I thought Burning Skull was more difficult to beat.

I could not get the bot to launch. Even after adding http://users.telnet.be to the Exceptions List, it still gave me a warning about self-signed apps running.

That would do it! Clearly I shouldn’t run your simulator before I have my morning coffee :)

So it opens Militia / Vassal. Is that the right thing to do? I played one game against it, opened Militia / Silver, and won fairly easily despite going second when the bot failed to hit $5 on Turn 3 or 4 because its opening buys collided. Obviously that won't happen every time but the choice of opening buys makes it much more likely to miss $5 on the first shuffle.

It also doesn't buy Witch. Perhaps with all those Sentries it expects to keep on top of the Curses, but I bought Witch after I'd got two Throne Rooms so that I could play Militia and Throne a Witch every turn, and it finished the game with Curses still in its deck.

No.

The bot seemed pretty good. I opened Vassal/Poacher and played a double Sentry Vassal stack with no attacks (8-10 coins in deck total). The tendency of the bot to buy 4 Sentries makes it overbuild a bit when it's not taking curses

hmm ...
first game I opened Milita / Silver, then poacher / sentry, got a mix of actions (witch, laboratory, throne room) with little focus and beat it 25-23
second try, same opening VS his sentry /none, then sentry/poacher again to his vassal / harbringer. I got a second sentry, 3 labs and rushed gold and provinces. 33-15.

Stupid issue.  When I try to open this jnlp, it just says:

How do I run this thing?

I did a tiny bit of tweaking to "Beat the Bot #1" just to check out how things worked.  I managed to get the modified version's win percentage up to around 60% vs. the vanilla version in two-player bot-vs-bot match.

Biggest improvement was adding a condition for the number of coppers to be greater than three before buying the Sentry to try and avoid too much copper trashing in the early game.  Less significant changes were adding a silver at the end of the list and swapping the buying order between Gold and Sentry.
