Title: The "I bought 10 curses on the final turn to win the game" thread

Final turn saw me with a VP lead, 11 buys and 23 money but the cheapest stack to buy out costing 27 in total.  Until a flash of inspiration hit me.  I feel pretty good about this one given his Pirate ship hit my Gold on turn 7.

Nice. So satisfying, isn't it? Here's mine, involving KC, GM, and Rabble... I love how the 10 VP chips from Bishop offset the 10 curses in the end: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/30/game-20120430-184547-fbda8647.html (btw, lurker for months, first post!)

The Piledriver achievement on councilroom doesn't count curses :(

Down 28 points in a tactician/goons/worker's village engine. Get enough buys to piledrive curses with the help of a talisman.

Couldn't you have bought 8 estates for $16?

And herein lies why I've only done this once: if you have the buys to get 10 curses, your engine almost certainly has the money to run out a different pile with fewer buys. It's only the right call if you absolutely need the money to buy Provinces/Colonies.

The one time I've done it, I technically didn't buy them. I had a pretty large lead and wanted to copy a Greatest Isotropic Moment. So I Embargoed Village a ton and bought 2 to end the game.

You are indeed correct.  Well, don't I feel stupid now.

Hm, I can't find the log, but I do remember once buying out the estates with a haggler in play and draining curses as well to 3 pile. I don't recall if I got all 10 curses on the last turn, so it might not count.

Well, the point is that you found a solution that won you the game right then and there, when all the other options seem to lead to uncertain conclusions (i.e. you not winning the game right now and potentially losing later). And it doesn't matter if you win by 18 more points or not, since the only thing that counts is the win. Plus you also started a pretty cool thread.

So you could argue that buying out the curses was a BETTER solution than buying out the estates. Since they both led to you winning the game, but the curses option also gifted the F.DS community with this thread. :)

I think you can get piledriver for curses.

Thanks to my opponent's Embargoes, I got all 10 of them and didn't actually buy any. And I got piledriver for it as well.

Got one, and with an engine that was only producing $10 that turn, so it was the best way to end the game (I had a huge lead and a better deck, but I still think it counts). Scrying Pool + Goons + Masquerade leads to weird weird games...
