Title: Request: Trader, Treasure Map
Post by: GendoIkari on January 03, 2012, 03:12:53 pm
2 separate requests... In this discussion (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=1335.0) I brought up the possibility of only using 1 of your buys with a 4/3 opening. Most likely it is never a good idea, but I thought of two possibilities where it might be a slight benefit over taking an extra Silver:

BM + Treasure Maps (Less cards in deck = better chance for Treasure Maps to collide. Also might be hard to buy second Treasure Map).

BP + Trader (You plan to get 6 Silver from Estates; you don't want more than that because Golds will be better).

I'm sure both are pretty weak strategies, but I'm wondering if each strategy is better by opening X/Silver or X/nothing. Could someone add that to a BM simulator? I haven't used the simulator before. Thanks!

These are hardly optimized strategies, but just to give you a rough idea:

The computer Trader bot (=bot that only buys 1 Trader and big money) beats BMU 55-41. The computer Trader bot that doesn't buy Silver (since you presumably don't want them) loses 18-79.

The most basic Treasure Map bot I can think of (buys up to 2 Treasure Map) loses to BMU 38-58. The most basic Treasure Map bot that skips buying Silver loses to BMU 20-75.

Buying treasure maps with $4 until you get at least one gold loses to BM 46-48. Same strat without silver loses 28-66.

Thanks both. So yeah, I think it's pretty safe to say that 1 buy with a 4/3 opening is always a bad idea. At least until that new card "Reveal your hand. If you have no Silver in your hand, gain a Gold." comes out!

Apothecary and University do not like Silver, and in lieu of a $3 cantrip I frequently do not use my second buy.

When do you get the case where a)this is on the board, and b) this is the best strategy out there? Especially with apothecary, I'm curious (potion/copper is a consideration...). I guess with university, on a board that really wants a bunch of 5 actions... maybe.
