Just noticed that there's two Marx Brothers references and one Lovecraft reference in the names of the recommended kingdoms.   8)
Ruritania is Prisoner of Zenda I think.

Lions, split pile. You gotta buy 5x Lions before you reach the 5x Christians. Play a Lion when you already have a Christian in play, +3 cards, trash any number of cards, +1VP per $1 cost of the cards you trashed.

No one could object to a card like that, right?

Why can’t Dominion be like other games?

Because then it would be a worse game.
I’m going to assume you’re pretending to misunderstand my meaning for the lols ... but just in case you’re not let me be even more plain:

Dominion is a great game. This implementation of Dominion makes players jump through a lot of unnecessary hoops in order to enjoy the game. A lot of other games don’t do that. Dominion’s growth and popularity has been seriously curtailed. It is a real shame.

Now, how about those lols?

So, I process my credit card transaction for 1.01 euro (0.66 + 0.35 transaction fee). Next minute ... message from fraud investigation unit at  my financial institution looking into the suspicious transaction on my credit card.

*sigh*

Why can’t Dominion be like other games?

Is anyone else having trouble purchasing Nocturne? I can't find an option to buy it in the store. The only options I seem to get are buying the Gold and Silver subscriptions even though my Gold subscription is current to 4-Jan-18 ... I'm sure I must be doing something wrong but I can work out what. Frustrating.

If you already have Gold subscription, the upgrade to Gold with Nocturne is cheap.
You can change the end of subscription (the box after the "until") or select an end date with the icon right from the afore mentioned box.
Thanks SkyHard.

Seems a very weird and counter intuitive way for the process to work.

First select the gold subscription (the product I already have)
The end date for the subscription automatically chooses a date 12 months from today and makes no mention of Nocturne being included in the new purchase
Try to change the product you are trying to purchase to something that mentions Noctui, you can’t, only “Gold” and “Sliver”
Change date of subscription you want to purchase to the date your current subscription is currently set to end
System should automatically calculate correct price, presumably something in the range of $1.50 if what a few people are saying is correct
Process credit card transactions for $1.50
Play

I’ll give it a try tonight. Seem a very odd way to arrange things and I failed to work it out by myself on two seperate evenings but then who am I to complain.

*yawn* I've just been having a nice long nap ... hope I haven't missed anything important ...

... ooooh! A new expansion!

Here's my guess:
- there is a single mat that on one side says "day" and the other side "night"
- a number of kingdom cards in the new set flip the day/night mat when they are played
- these kingdom cards have two sets of effects. The text above the line is what happens if the cards are played during the day time. Below the line is the cards effect at night.
- cards that have weak day time effects and strong night effects will come to be known as "werewolves" (unless there is actually a werewolf card)
- cards that have strong day time effects will be known as "chihuahuas"

Oh. Just noticed in the expanded text the night cards are played after the buy phase. I guess that scuppers my idea.

I'm still not finding much chance to play but there is one thing I've noticed where SiT is a big improvement over MF: battery drain. I guess this is similar to the overheating issue but I was blown away by how quickly MF Dominion would drain the battery of my laptop or iPad when I played. And the crazy thing was this after they had supposedly rebuilt the back end.

Well the back end would have next to nothing to do with how fast it drained your battery. It's all about the client.
Oh. OK. I guess the what I was trying to say was they spent a year apparently redesigning it without fixing the main things that were wrong with it.

Sometimes I feel like the only nurse in the middle of a forum full of computer programmers.

Hi all. I've been AWL for a while due to work / family commitments. My best mate who is the main person I play Dominion online with had a child recently so he hasn't had much time to play. The work commitments have been my own.  :-\

So question: how overall is everyone feeling about the new version?

I was pretty excited for the new version before it came out. I really couldn't stand the Goko / MF version of Dominion. MF eventually became playable but five years (?) after it was first released it still had a bunch of the problems it had on day one and I was never going to learn to love it.

My first experience of the shuffle IT version was that while it fixed a few outstanding problems with the MF version it was pretty clunky. As I don't really have time to play at the moment I was hoping people could give me a idea of how things have been going in the six weeks since release. Is the shuffle IT version improving? Are we still hopeful that it will go on to become the version of Dominion that Dominion deserves?

I'm located in Australia. I've made purchases with the card on a number of international sites with it (such Book Depository UK, Amazon US, and ABE Books) including at lease one since I tried to pay for Empires.

More worrying: the payment provider you have chosen doesn't accept the credit/bank card I have used for 99% of my online purchases over the past several years. This is a visa debit/credit card backed by a major US bank, so I'm a little worried if you have a payment managing software that doesn't accept it.

Yes - I've run into the same problem with the credit card - I tried to buy the Empires expansion and it wouldn't accept my card despite me never having a problem with any other retailer.   :o

Thanks for the info.

It feels weird playing with out one. I never knew how vain I was till now.

OMG I really hate that song. I usually like cognitive dissonance but that particular example of it really grates on my nerves.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Subscription pricing & structure
« on: December 28, 2016, 06:05:11 am »
If you "owned" any expansions on Making Fun, you will get a subscription to those expansions for free in 2017.

I'm glad to hear that our purchases will be honored for 2017... But does this imply that this won't be the case past 2017?
That's more or less correct.

That's more or less completely terrible.

Well, of course you are entitled to your opinion. If you had suffered through the current botched implementation from the start you might have a different view of things (I'm assuming that you are a relative new comer).

I for one am very happy to see the end of the misbegotten abomination that started as Goko Dominion and morphed into Making Fun Dominion. Although after years of development it had finally reached "playable" it never got anywhere near being a pleasure to play. I'm looking forward to the new version and if it is as good as I hope/expect I won't mind paying for it at all.

PS. The rights and wrongs of having to pay for a new implementation of Dominion if you want to keep playing Dominion Online after the year have been rehashed in several other threads - not saying you can't raise it again - just explaining why it may not generate much discussion.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: What feature will you miss the least?
« on: December 08, 2016, 05:51:52 am »
I actually like the music.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, when did you go deaf?

I mean, I turned it off after hearing it like 100 times, but it still brings back good memories of learning to play dominion. It also reminds me of the music from a game I played as a kid, Insaniquarium.
To me it brings back good memories of those people you sometimes meet who are always talking about their Celtic heritage even though no one from their family has been near the UK in about four generations ... and they somehow manage to turn every conversation back to the topic of how wonderful Riverdance is. *shudder*

Goko Dominion Online / What feature will you miss the least?

Not long now before this dog of an implementation finally bites the dust. So, which feature will you miss the least? I was going to say the execrable music but then I remembered that you could just switch it off ... so the creepy everybody-has-to-look-the-same avatars are getting my vote. It is going to take me take me way too long to forget them.

I can test if required. 2015 iMac, 2011 MacBook Pro, iPad Air and or iPhone 6. I'm in Australia though so I probably won't be on line at peak load times ...

Having a draw available is also a nice tool if you have to leave unexpectedly and your opponent is a nice guy. Covering "starve to death" scenarios is merely a nice side effect.

It's not really necessary for even that, IMO.  If you have to leave unexpectedly, the correct thing to do is explain this in the chat and resign.  I'd be offended if someone said "I have to go, let's call this a draw."
Dependent on the situation.

This is an interesting one. I agree that if I unexpectedly have to leave a game early (dealing with a baby that has just woken up used to be a pretty common experience for me) then good form dictates I should resign. But if there other player had to end the game early and they were winning I would be happy to accept a mutually agreed draw if I thought I still had some small chance in the game  (or if I thought I had no chance I'd just resign myself).

The ultimate end point should be that each players win/loss record and ranking accurately reflects their actual playing ability.

Guys, draws happen so close to never in Dominion. It's not something worthy of being put in as a feature. It would be an okay feature, but it's just so unbelievably rare that it's not worth any of this.

I've had one draw happen before, in a very very specific circumstance, and although it was tough to resolve due to my opponent being Japanese, in most situations I think the players can just work it out without the need for an official feature.

Stalemate happen incredibly rarely in Dominion (thanks to some very canny game design and a lot of painstaking play testing) so you would be right there is no point having a mutually agreed draw as an option if it was only for stalemates.

I play Dominion in a very competitive way but usually only against one other opponent - not against all comers like most competitive Dominion players (this might be because we are in Australia so when we started playing there weren't many other good players online at the times we were playing - or it could be I get particular joy from beating someone I know). At any rate my point is that there are other reasons players might want to agree to a draw in addition to stalemate. Sometimes my friend and I resign a game before it starts because it contain a particular card (I'm one of those people with a bit of a bee in my bonnet about Rebuild) or we might agree not to play a kingdom if it looks like a very clear cut mirror. The second edition of Dominion is IMO going to reduce the number of clear cut mirror kingdoms (less weak cards = less kingdoms where there is a single stronge card or combo that must be bought) and if there is a way to veto certain cards then I guess my desire for a mutual draw feature won't be so strong.
