New to the league.

ShuffleIt: dawnofnight
timezone: America/New_York

* Seems to have only ever played 3 games tracked by Isotropish. Recently started playing again with the ShuffleIt implementation but I used to play a lot on isotropic.

Game 3 can be viewed on YouTube from MichealJb's perspective:

@RisingJaguar, I think if you disable the status message, that means that you cannot see the status message under the person's name in the lobby. When you start a game, it will be obvious that the person is using it and then you can disable it.

My own opinion:

I use the point-counter most of the time, but I sometimes play on other browsers or another computer without it. It is only cheating if there was an intention at securing an advantage that was unknown or not agreed upon by the other player. I have never had this intention. Not allowing it to be disabled seems in my mind to be on the cheating side of the fence, but calling people cheaters is a big accusation. Online dominion ITSELF, is a variant of Dominion. Personally, I also try to play Dominion IRL as much as I can.

I signed up without looking at the time and I actually cannot make it tomorrow. Can you remove me from the list for tomorrow? Thanks.

nightdance wins over Smithe 3-0

Game 1: forgot to grab game log

Game 2:http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/19/game-20120619-073327-785963d5.html
Colony + Platinum Game
Grand Markets, Throne Rooms, Envoy, Shanty Town
Smithe took an early lead in money (Platinums) with 2 hits of throne room+envoy. He eventually goes too money heavy, greens too late, and loses to my golds, grand markets, and provinces. He could have easily won this one if he went for more provinces instead of platinums and more colonies instead of two other cards.
At the end:
me: 4 Grand Markets, 2 Throne Rooms, 1 Envoy, 1 Shanty Town, 10 Coppers, 1 Silver, 5 Golds, 4 Estates, 5 Provinces, 1 Colony
him: 3 Grand Markets, 2 Envoys, 1 Throne Room, 7 Coppers, 1 Silver, 3 Golds, 6 Platinums, 3 Estates, 3 Provinces, 1 Colony

Game 3:http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/19/game-20120619-074123-ed047424.html
At the end:
me: 2 Menageries, 1 Feast, 1 Haggler, 1 Ironworks, 7 Coppers, 3 Silvers, 5 Golds, 4 Estates, 5 Duchies, 5 Provinces
him: 2 Mints, 1 Library, 1 Smithy, 2 Coppers, 2 Silvers, 6 Golds, 3 Estates, 3 Duchies, 3 Provinces

Menagerie was good for me. Library was good for him. Just played big money better and greened earlier for the win. Ironworks into Feast into Duchy gave me the Duchy lead.

Basically Big Money games, and Smithe's mistake was greening too late.

There is nothing wrong with harems from history. Centuries of European misconception really have harmed the image...

High School Math Teacher = awesomeness. Are you ever tempted to play Dominion with the kids and teach them stats using it? ;)

nice! I wonder how many Dominion players play mtg and/or poker. All seem to be in the same genre of interests.

Yes I see now that they are all too strong.

Maybe with a limit of two cards to hide away, and not automatically returning them to your deck at the end of the game.
Retains the Haven ability with add-ons and a penalty. You cannot simply "island" away victory cards to thin out your deck but you can use it to "trash" one card at a time.

Super Haven
Cost $5
+1 Card
+1 Action

Set aside up to two cards from your hand face down onto the super haven mat. At the start of your next turn, choose one card from the super haven mat and put it into your hand. Cards on the super haven mat are not returned to your deck at the end of the game.

Action - Duration

Comments?

I admit I kind of like the idea of hiding a growing treasure trove of cards to use in the future... I think I addressed most of the concerns? The idea was to be able to use it to "get rid" of cards but as pointed out, it was too much stronger than island. Is it still too strong you think? Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Or alternatively, this is close to what it was in the dream, like a cross of Haven and Native Village:

Super Haven
Cost $5
+1 Card
+1 Action
Set aside any number of cards from your hand face down onto the super haven mat. At the start of your next turn, choose one card from the super haven mat and put it into your hand.

Action - Duration

yup, thanks, supposed to be a cross of tactician and haven. How about...

Super Haven
Cost $6
+1 Card
+1 Action
Set aside any number of cards from your hand face down. At the start of your next turn, put them into your hand.

Action - Duration

Had a dream about a card called Super Haven, adjusted its abilities quite a bit and here it is:

Super Haven
Cost $5
+$1
+1 Card
+1 Action
Set aside any number of cards from your hand face down. At the start of your next turn, put it into your hand.

Action - Duration

poor lemonade, but what an epic ending! Looks like a lot of skill from both players.

Dougz, save us! Ahh it burns us. My precious...

Just played a game where the board was:
Colony, Fairgrounds, Fishing Village, Goons, Haven, Jester, Masquerade, Native Village, Platinum, Secret Chamber, Treasure Map, and Young Witch ( Shanty Town♦ )

Opponent opens 5/2 and purchases Jester. You have 3 coins in hand. What would you do? What do you think is the best strategy?

I purchased cards partly in reaction to my opponent but ended up winning greatly aided by a big Native Village-Goons turn, and using Shanty Town as an alternative Menagerie but I feel we both made mistakes. There are so many choices in an engine game.

The additional benefit is that it scales very well with more people and theoretically, the more people the better as you have more choices of who to face to minimize waiting time. Also, it does not matter how many players want to compete. You still get a clean top 8-player tournament at the end. You can break ties for the top 8 with tie-breaker matches, or min losses, or first reporter, etc...

USA vs Europe! Funny how you originally set the max as 256.

To minimize waiting time, you could try a Swiss-type system to determine top x players, say top 8 like in mtg, so people just need to play any y other participants z number of times. You just ask around in the waiting room for anyone interested to play you when both are free. At end of the day, after everything is over and reported, score each person based on number of wins, ties, and losses, say 2 or 3 points for win, 1 for tie, 0 for loss. Just throwing numbers but y could be 4 and z be 3 with x 8. So play 4 other players 3 times each = 12 games for everyone. We can say this will take maybe 3 hours with minimum waiting time in-between. Then top 8 players face off at later date. Splitting it up this way may eliminate need to split up over time zones. Cool feature will be a live score count tracker for everyone. So yea, main goal of this would be to minimize waiting time.

Then follow with a regular tournament for top x players at a later date when only they need to participate. This will also somewhat equalize the time as you do not need to play more games due to ties/trading wins, etc. and you still get to play a lot of games even if you keep losing.

Just my thoughts. Thinking of chess and mtg. =)

Hahaha, Dominion LAN party, I wonder if that has been done before. I don't think its terrible but don't let Rio Grande Games know. So the real cards are only for casual play I see.  I know some people on the starcraft group at Columbia end up playing mtgo a lot at their lan parties after losing too much.
