Title: What feature will you miss the least?
Post by: cactus on December 07, 2016, 04:57:08 am
Not long now before this dog of an implementation finally bites the dust. So, which feature will you miss the least? I was going to say the execrable music but then I remembered that you could just switch it off ... so the creepy everybody-has-to-look-the-same avatars are getting my vote. It is going to take me take me way too long to forget them.

Damn. I just remember the battery drain and the (still!) overheating devices ... five years later and it is still so hard to pick one least favourite feature ...

The ugly avatars of some of the cards while it's searching for an opponent, especially Witch, Sea Hag and Militia.

Plot twist: it's implemented again.

Yeah, the crazy battery use is probably towards the top. But also the ridiculous placement of 'end actions', 'end turn' buttons, etc.

I actually wouldn't mind this, as long as it had floating heads from all the sets, rather than just Base, Intrigue, Seaside and Prosperity.  Also no frog prince nonsense.

The ability to play for free (I think).

I had no beef with Making Fun.

RR hates playing games against non-paying peasants?

I actually like the music. I won't miss the "feature" of expansions being released over a year late.

I am a non-paying peasant! And I'm going to miss that.

Oh, I guess you just missed the title of the thread then.

I don't want to declare "features" I will miss the least in MF without being sure they aren't reimplemented in the upcoming 2017 client.

I want to say being unable to choose a starting player during challenge matches.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, when did you go deaf?

I mean, I turned it off after hearing it like 100 times, but it still brings back good memories of learning to play dominion. It also reminds me of the music from a game I played as a kid, Insaniquarium.

I hope I'm going to miss having to choose which of two coppers (or whatever other same two cards) to put back on my deck first.

I'm looking forward to trashing both of them. (sentry)

MF Dominion Online is the only disco party in the world where no one says I'm bad at dancing.

If you wanted to play later, I could change that

I think rankfarm is still on top.

To me it brings back good memories of those people you sometimes meet who are always talking about their Celtic heritage even though no one from their family has been near the UK in about four generations ... and they somehow manage to turn every conversation back to the topic of how wonderful Riverdance is. *shudder*

Just got an email from MF offering free in-game currency in some other shitty game of theirs.  Guess I won't miss that?

Oof, yeah.  The ridiculously scuzzy in-game currency purchases that never quite lined up with the costs of the packs in said currency.

Is there a better way to do this? Default to no discarding unless you press a button saying you want to discard?

How about having a separate interface for playing and discarding, and just letting you play the next card unless you interact with the discarding stuff.

Oh man, where to begin - I'll just start by thinking of the first thing I thought of - the fact that when you want to play against a bot, you select the brain icon in the menu.  This idiocy, while tiny, sums up so much of what was wrong with Goko/MF's Dominion.

I'll also miss having to download the entire implementation of the game whenever they do an update - I assume the new version won't be doing that.

- Super loud victory/defeat end-of-game sounds
- The annoying chime every time some 12-year-old genius types something in the global chat
- The lack of audio and strong visual indicators indicators when it's your time to do something (reveal reaction, pass card, choose advisor discard, etcetera)

That it didn't have any quick selects for stuff like "Always reveal Moat", etc.
It's a real joy to play 5 Scrying Pools and wait for your opponent to respond each time.

Gosh, I miss the blinking taskbar signal from Isotropic. I hope the new client has something similar.

But Making Fun is giving everyone a bunch of those other virtual currencies.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned choosing actions to topdeck due to scheme among a lot of played cards. That can be really annoying. I'm relieved that this works better in the new client.

Because there could be reasons for discarding no cards and gaining a Copper.  Or with 5 Highways in play, discarding no cards and gaining an Artificer, and then likely draining the Artificer pile without discarding anything.

In the case of 0-cost cards, you could just click on the card to gain it (without discarding anything).

With Patrol you don't have to put Curses back!

How has nobody mentioned trying to discern which action card in your hand is which based on a 3-pixel sliver of the left side of the card image?

Also:
~ Inability to mute your opponent.
~ No achievements to pop.  I really miss these from CouncilRoom.com.  Purple Pile Driver was my favorite (get 10 curses and win).
~ When you're playing your glorious mega turn that you spent the entire game working on, the opponent just resigns in the middle of it and you don't get to play your awesome turn.  If the opponent resigns during your turn, there should be a notification that you can accept, or if you ignore the notification then the resignation happens at the end of your turn.
~ No ability to choose same starting hand as a game parameter.
~ No undo when you click the wrong card. (The opponent would have to be able to grant or decline the undo, but it should be there.)
~ The end actions/end turn buttons in the same exact spot.
