I've been playing on goko recently, mostly because I wanted to learn the DA cards. As has been complained about in the "Match Making" thread and probably elsewhere, the matchmaking system on goko is terrible (there is no matchmaking system, and moreover the majority of multiplayer players are generally split between two rooms: Council Room and Counting House).
Most of the players on goko are new to Dominion, and not hard to beat.
From now on, I encourage other people who read f.ds and want to play multiplayer on public goko to meet in the Outpost room. If this thread gets at least 5 positive replies, I'll do so myself. I'll sit there playing against bots if I have to.

I see where you're going, and your logic, but Secret Chamber has isotropic history behind it which would make it easier for members to remember to go there.

Or you could have the option to let non-members enter, but it would be clear to them it was the Dominion Strategy room, so it could encourage them to check out the site.

Yes, from reading their recent responses on GetSatisfaction, they have a lot on their plate, so this would be a low priority among everything else that really needs to be done.

Worked already well yesterday. I played a bunch of games against Watno and Beyond Awesome and loppo were also there.
I think this was a really good idea RiemannZetaJones.
Let's just hope we get a good automatch option soon so that this isn't necessary anymore.

Well this kinda serves a differnt purpose than matchmaking. It makes you play against people you know in way, while matchmaking would make you play against people with similar skill level.
Of course, people who frequent Strategy forums tend to have a decently high skill level, so it helps in that regard too.
But most of the people I join in random games are quite good though (which might coincide with players hosting all-cards-games tending to be more experienced than others).

It's perfectly plausible that there could just have been some random people in the Outpost room. There are often 1 or 2 people hanging out in the rooms that aren't Council Room or Counting House.

I wasn't complaining that I didnt know the people in there, just that nobody else from here was in there.
I take such things very personally, I may go to bed to have a little cry now.

But it could be as well be someone who for whatever reason knows about IRC, and gives a snarky comment on the fact that nobody uses IRC anymore.
To use it is actually not very difficult, for most Instant Messengers it's about to hard to configure as ICQ, and don't tell those kids don't use ICQ anymore, I've met my cousin there and she's 13, and don't tell me you are using the web interface, because why would anyone do this beside for complying with their EULA...

I don't even SEE Outpost...

if you dont see the outpost room, then there is something in your browser blocking a script running. If you got to the multiplayer page and click on the rooms to choose there should be the possibility to scroll down a list of something like 50 rooms.
Maybe you can just see 7 rooms and no scroll bar. So the last visible room for you should be Laboratory. Choose that room, than go to the room menu again and press the cursor down button exactly 4 times. This brings you to the outpost room.
Or use another browser. When i use IE it shows me the rooms. In Chrome i don't see them. The game runs more smoothly for me in chrome, so use i nevertheless. But in the last couple of days i haven't met people in the outpost room.
Maybe we should change to the great hall. Its easaly accessible for the people with scroll problems, and you see if somebody is there wiithout going down the list. So you can easily play in the other rooms, and check from time to time if someone new is there.

I essentially never see anybody in there. Yesterday late afternoon CET I saw loppo and Watno playing. And some days ago it was Qvist and Watno. But otherwise, nothing going on there.

I think the main problem is that if you see no one in there you don't got there. And if you don't go there, no one can see you there. So in the end, maybe even though there are a bunch of people around on Goko, Outpost is just empty.

No, there isn't. It shows up if I use Firefox, but Firefox doesn't run Goko as smoothly. Maybe I should give it another shot.

It's not Windows 8--I see all the lobbies just fine in Chrome. I'm using the latest beta, maybe it only works in that? Could also be the result of Noscript or some other extension.

i use chrome / Windows 8 and don't have the scrollbar either. But with the method described above, you can still get to the outpost room. That scrollbar thing is why i suggested moving over to the great hall, which would be accessible for everybody, scrollbar or not.

I didn't realize until seeing this thread that there are rooms below the laboratory on the list. In my experience, other players on Goko beat me most of the time, so maybe the Outpost wouldn't be the place for me to look for games anyway. Would be really nice to have rooms separated by skill level though.
