1-3 Minion from the opponent. You know you won't keep the hand anyways, discarding the cards takes you quicker to the reshuffle, quicker to use them.

Dominion FAQ / Re: Dominion Lingo Dictionary
« on: July 16, 2011, 12:45:32 pm »
When I hear "hard counter" I think of anything that just answers "no you dont!" to the attack. Moat/lighthouse, watchtower against cursers and so on. "Soft counter" on the other hand is more like menagrie against militia or wishing wells against ghost ship in my mind.

Hey, I never thought of it that way before! I usually trash the estates as soon as I have the chance!

Someone today informed me that they "normally win" and that I'm a "lucky boy."

I've met him as well. Professor x?

Hey, don't be so harsh on the shanty town! I rather like shanty town, yes it doesn't work well as the core source of actions, but if you have alot of actions (KC with lab? cheap/gain villages?) It really helps your drawing, and also further greases your deck!

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Curse Variants

What about a new type of cards that cannot be trashed?
They have the potential to cause all kinds of rules problems (such as when an Upgrade compels you to trash them).

What about, blue cards:

When these cards are trashed you gain another card from the supply. If the pile is empty you gain a curse.

Their price must be made to reflect it ofc

Is it possible to grab mint with the 5 coppers ? Let's assume any 2 cost card you want is on the table.

I really like playing on isotropic, thanks to Donald for allowing it ! :D

I had a period where I played on BSW, before I found iso. With some time I tired of it, I don't remember all the problems, but the lack of cards bugged me, so did the interface. The main thing I remember from BSW was the neverending clicking of blobs with nobles! gradually my lust for dominion cooled, until I found isotropic and started playing again :)

I'd love a dominon with the art! But I'd prefer iso to a version with too few of the cards.

Just my 2 cents :)

Other Games / Re: What other games are as good as Dominion?

I enjoy powergrid. It has a built-in feature that gives the player with the most cities trouble, but that's pretty much that, it isn't easy to gang up, and it is quite hard to know who's winning anyways.

Dominion Isotropic / Re: Isotropic function: Rematch

There should be a "play another match with random new cards with the same person" button! Would make it easier to play multiples with a guy, chatting :)

Dominion Isotropic / Re: Isotropic
« on: June 21, 2011, 04:52:42 am »
Yes it is legal. Donald X does his official card-testing on it, so he is absolutely fine with it.

What's this now? I don't think there have ever been cards on Isotropic that aren't published yet. This sounds like a mutated version of the fact (from the Isotropic FAQ) that Donald X helpfully provided the set of prototype artwork that he used for the Kingdom cards. (They all seem to be free images anyway, from places like Wikipedia, but it's nice that Donald himself picked them out.)

There is in fact a nonpublic version of isotropic with unpublished cards.

*grabby hands* ;)

Awesome to hear that isotropic is allright :)

Hi

I used to play on BSW before isotropic, and it was pretty annoying really (nobles, just that, nobles combos. Grahhh!) and I love isotropic, even tho it could have ahd a nicer interface ;)

Is it really legal? What does Donald X think about it?

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Make up your own card?

Actually lightHouse > monk!

What about :

Name : Mercury
Type : treasure
Cost $6

When this card is played you choose one:
+2$
+Potion

Even worse, we aren't British ;P.  From brief perusal of the internet, I think degree level is what Americans call undergraduate college education.

Does that match a bachelor at the university? A master?

I think it was a game in the pirate ship thread where someone won with bishops and wonderfully tells how the bishop redeemed his pirates xD

Hi

I'm a 21 year old norwegian, studying math/physics, playing boardgames and RPGs :)

I'm impressed by you chessplayers here! I played a little (in what I think in america translates to junior high /high school) but weren't very good at it, ended up at 900 in rating or smth :) WOW to you guys!

My group totally redeals spreads that look awful sometimes. Don't worry about it.

Here as well. Or someone may go "we played with <card> the last 3 games!" or "I don't really like <card>" and we pick a new one :)

This does boil down to the good old "turn the other cheek" - dilemma.

He does asshattery to me, should I do asshattery to him? If it seems like he is playing with you, you have 1 province and a wrecked deck, he has 5 and an engine, and then starts buying gardens, then by all means tell him to end the game! I also find it offensive when someone leading by a mile desides to use 5min. on his turn to be entire sure he can buy that last estate . Off course actually just leaving is reserved for intenses situations.

I usually avoid playing against people who decline any set.  I always avoid playing against people who set certain cards.  I do not mind it if someone bans a few nasty cards.  On the whole though random all the way.

I'm pretty much the same.

What do you guys think about playing people way below your lvl.? I feel sort of bad when declining people, but lvl. 3s that are obviously underrated, dont they really eat out of my lvl. ?

I don't like alchemist or minion. Alchemist takes forever! Alot of spamming.. Minion as well, in addition to always drawing minion x4 festival or something before enemies minion..

The worst thing I came across was a guy that said I was cheating. He had played his cards as best as possible, and I still had that mout or w.e. so he didn't win. So I was cheating. His finishing comment was:

"I won this one, you know that"

Another guy tried to "tip" me that contrabands should be the last treasure you play..

About the resign thing, I didn't know about the resign button before some days ago. So I stayed when I lost! In some few cases, wheere he had 6 provinces, I had 6 curses and a worse deck, and he still thought for ages about what to do, to be able to not only buy VP but also to give me more curses, and then even bought duchies! Then I simply left.

I don't allways type in the gl hf, and im almost allways the last one to do it, since I'm usually perusing the cards the first seconds. Still, if the opponent start chatting away, or discuss the game, I'm all in :)
