Title: What are everyone's favorite and least favorite cards?
Post by: Chappy7 on August 02, 2017, 09:11:37 pm
Sometimes a kingdom pops up and my heart leaps for joy because I see a certain card.  Sometimes a kingdom pops up and I want to die.  What cards make everyone else feel like this?

I love Merchant guild  <3 It may not always be the best card, but I think it is so much fun. I've foolishly bought it so many times. Castles probably pull in at a close second for me.

I hate seeing storyteller.  I know lots of people love it, but I feel like it just guarantees a really long and painful game full of 5 minute turns.  I know that it is often an awesome card, but I don't have fun with it.

"Ooh, this looks like an interesting board! A couple of possible strategies here. Not sure which is better! I guess I'll..."

"Oh wait, Rebuild is on the board. Sigh. I guess I'll go for that, then."

I don't know if I have a favorite, but Rebuild is definitely my least favorite. It makes so many other cards insignificant.

My favourite card is tunnel. Whenever I manage to pull off its reaction, it makes me feel really clever. Gardens is another card that makes me happy to see. I didn't use to have the guts to commit to gardens rushes, but I've been going for them more and more often, and had a lot of success with them. There's something very liberating about giving in to filling your deck with garbage.

Least favourites:
- Cards that tend to dominate kingdoms they appear in: Rebuild, Sauna, Cultist
- Possession, because it's emotionally traumatic
- Peasant, because it means the game is probably going to end with some really long turns, and I'm going to have to think really hard.

The least favourite cards is easy: Rebuild and IGG (also Wall if you cound Landmarks). Maybe also Possession since it is somehow "broken".

My favourite cards... that's though. I think it is Casles. Also Capital with Crown.

When playing solo I also like Goons and Peddler. However, IRL I tend to play nicer (since I mostly play with my parents and sibblings).

My most favorite card at the moment is Gladiator/Fortune. There's a ton of cool tactics tricks you can do with Gladiator, and the availability of Fortune almost automatically makes it an engine game.

My least favorite card is Lighthouse, closely followed by Moat.

Favorite: Miser because it's cool and also provokes interesting considerations over whether it's worth it. I like that it's not usually that great but sometimes it's really awesome.

Least favorite: obv Rebuild. Like, it doesn't even feel like Dominion anymore.

I really like seing Rebuild in the kingdom lately, a lot of people still go for it like crazy and fail! Well, sometimes I get punished for not going for it :)

City Quarter is personal favorite.

And I really dislike seing Page and Tournament on the board.

Possession. Whenever it's on the table I think "I better play bad so my wife cannot buy 6 Provinces with a King's Courted Possession again."

Here's a similar thread: Favorite cards, and why (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=16863.msg671968#msg671968).

Black Market and Villa are my favorites for how interesting they make the game, and Possession (encourages ruining your own deck), Rebuild, and Cultist (both for often leading to boring, monolithic games) the least.

Favourite - Contraband. I know most of the time it is useless, but on those few boards where you want it I love the extra dimension it adds.

Least favourite - Rebuild. Strong monolithic strategies are boring.

Harvest is boring and weak.  Bridge Troll is awesome.  Giant is weak, but fun.

Favorite: Guide. It has a lot of cool interactions with other set-aside cards and it's a really nice counter to many attacks. It's one of the most flexible cards.

Least favorite: Advisor. It forces me to make way too many (often meaningless) decisions during my opponent's turn.

Yay, another one of these threads! :D

Favs:
Black Market. Especially since ShIT. Just love the randomness (I mean, I also hate it sometimes, but that's why it's exciting).
Butcher
Menagerie. Just tickles my heart so so much when I activate it.
Tournament
Spice Merchant
Ambassador
Castles. I like trying to figure out if they're worth it or not.
Goons

Not Favs:
Cultist
Rebuild
Urchin
King's Court. Makes my brain hurt sometimes.

Least favorites:

Governor: Maybe I misplay it, but I often find myself in a point hole that I can't quite make up with the deck I have. I just hate how you pretty much always have to go for it, and it seems to work out for me less often than I'd like.

Minion: Nothing frustrates me more than repeatedly discarding 5 good cards for 4 bad cards.

Page: Too many things about it can make me want to ragequit. Warrioring a warrior is the notorious one, but sometimes it can be something like my Champion was in my bottom 3 cards, so I got the last few curses/ruins right before I played it.

Fools Gold: I mostly dislike it because I ignore it perhaps more often than I should, but it also sucks to get behind early on the split, like if you get a +buy card and it misses the shuffle or something.

Favorites:

City Quarter: I like how the timing works for this card. Sometimes I get it wrong, but it's really fun to get right.

Black Market: Pretty much always lets you at least try to do something interesting.

Encampment/Plunder: Another one that I sometimes play wrong, but it's really fun to get the majority of these and rack up points while drawing the deck.

Farmer's Market: Really fun in an engine game, where hitting the high payoffs and keeping the right number of these around keeps things interesting.

I really like Philosopher's Stone for some weird reason. Also Baker. And Haven. I dislike Warrior, Rebuild and IGG.

Favorite cards:

Villa -- love the "goes into your hand and can be played immediately" thing. So nice for when you run out of actions but have more action cards to play and a large amount of money on hand or in your deck.
Chapel -- "Every day I'm Shuffling"

Least favorite cards:

Saboteur - so glad that that got removed from the 2nd edition of Intrigue
Edit: Someone said Harvest, and that is a pretty lame card, especially for $5
