I loved it! Please make another! It was definitely higher than beginner level, but I thought it was great. Thanks for putting this together.

Hinterlands is my favorite. Top 2 favorite cards from that set are IGG and Tunnel, although I adore every card in it.

Dominion Articles / Re: Yes/No: Discussion on Dark Ages combos...?
« on: August 30, 2012, 03:55:40 pm »
I played a few games today and think there may be opportunity for Cultist to combo well with Urchin or Death Cart late in the game. The Mercenary or Death Cart trashing Cultists after all the ruins are out seems like it would be super strong.

Anybody tried this out in a legit game? (we were mostly just trying out all the new cards)

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Ruins Setup
« on: August 29, 2012, 04:04:31 pm »
Its number 1, there is only one slot for ruins in the dark ages box, and your ruins won't fit if you sleeve them.

I found many slots to barely fit the cards when sleeved. This is especially true of Rats, Urchin/Mercenary, Hermit/Madman and Shelters, but even the normal kingdom cards seemed tighter than in previous boxes. I'm just going to buy a tackle box and move them all over so they fit right.

Wait - are Urchin and Mercenary shoved into one slot?

Yep, as are Hermit/Madman. There are four sets of cards which hold 18-20 cards (the four I mentioned above) that are all together (four consecutive slots breaking the flow of cards in alphabetical order). I think those slots are a little bigger than the others, but they are a really tight fit in sleeves.

Teproc 3- jmieden 1

Game 1: Teproc 50, jmieden 24
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201208/28/game-20120828-071947-6913c187.html

This one started with an alchemist race, and turn 3/4/5 put Teproc well ahead of me as he went 5/3p/4p and I got 4/4/5p. He didn't waste the advantage and grabbed Goons and great support with Cartographer early. He smoked me; it wasn't even close. Good game though :)

Game 2: Teproc 68, jmieden 63

I forgot to grab the log on this one. This board was crazy. It was a colony board with many great province cards. It was Goons, Mine, Minion, Vault, Venture, Tournament, Horse Traders, JoaT, some $3 and Fool's Gold. With so many choices and so many power cards for province games, each of us contemplated whether to rush provinces or go after colonies. I ended up going heavy into Tournament and took a Minion and Goons as well. He took a Horse Traders and a bunch of Ventures and a Goons early, then transitioned to Tournament and BM. We both got to province at the same time and the game ended up really close, but Teproc came out on top.

Game 3: jmieden 14, Teproc 11
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201208/28/game-20120828-071947-6913c187.html

This was a fun one. I opened Warehouse/JoaT and he opened Silver/JoaT. It was a great tactical IGG game, which are my favorite to play. I think that the Warehouse (awesome synergy with JoaT) sealed this one up for me. Just like many good IGG games, it was really close.

Game 4: Teproc 36, jmieden 22
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201208/28/game-20120828-074914-35257447.html

This was a fun game. I was feeling like I wanted to experiment, having had Warehouse work out so great in the last game, so I didn't open Sea Hag/Silver like I should have. Instead I went Talisman/Silver hoping to Get 2xRemake early and Highways and get into that combo. The Sea Hags slowed me down too much and Teproc built a great deck with Nobles, Walled Village, Conspirator and Highway. On my last turn, I was able to get to 6 back with 1 province remaining, but Teproc buried me on his next go.

Overall:
Four great games with a very classy player. Had some very interesting boards with very different skill sets needed to win. Two times, we opted for completely different strategies, so that's always fun too. I enjoyed these thoroughly and look forward to playing against Teproc again. Much luck to him in the next round!

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Best set to mix with DA?
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:33:12 pm »
I've played a few (3-5) games with all the expansions and at least 3 DA cards, but greatly prefer playing with DA (4-6) + Base (2-4) + Intrigue (2-4) (I've played about 20 or so games this way). It's helped to see some of the more basic ways to combo them first before moving into the more complex sets.

I can't wait to see how it influences combos and strategies that we already know. This set is great!

Been trying for apx 4 hours today off and on. The farthest I got was in "Adventures." I got all the way to the loading screen for the first game. It took too long to load the game state, so I was forced to resign as soon as I got in. It did let me play 1 copper before kicking me though :)

Now I can't log in at all.

*"Trash a curse" (Ruined Chapel)

Or maybe- Ruined Chapel: "Trash one curse or Ruins card."

That will be very, very useful in almost every game with a looter.

It would be out every game with a looter, so it would always have value. Maybe that makes your suggestion more compelling. The +1 buy would be the same way- only ok on a select few boards, but still bad.

The additional effect of Duchess is neutral though, and not usually an advantage for the guy playing it.

It's best extra effect imo is the "gain it with Duchy" thing. This makes it virtually a 0 in many cases. It's other effect can be beneficial to all players. You're probably right, and I could see the coin only being +1, but it didn't seem as useful as +1 buy.

Quote from: Varsinor
I am sure your predictions for Ruins which give +2 Cards or +$2 are off. Overall such a card wouldn't be something bad often enough, there are almost as many kingdoms where you'd voluntarily take that card for free (and benefit from it) as where you wouldn't. There were quite a few occasions where I have bought a Moat for 2 although there were no attack cards and quite a few occasions were I have gained or bought a Duchess although I couldn't expect to profit from its extra function more than my opponent. Also, you'd probably buy out those +2-Ruins in many Goons games.

I think you're right here, but I couldn't figure out a better way to do a drawer. I didn't think +1 Card made any sense. I kinda like the suggestion posited earlier about +2 Cards, discard one card by

Ruined Lab: +2 cards, discard a card

It might even be a Ruined Courtyard- +2 Cards, put one card back on your deck, although this may be more of a benefit for splitting terminals than a handicap for having to keep whatever card you put back in your deck cycle.

Maybe "+2 Cards, discard 1 treasure card, or reveal a hand with no treasure" or something.

My guess:

Ruined Smithy (or Lab): +2 cards
(reason: we have 2 cost cards that give +3 cards, put one back (Courtyard) and +2 cards with extra effects (Moat, Steward)
Even +2 cards seems like a substantial step down from what we have already and matching the value of a buy.

Ruined Village: +2 actions
(reason: we have 2 cost cards that give +2 actions, but always give extra things (Native Village, Crossroads for the first, Hamlet for a discard)

Ruined Festival or something: +2 coins
(reason: we have 2 cost cards that give +2 coins, but always provide an additional effect (Duchess, Embargo)

Ruined Market: +1 buy
(reason: we already know this one)

Ruined Chapel: Trash one card from your hand
No reason for this one, it's just a wild guess- Donald said we wouldn't figure it out. This one makes sense, so it's probably not right.

Edit: not Steward... I guess I have Squire on the brain :P

I'm about to buy all the remaining expansions and I want to sleeve them all and thus order the appropriate number of sleeves with the games.

Where I might I find a single source that tells me the card counts for each boxed set?

I would also not buy exactly how many you need- several of the cases will break, and some of them don't fit exactly. I would buy an extra 100-200 or so.

Total cards (including new art Base Cards)- 2800 cards, so I would buy 3,000 at least.
