The spice merchants made it possible. It took me until turn 22 to have more points than 8 provinces, but then I was pretty set. Because of the tributes I was of course pretty dependent on my opponent following a similar strategy.

What's with all the recent copper threads? Has Hinterlands changed the game to cause Copper to run out faster?
-
Hm
- Cache
- Spice Merchant encourages Copper buying when used in an engine.
- The silver gaining cards caused a closer look at Silver-based decks, which led to a closer look towards alternate VP, which led to the realization that buying Copper in an alternate VP strategy can be a good move.
- Haggler gaining Coppers :P[\li]
Can't think of other reasons though.
-
Ill-Gotten Gains is probably worth a mention.

I came sooooo close to running out the Coppers recently. One left! http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=1922.msg30379#msg30379

Though IGGs do tend to encourage people to take Copper it doesn't tend to cause the Copper pile to run out as IGG games typically end with a pile like Duchy, Gardens, Estate, Island, etc. running out well before Coppers would.

Goons

Thats just me alone going for mass copper. Imagine the possibilities of mass copper 3-4 player w/ goons/contraband.

Here you go, an actual Copper three-pile with Goons, Wharves and Festivals:

Funny thing is, I started that game with the intention of going for the classic Golden Deck with Bishop, but I had to switch strategy when the other guy got three Goons quick, ensuring that I'd almost never be able to hold the standard five cards.

It was pretty gutsy of you to try to Golden Deck with such an attractive attack available! Awesome, though that you could transition into a conventional engine.
