IRL game. 4 players. Most people screwing around with Knights, one with Rats/Hermit. Aimed to Inherit Highways when no one else was considering it. Finally got it going and ended up as the only person with more than two Provinces.
There was also a game where I won with 31 VP chips.
Apologies and so on.

Screwing around? I'll have you know those Knights were incredibly tactical.

Somewhat related: I had a game where I had just seen a forced tie. Seeing as I am doing rather poorly, I decide to go for it. It involves playing a Jester for money to get to 8 for Province. The Jester hits a Victory card, hands over a curse, and I win.

Here's a rarity, an empty potions pile!

Something is terribly, terribly wrong here. Or there is a bug in the ranking algorithm. Or Stef's MF client is REALLY screwed up.

Isn't that correct, though? The ranking's based off of mu - 3sigma IIRC, and since your sigma's lower you should be rated higher.
-
The joke is that Dingan has apparently passed Stef, and well obviously the idea of being more highly rated than Stef is ludicrous.

So I had a great deck with 7 Alchemists (potion), 4 platinums, 1 gold, 4 fortresses, 1 militia, 3 expands, 1 forge... and a lead.
On a turn, I play a few alchemists and then get tripped up for some reason and play a terminal militia with no potion in play and no way to get back to the alchemists for probably 3 hands.
My opponent has a deck with 6 nobles, 4 fortresses, 3 golems, 3 alchemists, 2 expand, 1 forge, 1 develop, 3 expands...
Over the next two turns, he takes a 14 point lead with two colonies left.
This is my hand:

Not sure why you'd pick up Silver on that board. I mean, if that Silver had been a Native Village...

A house rule my friends play with is that if you don't quote this scene when you play Rabble, the attack doesn't land. This also doubles as a way to make other players pay more attention.

Rabble, Rabble, you've drawn your best
Rabble, Rabble, your hand is a mess
Rabble, Rabble, they didn't know
And now, the game is thrown

I'm going to be a dick and brag about a game I just played for all the wrong reasons.
It was a pretty tricky board, with lots of moving pieces and 3-piles possible from out of nowhere. In the middle of one of my long turns, I get a chat message.
Anon: ugh
Anon: so painfully slow
To which I reply
Titandrake: that's great
Titandrake: I don't really care
Titandrake: these turns are complicated
This must have struck a nerve.
Anon: you will now
I took that as an implicit threat of incoming slow play. "Oh," I think. "Well, I can't afford to indulge slow-playing. Guess I should 3-pile this turn." Which I do, winning by a few points.
Titandrake: no, I don't think I will
Anon: you idiot
Then Anon left.
-
Achievement unlocked?

This board also had Murchinary. When it first came up in random, I had three shuffles without Urchins colliding despite me getting three of them (possibly four), so after ragequitting resigning, I decided to explore the kingdom against a bot, and this happened.

Opp: What's the point of scavenger with stashes?
Opp: Doesn't make any sense whatsoever
Me: I hope this works...
Opp: It's just with stash you're going to put them on top of the deck anyways, so why do you need scavenger too?

I have also played this clown. He really gets very offended. In this case, he thought I had been 'very lucky' that 3 of my Cultists had collided twice, and consequently insulted me. I pointed out that he didn't buy more than 1 Cultist, and that he had actually bought Gold over Cultist early on, which was of course excused by that he'd 'hoped to hit 5' slightly afterwards. And he also thought it was 'luck' that my Grand Market engine worked out at all, and I was of course going to stall out before ending the game. And when I finally won, it was of course, luck, which he promptly pointed out to me with lots and lots of insults.

It will be great to have a blacklist again, which I assume will be a feature in the 2017 implementation.

I know it is a bot game but had I achieved two things.
1) On turn 13 I bought 6 provinces to end the game.
2) Turn 12 was more interesting though. I gained Followers, Trusty Steed and Princess on this turn despite only having a single Province. I drew it 3 times.

Just kings court scavenger silver is enough to get you a province every turn. Until they collide

With slightly better shuffles, I could have gotten 7 Provinces in 15 turns, but since all of my 3 King's Courts collided once, I only got 6 Provinces and one Duchy. It could have been worse if I hadn't gotten a KC in my next hand after the collision by pure luck though, and my early shuffles were 5/5 bretty good so all in all, I think this is only slightly better than what you would normally expect when you go for KC/Scavenger.
-
My opponent just played two King's Courted Possessions in one turn. I still won the game, because he forsaked starting to green in those 6 turns he got to play with my cards, giving me the chance to do so in the 3 Possession turns I got after it, going from 1-0 behind to 65-1 ahead (Colony game).
-
I had an opponent who kept complaining about shuffle luck the whole time, and I told him to calm down. He said he was fine, but then went ballistic on me, telling me it was just luck which was why I won. Sure. And when he wins, it's obviously not luck.

In an IRL game, I had Trader in hand and bought Messenger, gaining a Curse. My two opponents weren't so lucky.
Edit: as pointed out below, this interaction wasn't handled correctly. My opponents shouldn't have gained anything. Gaining a Silver while giving your opponents nothing is still useful, but it's weaker than gaining a Silver while your opponents gain a Curse.
-

This is wrong, I believe. They can't gain a copy of the card you gained, because you didn't gain it. (completely incidentally, you gained a card there, but it was due to another effect - trader's - so it's not affected by messenger).
-
Yeah, this is just basic Blue Dog Rule stuff. It does work with Watchtower though!

Oops! That interaction is not as strong as I thought. Good to know.
-
I guess it can still be useful if you want to gain an extra Silver, but don't want to give your opponent(s) anything.

Purely speculating, but sounds like your opponent should have Develop'ed away their Ambassador(s) once they were thin.

Absolutely. I don't know if he had Ambassador collisions, and he pretty much never was thin, but he had Lighthouse up every turn pretty much, so he couldn't have been that junked.

If you had not gained Scout, you would have had that Farming Village that was on top of your deck in your hand instead of Scout. It would have discarded Province and drawn the Copper. Playing your second Farming Village would shuffle your deck. If the Gold was the only thing in your discard, it would either draw it, or discard the Province again and draw it.
As best I can tell here, Scout is not better than nothing (but Farming Village is better than Village).

I guess you're right with how it has played out, but suppose I would have drawn one Province more for my starting hand. Then I could not have drawn the Gold with the additional FV, but could have still gotten it with Scout... and any situation where I have fewer Provinces in hand lets me draw the Gold either way. So I think gaining Scout was the right choice, since it guaranteed me to double Province, which gaining FV would not have.

The best dominion moment of 2016 is going to be when Adventures comes out online.
Or maybe when MF updates us with an ETA for Adventures.
Or maybe when MF finally shuts down having never released Adventures in the first place.
(Well, I guess there's Empires, but we are guaranteed to be waiting 6 months for that online)
I really want Adventures and I'm growing impatient that every card was allegedly implemented more or less properly a week ago and we haven't even heard anything since.

3P IRL game.
Plan on Page --> Candlestick Maker (Warrior-proof) --> Double Page buys --> cycle like crazy --> buy more Pages, trash all starting cards, lock opponents out of Travelers by grabbing all Warriors and upgrading only one of them to Champion. Put Pathfinding on Page. Final build:
...8 Pages, 4 Warriors, three Platinums, three Silvers leftover from Treasure Hunters. Draw whole deck repeatedly, trashing literally every 3-4 cost card in opponents' decks along the way, play one Candlestick Maker for exactly $22 and two buys, buy double Colonies...five turns in a row.
One opponent was attempting Page buys with Forager (not Warrior-proof) and the other was attempting Pathfinding/City chains. Final score: 106 - 20 - 0.
That said, I made a huge mistake in a 4P IRL game yesterday:
Excellent engine parts (Smithy, Journeyman, Plaza, Count) but not a single extra buy. No junking. Harem. Played a boring Smithy-BM, won by a few points, apologized for being boring.
However, I saw it too late: Highway, Count, Ball. Derp! The Kingdom could easily have supported a very thin deck playing 4 Highways and Balling two Provinces a turn, no double-buy required. I've got to remember that Ball says "a card" and not "an action card" like so many Events do.
(One more: Highway/Prince-Embassy. Wow! Only won by two points over opponent who got Highway/Prince-Journeyman.)
-
This evening my friend opened 4/3 and got Masterpiece(+Silver)/Silver. Strategically, of course, it's generally a bad move to buy Masterpiece for 4, but it worked out lucky for her: she drew $6 each on turns 3 and 4, and when she finally drew her Shelters on turn 5 she drew them with the Altar she had just bought.
-
Playing fully random, I got an amazing board where I scored Fairgrounds for 12 points each.

Kingdom: Stonemason (bane), Black Market, Great Hall, Village, Conspirator, Moneylender, Talisman, Counterfeit, Junk Dealer, Witch, Fairgrounds
Extra supply piles: Potion, Ruins
Extra non-supply piles: Black Market, Spoils
My opponent was strangely cooperative, letting me get 7 of the fairgrounds and even Marauding me so I didn't have to waste too much time buying ruins. Oh, and he also cooperated by not resigning like 20 turns earlier. I ended with 32 distinct cards in my 55-card deck.

Some time ago I had a game where I did more trolling than possibly any other time in my entire life.
But I can't remember if it was this one (http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?http://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20160506/log.0.1462505695936.txt), this one (http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?http://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20160515/log.0.1463289512480.txt), or this one (http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?http://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20160508/log.0.1462734073482.txt). I'm sure many of you have encountered a player named Dominion cartel. He's pretty good at the game when he isn't just hitting buttons, but starts shouting in the chat almost every game about how he has bad luck and you are beating him by getting lucky. Any attempt to rationalize just leads to him driving the chat to further depths of insanity.
Well, today I managed to have a rational discussion with him by simply buttering him up, letting him know I was aware of his handiwork. He explained to me that he has been trolling because he thinks Goko/MF ruined Dominion online and now just wants to watch the world burn. I gave him some hope that the next one may be better, and it seemed to ease his heart.
Then he resigned the game and told me I won purely by getting lucky draws.

I still won though.

IRL 4P game. I was invited to a game night with players who have <50 games experience, so they're still learning. I have all the cards.
I always brief them on all of the cards before the veto round, explaining all of the different strategies possible. We had a very interesting set of cards, but sadly, they decided it was just too much to keep track of (all they are comfortable doing are weak engines that single-province or double-province if they get lucky.)
I've played megaturns against them with Highway or HoP. I've played multi-Province engines. I've played Triple-Gear BM. I've played Distand Lands rushes. I've played decks designed to maximize landmark points (boy are there some unskippable landmarks) and I've played brutal attack-machines like a deck-drawing Catapult engine (a better curser than I expected) and the classic Champion/Page/Page/Page/Warrior/Warrior/Warrior/Sorry your deck is mostly gone sequence. I've always told them it was a thing ahead of time.
So...the kingdom. I pointed out that Feodum was on the board and that Page upgraded to Treasure Hunter could gain a ton of Silver and make a Feodum rush possible. They vetoed Page (see above, mostly.) There was Counterfeit in the kingdom, and Capital. I pointed out that if you counterfeit a Capital, you get $12, two buys and no debt! Counterfeit two and you get $26 and a bunch of buys; enough for two Provinces and two Capitals, or three Provinces on the last turn. They vetoed Capital. Nothing tricky or interesting could be allowed to stand. I did explain that Rebuild was a monolithic strategy and how to play it (buy a few and hammer the Duchies) but no one vetoed it. Rebuild it is, then. Especially because the only draw was Envoy, making an engine extremely difficult.
The Event was Banquet. Yeah, the copper hurts, but opening with two Rebuilds is nice, and then Counterfeit to help hit $5 and trim some copper. Also, buying Duchies with a hand of 5 copper is a thing.
But I like to try to show them new ways to win when I can. I looked hard at the board and thought...when am I going to get this chance again? I had to try it.
Banquet more Rebuilds. On $4, I bought a Stonemason and two Settlers. Cute in a deck full of stupid Copper. Bought some Duchies and rebuilt them into Provinces like you're supposed to, but...
Stonemason an Estate into two Coppers. They looked a bit confused. I had Counterfeits, right?
Counterfeit for $4 and two buys. Banquet a Rebuild, use the extra buy on a Copper. Now they were super confused.
Counterfeit for $6 and two buys. Banquet a Copper, Banquet another Copper, gaining 6 Coppers altogether. Two other piles were already empty.
My left-hand opponent put down his cards and said "Wait...are you....?"
then he looked down at the Landmark.
Tower.
It was too late. I piled out the Copper on my next turn. Ended up with 20+ Coppers.
I swear I warned them. I pointed out that with Feodum and Treasure Hunter, the game could have piled out Silvers for massive Tower points. I even mentioned the Banquet/Copper possibility, but until you see it with your own eyes, I guess the idea of being beaten by Copper just seems insane.
So there it is. A Copper rush. Awesome! (Yes, they could absolutely have stopped me by emptying another pile if they had seen it three or four turns earlier, but it was soooo worth the risk.)
-
I love piling out.

It's a 2-piece combination requiring a 5/2 (not 2/5) opening. That's something fantastical and not likely to happen.

It's very strong. I've seen it done three times in games I've played. None were constructed kingdoms.

Is it as dazzling to the eye as buying out all 8 Provinces in one turn? Or is it a hilarious blunder of immense proportions? This is what I mean by fantastical.

No, but I think it's more fantastical than
I had an opponent who kept complaining about shuffle luck the whole time, and I told him to calm down. He said he was fine, but then went ballistic on me, telling me it was just luck which was why I won. Sure. And when he wins, it's obviously not luck.

Because the latter is more common?

Yes, this just happened to me. It is very unpleasant to play with him.

You know, we should drop all these stupid modifiers and just have a "Dominion Moments" thread.
Could we actually do this? There are 3-4 threads with different modifiers for silly reasons, as far as I can remember, and they've all converged into the same kind of stuff.

Just be happy that there is no "neat and potentially useful Dominion moments" thread.

Wait, what? Is this some time into the game, after you've played a Highway? How unlucky this is depends heavily on how many Coppers you've already trashed. It's not uncommon to open Silver/Moneylender and end up drawing Moneylender, Silver, Estate x3, and that's much worse than having it happen later.
-
It's not uncommon to open Silver/Moneylender and end up drawing Moneylender, Silver, Estate x3
Actually, there's only a 1/792 chance of drawing Moneylender, Silver, Estate x3 on turn 3 or 4 after opening with Silver/Moneylender.
(If I've done my math correctly: 12 choose 7 / 7 choose 7)

Turn 3, after a Baker token, I'm guessing.

No, look at the costs of all the cards; they're reduced by 1.

I think you over complicated it, it's also just 12 choose 5, or 12 choose 7. But uncommon was clearly the wrong word. I guess I meant not unheard of.
-
It was turn 11, and the costs are lowered because I took the screenshot on my opponent's turn and he had a Bridge. Yes, I had trashed like 3 Coppers already, but I also had a bunch of Scrying Pools and City Quarters and other Actions so my expectations to cycle through at least some of my deck, connect the Potion with at least $2 and connect the Moneylender with a Copper should have been pretty good (I mean, that's how it worked out for my opponent). Instead, I skipped the trashing that shuffle, I skipped the Scrying Pool gain that shuffle, and I skipped just one entire turn in general, putting me perhaps two-ish turns behind my opponent in terms of tempo and permanently behind in terms of the Scrying Pool split.
I guess I meant not unheard of.
Yeah and I'm still salty about that too.
