Are the bots supposed to understand landmarks, because I don't think they do based on my admittedly limited play. (I almost never play bots, but will occasionally to finish out a board I like etc) But I had a guy just resign on T4 and I liked the board so I thought I'd just play it out. The board had both collonade and arena. When he left he had already gotten 2 VP for an arena discard. Lord Rat then allowed me to get all 22 other of the landmark pts while whilst Lor Rattington decided that the best way to play this landmark boards was to buy Coins on the next 11 plays (8 silvers and 3 Golds) I was even a little stoned and didn't start my collonade rush until like T 9/10. With slightly smarter play might have been able to clean em out 3-4 turns earlier.
Oh and we were already tunnelling, so it's not like he was short on coins or gold opportunities...
:o
I especially like T 16 where he hits 5 and eschews Witch and Treasury for a Silver. That's exactly what he needed there...
Gonna finish it out and see how bad this gets, but with only coins and a diplomat it can't end well for him even without the 22 point lead...
ETA Did not end well for Lord Rat. He only tied my collonade pts. 64 to 22

In general it seems clear that Lord Rattington does not take Landmarks into account.
I'm going to use this opportunity to complain about Lord Rattington's Counterfeit obsession. He buys Counterfeits like it's going out of style, and then never ever uses them to trash Coppers (or anything else for that matter).

You mean that's not how you play Counterfeit?

As a really expensive, bad Candlestick Maker? Not usually.
EDIT: I guess I should have said Pouch. Just $5 for a Pouch! Whatta deal!

How good, bad, or decent are the bots in general? AFAIK, some Dominion AIs have a list of strong cards, so they know to prioritize those. As expansions get added, that list doesn't always get updated.
-

Terrible. There are many ways the bot can just screw itself over, and even when it doesn't do anything obviously stupid, it's still a slightly suboptimally played big money at best.
-
I'd like to take this opportunity to post about a game I played against Lord Rattington just now.
Final decks:
vishwathg:
7 Coppers, 6 Silvers, 7 Golds, 3 Estates and 6 Provinces
Lord Rattington:
7 Coppers, 3 Silvers, 3 Golds, 4 Estates, 5 Duchies, 2 Provinces, 2 Council Rooms, 2 Merchants and a Militia
And no, I did not trash all my action cards with Donate at the end of the game.

Maybe worthy of a new thread, but it'd be good to have a list of cards that the bot is so atrocious with that a board is not even worth playing if they are present.
Counterfeit and Torturer come to mind immediately.

Legionary (The rat always buys it along with the usual Golds, but never uses the attack) and Alchemist if there aren't any other potion cards in the kingdom (buys potions, but never buys any alchemists)
-
Is he good with... Rats?
-
Not really. The bots over buy anything that trashes and play them even when they have nothing worth trashing.

I'd be interesting to see what decision criteria the bots use to resolve say amulet or steward where there are multiple, draw/gain vs trash options.

In honor of the most recent evidence of lord rattington's performance. I thought I'd bump this thread. My brother is an artificial intelligence professor who jusdt joined Open AI . Maybe he can get one of elon musks interns to tune it up! He's a dominion player too...
But man was this one terrible

Contraband becomes very good against the bots since they always name Gold (even if you play multiple Contrabands).
-
The first card the bots should learn is hovel. Landmarks are rocket science.
-
is there any chance the bots remotely understand events especially viz a viz exile. I'm envisioning repeatedly buying stockpile and never once removing the other 7 from exile so he never gets more than 3 coins, yet burns em all on stockpiles
-
Lord Rattington also does not understand how to play Tournament. He buys lots of Tournaments, but never uses them to get prizes, even if he has a Province in his hand.

They're especially bad with Forager and Junk Dealer. I've seen them trash Provinces with those. What an awesome move
-
Lord Rattington is basically just a Big Money bot with a few cards he knows how to use, sortof. So it gives you a benchmark if your strategy can beat that.
I think if you can't reliably beat the bots (70+% of the time) then I think they could still be valuable to play against to learn how to read cards and devise strategies that at least out perform big money, but they don't give you something to actually reason against.
-
do the different bots do different things or are they just different names on Lord Rattington
-
The bots are all the same. They have different names just so it doesn't become confusing when you play against multiples of them.
-
The bots are pretty stupid. I played against someone who bought lots of Develops and Hideouts, and resigned. I continued because I liked the board, and Lord Rattington decided the best thing to do with the deck was trash all of his cards and buy a few estates.
