Title: Season 19 Dates & Discussion
Post by: drsteelhammer on November 27, 2016, 06:34:05 pm
Just keeping you up to date: Since we're transitioning platforms, the new season will begin on Monday the 9th. Hopefully everybody is accomodated with the new client until then.

The signups wont open until we know more about ShuffleIt's subscrption models and everyone knows whether they will subscribe or not. If it actually means that non-subscribers can only play with a limited amount of cards, we need to create new rules for signups. Of course that is only speculation, but if it comes to that, what are your ideas? Require subscription for the regular league + a base division, maybe?

Also, due to unfortunate timings this is the second long break in a row, should we do a little casual tournament inbetween?

While I am for a casual tournament, I am also for a complete break until S19. Of course, the tournament can just happen and people who are burned out don't have to play, so it's kind of a moot point.

Monday January 9 seems pretty soon. I will probably wait until S20 with rejoining if S19 starts on January 9.

People looking for a casual tournament to fill the time until S19 should definitely consider my mono-set tournament: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=16554.0

I'm cautiously optimistic that the transition to Shuffle IT's platform will go smoothly enough that we can start a League by the 9th.

Not sure if this is the place to post but I think the league should have some policy on Undo. It could simply be to let the players deal with it however they want but maybe some guidelines can be set. I can see someone easily making a mistake for whatever reason and thinking it is reasonable to grant an undo but their opponent disagreeing.

I think the way it is currently implemented is fine. If your opponent doesn't grant it, tough shit. No one should be under an obligation to grant an undo or to have rules governig when it is or is not OK.

I think an undo rule is needed.
Maybe:
A) Undo is encouraged, please allow any undo that doesn't leak information.
B) Undo is allowed, but at your opponents discretion.
C) Undo should only be used to fix bugs, please do not request an undo to fix a misclick.
D) Undo is not allowed.

I think B is the pretty clear answer here. Be prepared to give an explanation in certain cases.

The moderator team will discuss this and add something to the official rules. For now, the default implementation is fine. No players should feel obligated to grant an undo for any reason.

There are some bugs in the game that require an undo.
i.e. if you ONLY have a trader in your hand and play it the game won't let you play anything and an undo is required to continue the game. You can test this and see.

If the game cannot proceed without an undo and no information has been revealed, then it should be granted.

If information has been revealed, we will evaluate on a case by case basis. (If the opponent feels an unfair advantage has been gained, grant the undo, finish the match, and report the details to the moderating team.)

I do not expect game breaking bugs to last very long, so hopefully this will not be a frequent occurrence.

These rulings are temporary and subject to change as soon as the moderating team discusses the undo feature.

A suggestion: if there is a known bug that may interfere with the kingdom you have rolled, discuss it with your opponent before playing. You may want to reroll for a different kingdom, soft-ban a particular card, or whatever. But it's best to do as much of this as possible before the game starts, so the mods aren't put into a position of having to decide games.

Also, if you feel you may be prone to misclicks due to the new interface, slow down! You don't get extra VPs for extra fast play.

There should be a policy that league games should have "respect familiar cards" turned off though

Starting player rules should also be adjusted now that you can easily select it. I would suggest alternating.

I think if a bug happens like a card not working like it should, undo should be granted. Or, if the game breaks, undo should be granted.

If you want to undo for any other reason like a misclick, I think it is up to each opponent if they want to grant an undo or not.
