Title: Introduction time.
Post by: paddyodoors on April 24, 2012, 01:54:49 pm
Hi all!

My name is Patrick and I'm:

- 27 years old,
- a husband to the loveliest and most virtuous woman one could ever hope to meet,
- a father to a sweet-sweet 2 year old girl (and another child on the way, due in June),
- a staff accountant for a small public accounting firm in northern Virginia (my town is just outside the DC metro area), and a
- gamer for the past 18 years.

Various tidbits about me:
I have always enjoyed strategy board/card games as well as video games.
I was in the US military for three years after high school.
I have a dual bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics, but my truest intellectual love is Philosophy.
I absolutely love life, even when it sucks (which it really does sometimes).
One day I hope to go back to grad school for my PhD.
Dominion is a relatively new discovery of mine, but is easily one of my favorites.  I teach it to everyone and anyone who will let me.
My favorite color is green (totally relevant, I'm sure you're happy I mentioned it :P).

Green IS the best color!

I lived in Crystal City, just outside D.C., two summers ago, when I was interning at a magazine. Weird place. No one is out at night, but all the lights are on everywhere. It was borderline dystopic.

I believe it -- Crystal City is not known for its night life.  However, there are plenty of places around there that are: there are several areas of Arlington, there is Old Town Alexandria, etc. etc.

I live just outside of all the suburban craziness, and it is a wonderful area to live in...  Grew up here, moved away for seven years or so, and missed it enough to move back.

Old Town is probably my favorite location in the entire East Coast. If I could live there I would.  You are lucky to be so close to that and DC. Love that city!

Welcome to the forum. What does 'Nemo dat quod non habet' mean? Its Latin, right?

"No one gives what he does not have."

Yes, it's Latin.  Considered by many of the ancients as the first principle of philosophy.

DC wassssup. There don't seem to be many Isotropic-ers from DC, especially among those who post at f.ds. I live within the city confines (I am a mile south of the NW Maryland border) and have 4 friends/family members who I have convinced to play on Iso, too. Other than that, slim pickings. Maybe because you and Robz have lived in the area, you can figure out my user name? No, I am not named Nick...

No, but he may or may not be my hero and favorite person on the planet. I mean, look at this boss: (http://edgemagazinesite.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/NickYoungEdge.jpg)
I've also been told that we have slightly similar running styles, if that counts for anything.

- a father to a sweet-sweet 2 year old girl (and another child on the way, due in June),

May 29 is awfully close to June. If that is the case, congrats paddy.

+1 for good investigation.

I believe this was his last post...?

Personally, the forum having a minor flood of Mafia threads sounds a lot more pleasant than a minor flood of cancer such as the Decline of Civility, people to avoid threads.

I personally don't care about Diablo 3, Twilight Struggle, and other games discussed here. So I ignore those threads, problem solved.

Ignoring it!  Why didn't I think of that?!?  I must be having an off day.  You're right, sir, that does solve the problem.  +1 for problem solving.

Actually, I might be having an off day.  Please disregard anything that sounds remotely curmudgeony.

Am I incorrect?  :'(

Mafia games now kill AND exile innocent people!

But no, this wasn't his last post, as the search function shows.

I couldn't get the search function to work properly for me... :( That's just the last post I remember reading.

How do you use the search function to find a specific player's posts?
edit: Actually, I'll post this in a more appropriate subforum.
