Title: Curse-split, opponent just disconnected, calling me a novice...
Post by: Pinkie88 on July 24, 2017, 08:28:12 am
This is my first post here, because I was just baffled by a game I just played.

Kingdom with Witch, Familiar, Rebuild and Noble Brigand.

My opponent left the table (not even resigning) with the following words after the tenth turn:

Quote
Yosemite:  seriously?
Yosemite:  jesus
Yosemite:  nice draws
Yosemite:  hahahaha
Yosemite:  5-1
Yosemite:  on same start
Pinkie88:  But you didn't buy a potion?
Yosemite:  yeah that's it
Yosemite:  can you like, go
Yosemite:  jesus christ
Yosemite:  peace out novice
Yosemite:  good drawsac

Can somebody explain? What makes me a 'novice'? Did I do something strange?
Why didn't he just buy a potion in turn 4? It seems logical to me that I win the curse-split with a Witch and a familiar against only a witch, doesn't have to do anything with luck imo?

It's this phenomenon that happens occasionally when playing people who think they are better than they are and can only lose if they have bad luck.

You did get fortunate playing witch on T3 rather than T4 (which made it miss the shuffle for him). But that isn't the end of the world. I wouldn't advise going familiar here after opening witch, but meh. It worked. You gained an advantage and exploited that advantage. Which is good play

Don't let this asshole make you stop playing the game, just blacklist him and move on.
Most of the players are pretty polite and adequate.

Yosemite is pretty famous for acting like this. Had he won the game, he would have called you a novice regardless.

For actual game potion is quite big mistake but opponent made similar one by buying basically coppers. Noble brigand is quite useless here as it mostly hits ton of green, coppers and curses.

For rebuild game familiar is too slow as it gives bad economy. You want only one witch/sea hag/marauder... to slow opponent down. after that its about getting rebuilds and duchies. Curses are secondary to getting lead with 5 duchies. Here correct  buy on 4 is either duplicate or silver as duplicate gives 2 rebuilds on hitting 5 or 2 duchies when rebuilding estate.
