out" condition where Province (and Colony, if in play) cannot be bought until one kingdom pile is empty. This can lengthen the game in most cases.

Ball/Treasure Map/Night Watchman

On a 5/2 open Ball gets 2 TM's; pick up NW on 3rd turn discarding anything that's not a TM; play 2 TM's on 4th turn, assuming luck-o'-the-draw is in your favor. It was for me.

I feel like, in this context, it was likely "go fuck yourself". But "good for you" is also a possibility, and much less depressing.

I would appreciate a good "gfy-ing" after blowing someone out, or blowing me out. I would lol.

It's better than the loser (or winner) just disappearing from the table, without 1 character of text. Might as well play a bot.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Nocturne: Yay or nay?
« on: January 03, 2018, 11:15:46 am »
I say Yay!

I've gotten every expansion as they come out, and each one improved the playability of the game, for me/us. We have always seen Dominion and all of it's expansions as a single game, so I don't have a favorite expansion.

Nocturne adds a lot of new twists and turns. It adds complexity.
We're not 'picky' about supposed good/bad cards, so everything that's been added in each expansion has made the game more enjoyable for us. After about 15 games I have nothing more to say other than that Nocturne is another great addition to an already great game.

Thanks, DVX.

I have all the expansions/2nd editions and include all the banned cards. I don't have the problems/issues with any of the cards that others have.

We draw random and deal with what we get. Any card, good or bad, can be useless/useful in any given set. Every kingdom we draw is fun to play. Some kingdoms are just tougher to figure out, which is what it's about, right?

No veto. No exclusions. No whining about likes and dislikes.

Procession a Legionary into a Hireling and buy a Provence, assisted by Shanty Town, Lighthouse

Online Dominion game # 9865631

These were in the game and I can't remember the others:
Scrying Pool
Shanty Town
Hunting Grounds

With trashers to get rid of the curses and an extra buy Ritual is great for trashing Colonies, Provinces, and late game Platinums for VP tokens. In particular, removing green cards from your deck without losing VP.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: How do YOU pick interesting kingdoms?
« on: October 12, 2017, 11:08:31 pm »
I too prefer full random. We also randomly select 2 Events and 1 Landmark for every game. We have a lot of very good, competitive games. We play 4 or more, usually more, games per week.

Sometimes we pull one card from each set until we get 10. We call the 2nd edition cards and Promos combined a separate set for 11 total sets, as we have them all.
