Title: John von Neumann and Empiricism
Post by: yaron on August 01, 2013, 12:32:48 pm
Do the extra Bulbs granted by von Neumann count towards Empiricism's win condition?

I thought they would, but Isotropic didn't count them: http://innovation.isotropic.org/gamelog/201308/01/game-20130801-092139-e304607c.html

Technically, Empiricism only counts Bulbs "on your board", but that phrasing is from before there were any other kind of Bulbs.  So, when effects grant icons, do those icons count as being on the board?

Thanks!

Yes, they count.  (Though I too did wonder about whether "on your board" meant that they shouldn't.)

The bug in this case was that it wasn't recounting your icons between Empiricism's first effect (drawing a card) and its second (checking for the win condition).  So it thought you only had 19 lightbulbs.  Fixed with next restart.

Haha, I had exactly this happen today. It's pretty cool to see the answer up here already!
