Hoping Lookout survives somehow; it's still one of my favorite Seaside cards.

Definitely excited for this one, it seems like it "solves" a lot of the problems of Kingdom Builder (which I love!), plus the wintery theme is super pretty.

If you're looking for a browser-based randomizer, http://users.resourceinternational.com/~nmx/games/Dominion/ is one of my favorites, and includes up to Nocturne and Dismantle.

I just can't believe nobody spelled Farmers' Market correctly in this entire thread. :'(

To be fair, "Everything is cool and fun" is basically what I felt the first time read Black Market's setup text.  (YMMV :P)

I'm not quite sure how good this card is but I have really enjoyed it in the few games so far!  There's just so much going on with multiple decisions and the interactions with the stuff you trash, but it doesn't have quite the randomness of Boons/Hexes.

You don't actually need the shovel to do the digging game. When you pay the guy 80 rupees your item is switched to the shovel automatically until time runs out or you leave the screen. Assuming you can get into the village of outcasts, digging game is open.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Banning 5 Cards
« on: August 27, 2017, 02:33:41 am »
To answer #1, I think it's a perfectly fine idea.  I don't know if I'd really use it (though I'd be tempted to toss Rebuild and Urchin aside) but there are just so many kingdom cards nowadays that it's not going to sway the game strongly in any direction even if someone's five banned cards are all junkers or trashers or whatever.

I liked the triforce hunting, but boy was it jarring being in the middle of T-Rock and having the game just immediately end.  I wonder if they'd be interested in combining triforce hunting mode with regular clear?  Like, you can only damage Ganon if you have the required number of triforce shards, or something comparable.

I had fun the other day doing a Pegasus bootless seed. Do not recommend. I couldn't get a key in ganons tower off the bonk spot, went all the way upstairs without a small key and got stuck, and realized at the end I forgot to check the right side chests. Oops.

Randomizer is so legit though. I saw wanderingwinder a few times in speed gaming chatrooms on twitch, which was pretty exciting lol.

I get that the "do a thing to get 2 vp from the pile" landmarks are rarely exciting, but man, palace is just about never important. I would put it below the ones that reward you 2 vp for buying actions.

12
Those landmark rankings seem a little bit off to me.  Swap Orchard and Museum and I think you're closer to their value.  I know trashing is good anyway, but Tomb should really be top 5.

Dominate seems to me like it should be higher, but it also costs 14 which really has no comparison of any sort when it comes to price point.  Its impact is still pretty significant on a lot of boards, I think.

Other Games / Re: Oracle of Delphi (and other games)
« on: April 06, 2017, 04:04:21 pm »
This is sort of a delayed response, but I've been playing a lot of Oracle lately and I really dig it.

Stefan Feld games are totally my thing anyway, so this isn't really surprising, but I also like race games a lot and I think there's a lot to like about Feld's take on them.  It still has his usual puzzle-y gameplay, with a million different options, and a heavy emphasis on efficiency and optimization.  The race aspect of it keeps everything driving forward, and also helps the general feeling of competition despite being mostly non-interactive.

I've mostly played it with 2, although the 4-player round I had was excellent, and really tightens up the competition for cubes/monsters/statue spots.  And despite all the randomness in the dice rolls, injury cards, random monster fights, and hidden islands, the game feels like it generally rewards skillful play, and the luck elements will largely balance themselves out over the course the 12 tasks.  I've won nearly every game so far and (not to boast!) I feel like I've deserved it.  The variable board is also really neat and can make the tightness of options feel a lot different depending on the setup.

For whatever reason, it feels like this one has kind of gone largely overlooked, especially among the bigger Feld hits of recent times, and I think it's a shame.  It's one of the most solid games I've gotten to play from 2016 so far.

14
I have pretty limited experience with Empires but I think Farmers' Market and Catapult are both a bit high.  Banquet is about right; I think it's decent enough, but there are very few terrible $3 cards, especially compared to the $4s.

Smugglers and Workshop seem like they should both be closer together, with workshop maybe a few ranks too low and Smugglers a few too high.  Terminal gainers that have their own strengths and weaknesses seem pretty similarly strong to me.

15
I don't think Chapel will be topped by any of these cards, but I do think Peasant ends up ahead of Page in the long run.

Also, I still don't know how to properly rank Save/Alms/Borrow.  They're all just like things you do when they're on the board, but their "importance" relative to actual cards that go in your deck is weird to evaluate.  (I get that every event is this way, but most of them are core parts of a strategy.  These are all super tactical and get used every time they're out, to some extent.)

I will do my best to try and make it. I'd love to come by for another event though; I've had a good time at all your tournaments so far.  8)

Oh hey, it's the thing that I heard about back in January.  Surprised it's going to be around so soon after announcement, but I'll take it!

Oh man, they had this at MAGFest last year.  Really really fun game.

I'm a fan of all lowercase.  It's the internet, not a professional paper.  You can use shorthand, and it's not a big deal.

Also Temple seems pretty good but the whole gathering part of it is weird.

« on: July 18, 2016, 11:28:59 pm »
I said in the preview topic that I thought this card was a lot like Scrying Pool, in that it's really dominant when you can trash down, and still a lot stronger than you'd expect even if you can't.  I haven't played any games since to dissuade me from this opinion.

23
I think Groundskeeper probably looks a little better in Empires-heavy games, but that said, I still think it's really good.  It's a $5 cost that you can't afford to significantly lose the split on in most boards.

Really good stuff!  I love Voyages of Marco Polo, I wish it got a little more buzz here in the States, it was my favorite new game of last year.

I think this is going to have fun interactions with Ruins, though I don't know if it's going to be able to save Cultist games just by itself.

Also Grand Market seems like a cute thing to use this with on the "right side" of the advancement.
