Title: Adventures: some simulation results
Post by: Geronimoo on April 01, 2015, 05:17:17 pm
Hmmm, shiny new cards to code....

Magpie: Ironmonger big money is a thing and so is Magpie BM, only less so. Magpie 35% - Ironmonger 56%
Storyteller: Storyteller Big money is definitely not a thing (like Warehouse Big Money isn't). It's a sifter, but it won't sift what you most want to sift (green cards) so it's really not a very good sifter. Actually, I have no idea what deck this will be good in.
Haunted Woods: Surprisingly very strong. Almost on par with Wharf in a big money deck (Wharf 52% - HW 42%). I also made an engine to compare with a Rabble engine and it vastly outperforms Rabble.
Swamp Hag: This is the real deal. I mean it's weaker than the other cursers, but it still pounces on any big money deck. Witch 62% - Swamp Hag 34%. Letting the sim buy good stuff (eg gold) when the Hag is out seems better than buying nothing.
Hireling: A free lab every turn is a good thing, but the opportunity cost isn't mild. Hireling Big Money isn't really great, like Laboratory Big Money isn't. I tried to add it to a Fishing Village/Wharf engine, but it didn't like it. I fiddled around a little more and it's probably be worth it in long drawn out games (like cursed or ruins-games).

The reserve cards are too hard to implement because they require good timing and deck knowledge both of which the sim can't handle.

What about Lost City and Amulet?

Could you please clarify which "it" is which? Does Rabble vastly outperform Haunted Woods, or the other way around?

Could you test Haunted Woods BM vs Vault BM?

It's nice to see this, but one of the things which struck me about many of the new cards is that they are fairly difficult to play, so simulation is probably missing some things.

Giant: this card is pretty strong, but definitely not up there with the other cursers. Giant BM loses to Witch BM 27%-70%. It's exactly on par with Ghost Ship BM and loses to Wharf BM 42%-52%.

Haunted Woods BM 43% - Vault BM 50%

Amulet: This is going to be a standard open on a lot of boards. Amulet BM is on par with Smithy BM, but this is obviously also good in engines.

What did you find is the optimal strategy for using Amulet in BM from the simulation?

Lost City: Since this thing only makes sense in engines I built a Wharf/Lost City bot and let it fight against Wharf/Bazaar.

Wharf/Lost City engine 47% - Wharf/Bazaar engine 50%

I think the fact that Lost City does as well as it does here is a testament to how good it is, since if you're building a Wharf engine, the last thing you need is more draw. I'm guessing LC would destroy Bazaar with say Goons.

Amulet i feel is by far the strongest card in the set (well, maybe lost city can compete), although i think it may be hard to simulate due to the different choices (such as; i have 4 money. should i trash a copper or gain a silver?). However, being this strong, i'd really like to see how amulet BM compares to something like Double Jack.

I'm curious to see how Dungeon compares to Warehouse.
