I was trying to reproduce code someone else wrote, and it called some object.log() function at one point, behind an if statement for if "log" is enabled.  You know, some debug logging.  I was just trying to reproduce a basic result that the original code could do, but I had a problem for ages and couldn't figure it out.  I finally realized that the log() function was actually computing a logarithm, and not debug logging...

I always bid a non-integer, non-fraction number.  People think I'm irrational when I do it.

I bid a non-real number.  People say that's way too complex for them.

We have further agreed that on Duration cards that give us +X Cards, we cross that number of cards across our decks on Clean-Up. That way, even if, say, another player plays a Bandit before our next turn, and we reveal the top two cards of our deck, we do so, but then cross the next two down so as to be sure to remember to draw them at the start of the turn. This way, we don't forget to draw those cards, even if the Wharf is trashed. (Like, say, because we played a Procession on a Wharf.)

Another suggestion having to do with duration cards is to turn them sideways when you play them and then turn them normal once you finish their effects.  This way you will both remember that you have special effects, and you won't accidentally discard your durations as easily (an extremely common mistake).

or completeness, the expansions complicate this a little:
  • Action phase:
    • Start-of-turn effects (e.g. those caused by having played a Duration last turn)
    • While you still have actions, play as many Action cards as you like, one by one
  • Buy phase:
    • Start-of-buy-phase effects
    • Play as many Treasures and coin tokens as you like, one by one
    • As many times as you like:
      • Pay off debt, or
      • (providing you still have buys and are not in debt) buy a card from the Supply, or an Event
    • End-of-buy-phase effects
  • Night phase: play as many Night cards as you like, one by one
  • Clean-up phase:
    • Start-of-cleanup-phase effects
    • Discard the cards you have in play - except Durations that are still in force - and the cards remaining in your hand (in any order)
    • Draw a new hand of 5 cards
    • End-of-turn effects
  • Check to see if the game has ended
  • After-your-turn effects

Do start of your turn effects happen in your Action phase?  I've always assumed they happen before your Action phase.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Workshop with an interaction

It might need the Attack type, since you can gain a good/decent $2 and force everyone else to take a Copper.

This would cause all sorts of craziness with Moat.  "If I reveal my Moat, he'll take a $6, but if I don't, he'll take a $2 and I'll take a Copper."  Maybe that's wanted, but it is definitely weird.  And, it actually makes you not want to play Lighthouse.

Does anyone think it's odd that our mouths are used for so many functions? If you were going to design a person would you have separate facilities for eating, breathing, speaking, etc. Also I feel like we could end up just dropping verbal speech.

You want to design several organs?  We would probably poop out of our mouths if it weren't for the fact that it's not sanitary.

What have we done...

Thanks for posting this. Otherwise I'd have missed out on a lot of funny posts.

Totally unrelated what is the common English term for the person doing a lecture or tutorial at a university that works in both cases? That person isn't always a professor. Lecturer?

Instructor

"Tutor" would be okay in a lot of settings, and I think it has more academic connotations than "instructor". It's true that in the UK, "professor" is usually reserved for tenured professorships, whereas in the US it tends to mean almost anyone with an academic teaching post. It also depends on what you understand by the word tutorial :-)

I've only ever heard tutor used for one-on-one teaching.

2) Always use last-known-info as suggested by ChipperMDW. (Although I don't like the idea of reverting BoM to choose-before-play, because that created a lot problems compared to how cleanly it works now.) The problem is that it changes the Procession+BoM-as-Fortress explanation in the original Dark Ages rulebook, and probably other "known" interactions, which could be unexpected for many players online whenever it would change there.

What about (as someone suggested earlier) keeping it as the actual card for as long as possible, and only reverting to the originally-played card when it's impossible to track it?  This keeps all current interactions as-is, and the only time that this would pop up is when people try to engineer it.

The behavior is correct, and you are correct about the other problem.

Wait, which behavior is correct?  You can't actually play the other person's Inherited card, right?

No, I think you do.  It's the only way to make it consistent with TR+BoM+Feast.  The one problem that isn't resolved is the tracking issues.

I had a dream where someone made this big, complicated graph deciding whether or not something should be posted in Random Stuff or if it should go in a new thread.  It kind of reminded me of those phase diagrams posted a while back, and it included criteria such as how interesting it is, how much discussion you are expecting to get from it, and how exciting/exhilarating the topic is.

No.  The definition of overpay is to pay more for it than its price.  2 is not greater than 2, so you don't overpay.

Someone who opens Curse/Curse is probably a skilled player doing so as a joke.
There's certainly something unusual going on! Maybe they're deliberately handicapping themself in a game with a much weaker player?

I'm struggling to think of even an edge case in which a Curse/Curse opening could be the strongest play, though. Um. Defiled Shrine in a six-player game?

I'd be satisfied if there were legitimate cases where it's not the absolute worst opening, assuming the player proceeds to play competently after the opening.

As a mind game to make the opponent think they're worse?  I once underestimated an opponent because they opened with copper and I didn't think about Duke.

test

Back in the old days, on the MineZ minecraft server, they would censor swear words, and "test" was one of them.

My problem with estimating centimeters is that because I'm in the United States, the only time I use centimeters is in science, and in those cases the actual values they quantify don't really matter, and I end up thinking of centimeters as short inches.  However, I've noticed that in my mind I sometimes think of it being about 1.5 centimeters to an inch, not 2.5 centimeters to an inch...

I thought Donald said somewhere that things like Nomad Camp change the rule that says things are gained to your discard.  It's just that it's gained onto your deck rather than your discard, so other effects can change it just like they change normal gains.
