Title: Achieving a goal: the Flash
Post by: () | (_) ^/ on December 19, 2012, 11:02:44 am
So, I log on to find that council room is back! (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=4355.msg158819#msg158819)  Hooray!

Cool.  I'll check out my page, see what I've been up to.

There is this one goal I've always wanted to achieve -- The Flash.  I can never pull it off.

Oh snap!  There it is!  "Won in 8 turns, 14 NOV 2012".  Whoa.

Hmm, let me check out that game, see who I beat in only 8 turns.

Obi Wan Bonogi (log (http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20121114-115258-6cfb30b0.html))

Wait, what?

My 4/3 opening beat his Wharf/Native Village opening.  And my Turn 3 purchase was a Talisman, one of my most hated cards (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=5278.msg128711#msg128711).

OWB, I'm so sorry.  You didn't deserve this.  You're a way, WAAAAY better player than me.

Councilroom, I'm glad you're back.

EDIT:  Also, I've wanted to achieve the Golfer goal (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=5437.0).  Turns out I've earned that one, too (twice)!  I had no idea.

And the second time I earned it, the game had Goons in it, and I was the only one to buy one! (http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120821-115215-d417d910.html)  Imagine that -- winning with a negative score with Goons in the supply.

Craziness.  My world is now upside down.  (Read: I just discovered something unexpected on my personal statistics page for this online implementation of this card game that I sometimes play as part of my hobby of strategy gaming.)

Of course, the more that I think about it, I see that a quick win is MORE likely to happen against a good player.

A better player is going to be more efficient in pursuit of a strategy.  If you're going for the same strategy, then piles may run out quickly, thus making the game insanely fast.  That's what happened here, I think.

Nice games.
Made me take a look at mine.
I have the flash twice.
Once with 5 Prov in 9 turns!

The other a crazy Wharf game again WW

See what I mean about it being with better players?  Although that first game caused slightly different strategies due to the opening difference (5/2 vs. 4/3).  In the end, those Council Rooms really accelerated things for both of you.

(Aside -- hey, Rabid, I see that I have played more games with you than anyone else!  I'm 12-18-1 against you.  Craziness.  In fact, there are several high ranking players that I do well against, yet on the whole cannot break level 40.  Must be a "high variance" thing.  No sleep lost, though  :))

I found out that I have The Flash as well. :) Super happy about that one. Golfer is one I haven't yet achieved. Anticliamactic and Triple Pile Driver are pretty cool too.

New goal for myself: Triple Pile Drive without Gardens. I've done it 5 times, each time with Gardens and one of Ironworks/Workshop ;D

It doesn't give me any achievements or anything, but I'm pretty proud of this record: 13-11-1. The record itself doesn't really look like much, but it's my record against Marin.

So, upon further inspection, I see I'm only missing Anticlimactic (I almost never play >2 player on iso), and Champion Prize Fighter.

Champion Prize Fighter has only been achieved 41 times (http://councilroom.com/goals (http://councilroom.com/goals), scroll to bottom).  35 people have achieved it once, Playa5000 has achieved it twice, and Hillpeople has achieved it four times!

Very cool.

After reading this, I checked out the circumstances of me getting this.  Turns out it was always with Gardens or Silk Road.  However, one game stood out:

I gained 10 Envoys, 10 Inns, and 8 Silk Roads.  In a Black Market game.  Where I picked up the only Goons, the only Possession, and the only Fairgrounds (from the Black Market, obv).  In which I achieved NINE goals. (http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20121023-114338-ae7b3114.html)

Pretty crazy.

Reading that log makes me feel dirty.  I feel like I need to go over to the Dear My Opponent I am Sorry thread and say something...

There should be a goal: Opened with Scout and won.

Hillpeople did it twice in one day on two different occasions, and the second time it was against the same person both times. Either his opponent has no idea what he's doing...or...http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120626-011318-81f60d47.html (http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120626-011318-81f60d47.html). He also helped him achieve the anticlimactic one on the same day http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120626-012721-b057881e.html (http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120626-012721-b057881e.html). Guess they were busy that day!

Yeah, obvious cheating staged achievement mining or whatever you want to call it.  Trashing a Gold with Chapel, playing a Platinum and 2 Golds to buy a Platinum. (http://councilroom.mccllstr.com/game?game_id=game-20120626-011318-81f60d47.html#Hanuman-show-turn-23)  Sounds legit.  Don't edge case my sarcasm.

Ugh.

I kind of want one of those shirts now. ;) Although I think that most of my wins comes from BM plays.
