I've seen a bunch of folks post in other threads that there's more Guilds could have done with the set mechanic and that Guilds should have been a full set. I'm not convinced yet. What else would you like to do with coin tokens or overpaying?
-
Well it's not really possible for real-life play, but it would have been nice if overpaying for a card actually made the card better in your deck.
Also, here's some pre-Guilds discussion on what people were hoping for: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=7565.0 (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=7565.0)
As I mention in the OP, I would have liked more cards that are more powerful, but limited by a once-per-turn mechanic like Crossroads.

I would have liked an "overpay on play", something like :
Guild's village
+1 card
+1 coin token
You may spend any number of coin tokens. For each coin token spend this way, +1 action
(and you can put the coin token on the card to remember how many actions you have)

Or maybe something like this:
+2 coin tokens
You may trash a card from your hand and then pay any number of coin tokens. If you did trash a card, gain a card with a cost of up to the cost of the trashed card plus the number of coin tokens you paid.

I mean, Butcher has this mechanic. I wouldn't call it "overpay" at all; simply an alternative use for coin tokens. But I'd agree that more uses for coin tokens may have been nice. On the other hand, simply thinking of coin tokens as "just extra money that's saved up" is nice also.
-
Coin tokens are already pretty good to have, I don't think there need to be other uses for them.
-
I think the starting-game requirement of Baker is very cool on most boards and opens a lot of different possibilities. I think it would be fun to have another card with the same mechanic so that it was seen in more games. Then when both appear(very rarely) you could have the 2-token start.
-
It would be nice if Guilds didn't make an exception for Pirate Ship's tokens.

I've been meaning to try a game where the Pirate Ship tokens work like any other tokens. Just not sure how to modify the coin decision on the card.

There should have been a Cheesemonger.
-
I would have liked to see a Reaction. Maybe it's not practical, but a Reaction that gave Coin tokens would have been nice.

X
$2 Reaction
When you overpay for a card, you may reveal and discard this from your hand. If you do, take a Coin token.
______
When you buy this, you may overpay. If you do, for each $1 you overpaid, topdeck an action card from play.

A coin-token version of Horse Traders, maybe. (I.e., Horse Traders is +card for being attacked, maybe +coin for being attacked would have been doable.)

Right. Probably discarded in reaction to an Attack.

And an Ironic Tiller. And they'd all be bald, although the Tiller would only be ironically bald.

So you're saying, we needed a Wig-maker

And a mad hatter.
