Title: Gain Provinces as many as possible
Post by: majiponi on July 24, 2016, 09:36:28 am
From this Japanese blog.
http://oourajin.hatenablog.com/entry/2015/03/12/220421

Gain Provinces as many as possible.
1. 4-player game. Other players do nothing.
2. Kingdom is free.
3. Perfect luck.
4. You can use any number of turns.
5. You cannot play cards which have same names multiple times. For example, if you play Copper, you cannot play Copper anymore in this game. Throning is unacceptable.

Hard Mode: Gain Colonies instead of Provinces.
Lunatic Mode: Before Adventures.

Seems pretty OP for Cornucopia. Either way, to clarify, you can have multiple cards in hand of the same name, you can only just play one?

Do you start with a normal deck?

If so, you have at best 1 copper and a necropolis to kick things off. Which pretty much means Poor House and/or a debt Card (Engineer probably) to gain you something else. How many cards can get you more than they cost with a single play?

Seems like there's no limit to the number of times you can buy an event! So Advance has to be pretty important.

Alms is probably key here.

Why don't you get more +buy cards from the black market?  You can also get Princess and highway for cost reduction, although it doesn't look like you will need it, although you could use those coins to buy more traveling fairs.

You can only play Black Market once.

But you could use Madman/City Quarter to quadruple your 100-card handsize, assuming you can stuff 400 cards into the kingdom. Travelling Fair would then provide buys. Inheritance and Ferry might also be useful somehow.

Yes. Only playing is limited.

Oh, I forgot to write this.

6. Up to 2 Events.

If you just want sheer quantity of actions, use the Ruins pile, as it would have 30 in it. It can also give you an extra buy from Ruined Market.

Ah of course. Seaway can give you one more buy

Seaway can give you 4 more if you gain a Ruin with it.

Use Seaway on Sir Martin. That's 12 Buys total from that pile. Use Advance and Ruins to gain them?

There might be a trick to do with split piles or Castles, but the only one that seems potentially useful to me is Fortune.

With a 2 event restriction, maybe Travelling Fair is more useful than Seaway? Both would be great, but the challenge might not be possible without Alms/Advance.  Maybe Teacher could substitute for Seaway? Oh, I guess Advance doesn't have the same potential for increasing deck size as Alms.  Hmm.

If we really wanted to, we could throw the Teacher line in to get the +Buy token on the Knights pile, then use Ferry to be able to Alms all of them?

I mentioned Teacher.

I thought about Ferry, but then that's taking up an Event slot so you may as well have used Seaway to start and done something more productive with the kingdom slot or Black Market buy than the Peasant line.

Excellent! Alms and Fortune are overpowering, as I thought.
Try Lunatic Mode, which is the original version of the quoted blog, which is before the rule change of Band of Misfits. The author managed to gain 7. I only found a way to gain 6.

I can get 7 Colonies in Lunatic Mode. I don't use Band of Misfits but basically the same Scrying Pool/Storeroom payload. The tricky part is getting started and getting enough buys. I will wait to post and see how others can do.

I can manage 7 colonies in Lunatic Mod (no BoM) as well, with presumably a similar solution.

I figured out how to get 8 Colonies in Lunatic Mode. Knights were the key improvement!
Title: Re: Gain Provinces as many as possible
Post by: majiponi on July 26, 2016, 08:12:47 pm
Example: 5 Provinces

Kingdom: Poor House, Squire, Stonemason, Develop, Death Cart,
Remake, Graverobber, Border Village, Expand, Peddler
Use Shelters and Platinum/Colony

Buy Abandoned Mine, Ruined Market, Ruined Village
Play Copper, Abandoned Mine, buy Squire
Play Squire(gain Silver), buy Poor House
Play Necropolis, Ruined Village, Ruined Market, Poor House(reveal Abandoned Mine), buy Death Cart, Peddler
Play Peddler, Death Cart(trash Ruined Village), Silver, buy Stonemason, overpay $6, gain Border Village, Develop, Border Village, Remake
Play Remake(trash Border Village, Peddler, gain Expand, Platinum)
Play Platinum, buy Graverobber
Play Stonemason(trash Platinum, gain Province, Province)
Play Expand(trash Graverobber, gain Province)
Play Develop(trash Expand, gain Province, Border Village, Graverobber)
Play Graverobber(trash Border Village, gain Province)

3B(Black Market, Baker, Bane) are unused. Of course, this is improvable.

Since it's no longer the best, here's my 7 Colonies solution:

Kingdom: Poor House, Secret Chamber, Squire, Stonemason (Bane), Scrying Pool, Hermit, Market Square, Storeroom, Black Market (Black Market deck includes Baker, Death Cart, Young Witch), Remake, Festival

Play Copper, buy Poor House
Buy 30 Ruins
Play Poor House with no treasures, buy Stonemason, overpay 2, gain Squire, Secret Chamber
Play Secret Chamber, discard hand, buy Remake
Play Remake, trash Estate, gain Hermit, trash Estate, gain Market Square
Play Hermit, gain Storeroom, trash Estate, discard Market Square, gain Gold, trash Hermit, gain Madman
Play Stonemason, trash Gold, gain Potion, gain Festival
Play Abandoned Mine, Potion, use coin token from Baker, buy Scrying Pool
Buy all but 1 Copper and Curse (from now on "c" means one of these)

Megaturn: starting hand is cccc+Scrying Pool
Play Scrying Pool, draw 30 Ruins, Poor House, Remake, Secret Chamber, Market Square, Stonemason, Madman, Scrying Pool, Squire, Storeroom, Festival, copper/curse
Play Madman, draw 44 copper/curse -> 1 buy 2 actions 0 money
Play Festival -> 2 buys 3 actions 2 money
Play Squire -> 4 buys 2 actions 3 money
Play Market Square -> 5 buys 2 actions 3 money, draw copper/curse
Play Ruined Market -> 6 buys 1 action 3 money
Play Storeroom, discarding 29 ruins, 50 copper/curse, Poor House, Remake, Stonemason, Secret Chamber -> 7 buys 0 actions 86 money
Buy 7 Colonies

Play Gold, Abandoned Mine, buy Stonemason, overpay $2, gain 2 Squire
Play Stonemason, trash Gold, gain Remake, gain Festival
Play Remake, trash Squire, gain Scrying Pool, gain Silver, trash Squire, gain Sir Martin, gain Black Market
Play Black Market, buy Candlestick Maker
Play Silver, buy Squire
Buy all but 1 Copper and Curse (from now on "c" means one of these)

Megaturn: starting hand is cccc+Scrying Pool
Play Scrying Pool, draw 30 Ruins, Poor House, Remake, Necropolis, Market Square, 2 Stonemason, Madman, Sir Martin, Squire, Storeroom, Festival, Black Market, Candlestick Maker, copper/curse
Play Madman, draw 47 copper/curse -> 1 buy 2 actions 0 money

Play Storeroom, discarding 29 ruins, 52 copper/curse, Poor House, Remake, 2 Stonemason, Black Market -> 10 buys 0 actions 89 money
Use a coin token
Buy 10 Provinces

EDIT: The original author says he can gain 8th without buying in Lunatic Mode.

Here is my Lunatic Mode 8 Colony solution.

Setup
1. Buy Abandoned Mine.

6. Play Develop, trashing Death Cart for Sir Vander and Hermit.
7. Play Stonemason, trashing Sir Vander for Sir Martin, Squire, and Gold.
8. Play Hermit, gaining Black Market. Trash Hermit for Madman.
9. Play Black Market and Gold, buying Tactician.
10. Buy 32 Coppers, 29 Curses, and the last 27 Ruins.
11. Play Tactician.

Megaturn
1. Starting hand is Scrying Pool and 4 Coppers.
2. Tactician duration effect: get +1 Action, +1 Buy, and draw 3 Coppers, Hovel, and Overgrown Estate. Handsize is 10. 2 Actions left.
3. Play Scrying Pool, getting +1 Action and drawing Poor House, Stonemason, Squire, Develop, Storeroom, Black Market, Sir Martin, Madman, Necropolis, 30 Ruins, and Gold. Handsize is 49. 2 Actions left.
4. Play Madman, getting +2 Actions and drawing 48 cards. Handsize is 96. 3 Actions left.

EDIT: This solution does not work, as noted below.

I worked on gaining Colonies without buying, in Lunatic Mode. I got 3 so far:

Kingdom
Poor House
Stonemason
Develop
Remodel
Remake
Baker
Butcher
Catacombs
Forge
Peddler

Buy Abandoned Mine and Ruined Village.
Play Abandoned Mine. Buy Poor House.
Play Necropolis, Ruined Village, Poor House. Buy Stonemason, overpaying $2 for 2 Peddlers.
Play Peddler and Copper. Use coin token. Buy Develop.
Play Remake, trashing 2 Peddlers for 2 Platinums.
Play Platinum. Buy Butcher.
Play Stonemason, trashing Platinum, gaining Peddler, Border Village, and Catacombs.
Play Develop, trashing Peddler, gaining Platinum and Forge.
Play Forge, trashing Catacombs and Border Village, gaining Colony and Remodel.
Play Remodel, trashing Platinum, gaining Colony.
Play Butcher, trashing Platinum, gaining Colony.
