Title: Round 1 Matchups & Results
Post by: drsteelhammer on October 01, 2016, 02:54:30 pm
Hi everyone,

Here you can find your opponent in round 1. Please send a PM to that person immediately to schedule your match. If your opponent doesn't respond to your messages after a few days, please contact one of the mods. The deadline for round 1 is October 9th, round 2 will begin the day after.

After you've finished playing, please post your results here. Remember: Six games, each one is starting player three times. If someone wins 3,5 matches, you can stop playing. Make sure to read the rules (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15983.0) carefully before playing your first match.

Please use this thread only to post results and questions directly related to a specific result. Use the rules thread for rules questions, or game reports (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=16326.0) to discuss matches.

To sign up, you had to be a forum member. You can contact other forum members through the PM function.

To do so, go to that member's profile and click the "Send PM" link, or from the top bar, click "My Messages", then "Messages > New Message" from the inbox.

jsh also made a Discord channel for this tournament (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=16329.0), which you can use for real-time coordinating.

Use the member search function (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?action=mlist;sa=search) to find your opponent's profile. Be sure to check the "Search by Goko username" option.

Aleimon Thimble - SirDagen: 4.5 - 1.5

I know we could stop playing after reaching 3.5, but we both wanted to play that sixth game, so yeah. :P

By the way, even though SirDagen only won one game, it was the most amazing win ever. He beat me with an engine on a Cultist board without trashing WHILE IGNORING CULTIST. I'm still amazed by it. Will definitely post a log soon.

Might be better to multiply them by ten. 35-15 feels clearer than 7-3.

So this is complicated.

First game ended on opponent disconnect. I think I was ahead enough to be the clear winner, he does not and wants a replay, so that game is indeterminate. I'll PM the log shortly. I started that game. Then we played the other 5 games, which reached 3-2 his favor. For Game 7, I won.

5.1 If a game ends due to an unintentional disconnect from the game, discuss the gamestate with your opponent
5.11 If the game was still close, simply replay the game.
5.12 If the lead was almost insurmountable for one player, award a win to the player who was ahead.
5.2 If you have trouble coming to an agreement, put the match "on hold" and message the admins with the situation that occured. Finish the rest of your five remaining matches and if nobody exceeded 3,5 points, await the moderators' decision.

Chris and I had a thrilling, close contest, and this write-up is accurate. One of the nicest people I've ever encountered.  All I wanted to add is my pov that, while I admit Chris was in a better position at the time of the unfortunate disconnect in game 1, I do not think the position was "almost insurmountable" (rule 5.12). (Chris purchased the first Province, and on my next turn, my client bugged, while I had a hand that was likely to score my first Province.)  I suppose it's up to the admins to make that assessment. If it is possible, I would be happy to finish that game from that point on.

Second, neither of us consulted rule 5.2 during the match to notice that we were supposed to put the match on hold before playing game 7. Chris won game 7.

Let us know how to proceed.

Kind regards,
David

We will look this over. I am willing to facilitate playing this game out over Skype if you would both like to take that route (and the other mods approve the idea).

I'm definitely willing to replay the game from the point of disconnection with Skype and proxy physical cards,, but I do think my lead is almost insurmountable. Mods feel free to PM me if you'd like me to explain how I feel the game would have played out.

Here's the game in question. (http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?http://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20161004/log.0.1475544296608.txt)  At disconnect I had [Fishing Village, Fishing Village, Wharf, Wharf] in duration and my hand was [Fishing Village, City, Copper, Wharf, Copper] + [Estate, Estate, Estate, Wharf] (drawn from duration Wharves).

Kind regards,
David

We have reviewed the game log, and feel that the game result is not clear enough to make a call for one player. How well the end game is played could definitely determine the winner. The decks are quite similar, but it appears Chris has some advantage at this point.

I feel the most fair way to proceed is to continue the game from the point of the disconnect, which I would be happy to facilitate if both players are willing. Chris has expressed willingness to participate in this. Is this something you are willing to do David? Feel free to contact me via PM with any questions about the process I am proposing, or to arrange a schedule.

If we can not arrange to play the end of the disconnected match, our only other option is unfortunately a rematch.

I've been trying to contact my opponent with no luck throughout the week (pm + email). I will keep trying, just wanted to check until when did we have time. (I'd really hate to win by walkover as odds are I should likely lose given rankings).

I'm going to suggest the convention of having just the winner report results. The winner gets a little victory lap, the loser can run away from the thread in shame, and there's less spam. Everyone wins! (Well, actually, only 50% get to win, but you get the idea.)

Sunday is included, yes. If you already emailed him, there is nothing further you can do so don't worry too much about that. We much rather have an underdog in round 2 than a no-show :)
