Title: Duke and Annex
Post by: NZacharias on January 06, 2017, 01:08:29 am
I didn't find it in the search bar, but essentially here is the strat.

1.Buy some cards that might help you early. You only really need to reach 5 coins, but reaching 8 can be nice as well.

2.Once you feel somewhat comfortable, start buying annex every time you can. Completely empty the Duchy pile. Cards like duplicate can help you with this. Remember to use annex to continue to buy annex

3. Buy all the dukes. If your opponent doesn't catch on to what you are doing every duke will be worth 8 VP each.

Reply with any flaw/way to improve this strat.

How are you going to afford Annex every turn? It costs 8 debt, so if you want to buy it every turn, you need to generate $8 every turn. If you have a deck that can generate $8 every turn, then you can buy a Province each turn instead of buying Annex every turn.

Yeah I think you're honestly better off just buying Duchies

I think you need good cards that you want to shuffle in to hit (an average of) 8 for this to be worth it. So unless if its the last duchy buying duchy is pretty much better.

I have no doubt that the presence of Annex helps Duke decks, but you should only buy it when:
Otherwise, you should buy a Duchy directly.  Annex does allow you to pick up Duchies with a less consistent deck, but you still need to hit $5 to buy Duke, so I don't think it changes the situation too much.  Also, Annex makes it trivial for your opponent to gain the last Duchy without slowing down much.
