Title: Organizing Dominion games with fan cards using Tabletop Simulator
Post by: LibraryAdventurer on January 22, 2016, 01:30:56 am
I thought I'd start a new thread, since this really has nothing to do with printing cards anymore.

EDIT: Ok, so I just installed Tabletop simulator along with the Dominion cards for it. The controls & stuff will take some getting used to, and I still have to figure out how to put my fan cards into it, but I'm getting started.

They have a little software for card creation packed into it (not inside the simulator, but comes with it), and there's a tutorial for card creation that explains it well. Just watch out you do NOT listen to tutotials that require you to build one gigantic file on your own. The software that's included can export such a printout sheet, no need to do it on your own. I might make a video about this.

I didn't find any card creating software that was included in the download (why do they hide these things?), but I did finally get my fan cards into the simulator, and even played a test game with myself just to see how playing in the simulator works. So I think I'm ready to invite other people to play my cards. So who wants to play who has Tabletop Simulator?
Also, the backs of my cards are not exactly the same as the Dominion cards I downloaded for the simulator. Is there a place I can get the exact card back picture used for the rest of the cards?

I don't have any answers to your questions, but I'm a proud new owner of TS and I'm interested in testing cards, when exams will be over in a month or so. :)

I too jumped on this bandwagon. I messed around in it a bit. And I'm trying to get my cards set up, but haven't finished doing so.

From wherever you have Steam installed (likely either C:\Program Files\Steam or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), you need to go to SteamApps\common\Tabletop Simulator\Modding\Deck Builder. From that folder, run "run_1_gb.bat" (which allocates 1GB of RAM for exporting your deck image).

Is there a place I can get the exact card back picture used for the rest of the cards?
You can use the one I'm hosting. Here's a direct link:
Code: [Select]
http://i.imgur.com/yzZJDcw.jpgBy the way, you'll want to download this image and insert it into the lowest right corner of your card sheet with the deck builder. That region of the image is what the back of the cards look like when they are in players' hands.

I managed to build my Holy Order cards into a deck. Huzzah! Anyone know if any mod has the Dominion tokens, or how to make an apt substitute? Also, I'm up for trying a game with someone this weekend, if there's interest.

I'm about to buy it, and would definitely like to get in on this.

Anyone plan on streaming with TS and fan cards?

Anyone plan on streaming with TS and fan cards?

I thought about it.

Edit: Also, anybody willing to play can PM me. Not that i have time, but tests are going to end sooner or later.

I'm tentatively interested but not sure TTS is actually awesome.  Anyone likely to stream or post on YT?

Sorry that I can't stream or post a video, but I can at least give my opinion.

Playing games on Tabletop Simulator is slow, but it's still fun as long as I'm on Skype chatting with my opponent(s). I wouldn't use it over Dominion Online for playing with the published cards, but I enjoy testing custom cards on it.

Plus you can flip the table. Who doesn't love that?

I'm actually glad it is a bit slow. That way i don't have to feel i'm telling people about this free thing which makes Dominion Online obsolete and steals money from the inventor. There will be people using it as a replacement, but there probably are also people who just write card texts on little sheets of paper and play with that. Those deserve what they get.

For fan cards it's the best thing ever, in my opinion.

Not only fan cards, but game mechanics in general. That is the part that interests me most.

Yeah, this is what interests me most.  I have several games that might be interesting to playtesters with something like this, but I'm not sure it's the best way to go.

It doesn't help that when Tabletopia launches it seems like it'll supplant this anyway.

Thanks, but I guess it's too late now, since I already got my cards into the simulator. And thanks for the card back .jpg.

It has poker chips built in. Seems like those would work fine for most tokens. Not so much for the Adventures tokens, but I haven't seen Adventures cards for tabletop simulator anyway.

If anyone wants to join in a test game of some Holy Order cards tomorrow or (better yet) Sunday (afternoon EST?) send me a PM and we'll set up a time.

Something like 2 hours from now. (make your own math according to your timezone :) )

Chicago's evenings are European nights, I'm afraid.  :-\

Cool, you want to plan a game for Monday eve? (I get home from work about 6)

I recently got TTS and I put in my fan cards and made all the Adventures tokens to look like the official cardboard ones.

If you still want somebody to test with, I'm happy to join you. I'm on eastern time, but my online time varies by day.

I usually just host an open room for anyone to join, but if I have an actual objective, I probably would go look for somebody

PSA: Tabletop Simulator is half price on Steam until April 18th.

[I've bought it but don't have time to do any more than that for a few days]

I'd like to play but I notice you're in Germany which means probably the only time that would work would be on a Wednesday (my usual day off during the week), and this Wednesday I'll probably be looking at apartments. oh well.

Well, i usually stay awake rather long, so if you are in America and can play in the (preferrably earlier) evening, it's fine for me. I mean, depending on where you live, your 7 PM might be my 1 AM, but it's not incredibly rare i stay up till 4 or even 6.

I got TS, and am reasonably proficient with how to use it. I have dominion, but I don't have any skill with hosting games and I haven't figured out how to upload stuff, so it would be better for me to join one of your games.

EDIT: I'm available this afternoon.

Edit (Because it's 9:40 in the evening here).
Edit 2: Ha, i can actually read the time here...

I had all Empires cards on there 09JUN and had the high resolution images 05JUL. Sorry, I'm just complaining for no reason I suppose

Once my Antiquities set stabilizes (aka Nocturne comes out) I would be totally interested.

Of course, once Antiquities is stabilized there's "no point" in testing it, but I'd love to test some other players' cards.
