What's a tournament without a little meta-discussion.
So let's hear it, which division would you least want to be placed in?
-
Gardens looks tough, but Witch seems brutal...with WW, olneyce, and Marin all in there...that gets the "I'm glad I'm not in that bracket" award from me.
-
Heh, I've already been scanning the lists thinking about this. I haven't played everyone in each division, but based on the ones I'm familiar with I am pretty sure Witch is the toughest division and Gardens is #2. There are strong players in all four.
I'm afraid to list anyone I fear in particular out of fear of insulting someone who thinks they should be on the list, but needless to say I am terrified of rounds 3, 4 and 5 in Gardens should I make it that far. Good luck, everyone.
-
It's definitely the Witch Division :'(
-
I don't know; chapel division seems pretty difficult. There's this guy in that division, dudeabides, who's really tough ;-)
Honestly, I was thrilled not to be in witch or gardens. Good luck to everyone!
-
I'm just going to say that with 64 people in each division, all of them are pretty darn stacked. Once we get to the divisional rounds of 16, I don't think anybody can be taken lightly at all.

From the Thief Division thread:
Hey, there is the Japanese, the Swedish, last year's Swedish, the Austrian and the German champion - manzi and Fabian also being 1st and 2nd of the world championship - in this division..

+ Fabian's little addition: loppo (Austrian champion) was 3rd at the worlds..
-
Average levels by division:
Chapel: 25.69
Chapel top 16: 41.05
Witch: 25.52
Witch top 16: 40.5
Gardens: 25.38
Gardens top 16: 40.19
Thief: 24.54
Thief top 16: 39.99
But to be fair, Thief gets dragged down quite a bit by the fact that its top seed is manzi, who I think is considerably underrated.
-
Well, he is currently the best player in the world. ;)
-
Well, that's an easy one, the toughest division is the one featuring marin, because he's gonna sweep through :)
-
another factor to take into account: a number of the top players haven't played recently. this might make some of them a little rusty, but it also leads to their variance increasing which brings the level down. i wonder how the groups would look if we looked at just their mean skill ratings? all of that data should be in the entrants spreadsheet.

By average mean skill, it's witch>gardens>chapel> thief. Averaging top 8 in each division keeps that same order. Averaging top 4 in each division changes it to chapel>witch>gardens>thief.
-
In that case you might like the sheet I just added to the final entry list:

So the division with WW doesn't have the most games played? Sounds fishy.

Yeah this is something that needs to be considered. I'm certainly not the player I was a few months ago where I was among the elite players in the world iso.
-
Yeah definitely. At the beginning of the year I would have considered myself top 3 or top 5
in the world on iso in the world, now I have no idea if I'm top 20 or top 50 or top 100 heh.

you are trying to trick us into thinking you aren't good so you can sneak up on everyone again. it won't work (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2y40U2LvKY&t=1m21s)!

I second the "Whichever one has Marin" sentiment.
Although I will tell you all the secret to beating Marin: Distract him with shiny engine pieces. "Look Marin, villages! Oh, and is that an Outpost? You have to use it. I dare you to beat me with Throne Room-Pearl Diver" etc.

Time to repost one of my favorite memes (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=1204.msg116508#msg116508):

More hints, more hints. I probably need them in 2 weeks. ;)

I think this is definitely a factor. I certainly wouldn't include myself in the top players group, but I hadn't played on iso in a while, and it was mainly luck that I happened to check the site while registration was still open. I just started playing again on Friday to get back in the swing of things, so my variance is around 10-12 instead of a more typical (for me) 8-9.

Awesome ;D
The meme is good too, thanks for the laughs !

In my division, Chapel, Stef is in it, for whatever that is worth.

Well you don't have to worry about who's in your division after your first match, bwahahaha.
-
Witch appears to have the most well-known good players with lower-than-expected seeds (from not playing). And has Marin, Geronimoo, and boloni? Yeah, count me...
...you mean I'm set up to play Marin in Round 2? Crap. Time to work on by BM play.

Oh how we all have fallen. I was consistently top-10 around the last IsoDom, and pretty sure I deserved it. Now I'm bouncing around the top 100 and probably deserve that too. Although, have you ever run bad for so long that you're no longer sure whether you've gotten so bad you've lost the ability to see your bad plays?

I don't think the divisions are very different. It's going to be hard to keep advancing in any of them.
But I'm going to go with Witch because I'm in Witch, so it'll make me feel better when I lose.
