Title: Endless Dominion Picture Trivia
Post by: dghunter79 on March 25, 2015, 02:26:44 pm
Welcome back to Dominion Picture Trivia.  Hope you're all ready to play a third time!  This is the last installment so the difficulty has been ratcheted up a notch.

This round will be a bit different.  In the past two rounds, the goal was to think backwards from a picture to decipher the two Dominion cards that, when entered into Google image search, return that picture as a front page result.

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=12604.0. (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=12604.0.)

In this round, a pair of search terms have again been used to return an image, using Google.  But this time only one of each pair is the name of a Dominion card.  The other term, which is the same for all 12 pairs, is not a card per se, but a word or phrase that has a precise meaning inside the game of Dominion.

Can you figure out the key word or phrase, as well as the 12 Dominion cards that, when paired with this word or phrase, produce the 12 images below?

I think these are pretty hard. Good luck!

The key word is "King."  As in, shorthand for King's Court.  Thanks, everyone, for playing a third time!

1.  King + Harvest -- King Harvest (has surely come), by The Band -- Donald X., ephesos
2.  King + Counting House -- The Song of Sixpence, by Walter Crane -- werothegreat
3.  King + Princess -- Adventure Time -- Donald X., ephesos
4.  King + Mercenary -- Mercenary Kings, art by Paul Robertson -- markusin
5.  King + Scheme -- The Lion King -- ephesos
6.  King + Beggar -- Game of Thrones -- pacovf, ephesos
7.  King + Native Village -- King Kong -- ephesos
8.  King + Remake -- 2012 remake of Carrie   -- DG
9.  King + Altar -- Clash of Clans -- DG
10.  King + Survivors -- Stephen King's The Stand: Soul Survivors -- DLloyd09
11.  King + Ambassador -- U.S. Diplomat Robert King -- ephesos
12.  King + Monument -- Martin Luther King Memorial -- werothegreat

Guesses for the Dominion card:
1. Band of Misfits
2. Baker
3. Adventurer
4. No idea, though I'm sure recognizing the game would help
5. Menagerie? The only card I can think of that deals with animals
6. Candlestick Maker? His head sort of looks like one...
7. No idea, probably from a movie though.
8. Now I know her name... it's Carrie, from Stephen King. Maybe Witch then?
9. Looks like Clash of Clans. I'll guess Stonemason.
10. Albert Einstein playing guitar in a cornfield? Some kind of music album, probably with the card name in it.
11. Definitely an Ambassador, probably from or to a French speaking country(Etats)
12. Gardens
Still no idea on what the second words could be though... gonna list a few possibilities here.
Deck, Card, Turn, Victory, Action, Attack, Treasure, Play, Buy, Coin, Token, Trash, Curse, Draw, Discard, Reaction, Reveal
Exhaustive search seems like it would take pretty long though...

Overall word: King (Nice King, King Kong, Stephen King)
3 is obv. Princess, it's the Nice King and the Slime Princess

It does seem like it's the word, but what meaning does King have in Dominion? Other than being one half of King's Court...

Also, it doesn't quite work, at least for 2. Apparently Baker King is a popular South Korean drama...

Same here... but it does fit well.
6. Beggar King

You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion! In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner.

But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn't be proud, but your grandparents, on your mother's side, would be delighted.

I guess we're all playing as kings then, but wouldn't it be monarch? Maybe it's actually Kingdom, which has the precise meaning of the set of 10 we play with.

You can argue that out with dghunter79, but I mean

1. King Harvest

1. King Harvest
3. King Princess
5. King Scheme, the Lion King color scheme chart...
6. King Beggar
7. King Native Village
11. King Ambassador

Also, I've come across a really weird one...

So, is it true that #2 isn't Baker? I figured #8 was King Masterpiece, but that only turns up images of Transformers for whatever reason...

Also, guess what i had google search for when i stumbled over this:

Edit: Removed because of my stupidity.

Nope.

It's: King Sage. The game is King's Age.

I think I at least figured out what #2 is, though no idea what card it is for.
There's these weird things on the top of the picture sticking out. They're actually even more birds, on some kind of a rope.
She's making a pie, with a lot of birds next to her... it's that nursery rhyme, the one making a pie of blackbirds for the king.

Sing a song of sixpence, a pocketful of rye,
four in twenty blackbirds baked in a pie,
*something something something* the birds began to sing,
*something something* make a dish to serve before the king.

But there's no Dominion card called Blackbird or Sixpence... spoiler for Adventures? Either that, or I just forgot the words, and one of the something's is a Dominion card.

There is in fact a distinctive Dominion card name in that nursery rhyme.

The *king* was in his *counting house*.

Okay, I'm really glad Magpie was previewed today, because I really wanted to guess that that was #2.

I don't remember that line in any version I heard, though I guess it makes sense. However, when you search it, you just get a ton of kings counting money... There's a few pies with birds, but nobody actually baking them.

Maybe we'll need a group effort to get number 10. It looks like a 70's album cover but it could equally be a poster or book cover. It doesn't look like BB King, Ben E King, King, Carole King, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, or King Crimson or any other musical king I can think of. There are King guitars though.

Hints and then I'll fill in the blanks:

8. Nah, you don't need any hints. You're on the right track!
10. Clearly I overestimated how iconic this fictional character was. She's not Albert Einstein.

Number 8 does show up for King+Remake , so it's an alternative answer at worst.

I'm pretty sure that #10 is Survivors + King -- The character is Mother Abagail, from The Stand
