Title: ZM21: Blitz Mafia (On indefinite hold)
Post by: Joseph2302 on January 30, 2015, 11:59:41 am
Welcome to Blitz Mafia 21: Flavour TBC with changes in PINK!
Day 1 will begin TBC. (I'll probably try to avoid weekends)
Mod: Joseph2302 Co-Mod:
Setup Information (Less Pressure (http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Less_Pressure)) but different!
3 Mafia Goons
3 4 Vanilla Townies
2 1 Innocent Children

Mechanics:
This game is Nightless.
This game uses a White Flag: town needs to lynch any two Mafia Goons to win.
Mafia have daytalk.
When the first Mafia Goon is lynched, they get a return kill ("vengekill") at a town player. This must be submitted within 1 hour of the original lynch. Otherwise, a town player will be vengekilled randomly. Mafia may choose not to perform a vengekill, by confirming this in QT.
Innocent Child is announced at the start of the game.
Flavour may be added later

Players:
1. Awaclus (Maybe, signed up months ago)
2. Witherweaver (Maybe, signed up months ago)
3. GreyICE (Maybe, signed up months ago, inactive on forums)
4. Hydrad (Maybe, signed up months ago)
5. Jimmmmm (Maybe, signed up months ago)
6. Seprix
7. Roadrunner7671
8. chairs
Spectators/Maybe get subbed in:
9. iguanaiguana
10. gkrieg13

Joseph2302's Blitz Mafia Ruleset, with changes in PINK

The Golden Rule:
This is a game.  Everyone who signs up to play must be considerate of each other, never get personal, and focus on having fun.  Once the game starts, having signed up is a commitment; inactivity is just as inconsiderate as rude comments.  Read The Civility Pledge (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=7695.0) before signing up for this game.  If you have not /pledged there, you cannot play here.

The Standard Rules:
1.  No communication between players outside of the game thread or QTs at any time.  This includes passing references, jokes, or cases in other games or threads.
2.  If the game thread or QT is locked, do not post.  If you are unsure if something is locked, ask the mod by PM.
3.  Direct or verbatim quoting of mod-provided information is strictly forbidden.  Paraphrasing is okay.
4.  Town night actions must be submitted by PM to the mod within 24 hours of day's end.  The most recent order will always be valid.  There are no nights.
5.  Scum night actions must be submitted in QT within 24 hours of day's end.  Any team member may submit all night actions.  The most recent order(s) will always be valid.  There are no nights. Vengekill action must be done in 1 hour, else random towny is lynched instead.
6.  Players must post once every 24 hours.
7.  Do not edit or delete posts, ever.  If you need to clarify or correct something, post again.
8.  Invisible text, fonts size less than 8, and spoiler tags are not allowed.
9.  Cryptography is not allowed.
10.  The time between a lynch being reached and a flip being provided is called twilight.  All players may continue posting during this time, including the lynched player.
11.  Dead players may not post in thread or QT.  A lynched player is not "dead" until a flip has been provided.

The Voting Rules:
1.  Votes should be in this format: Vote: Playername. Similar syntaxes ARE accepted e.g Vote:Playername, Vote : Playername Unambigiuous nicknames are acceptable, including obvious spelling mistakes.
2.  Unvotes should be in this format: unvote or Unvote: Playername.
3.  Unvotes are not required if changing your vote from one player to another.
4.  You may vote: no lynch if you prefer.  No lynch is not an option.  Most votes at deadline dies; ties are decided using most unique votes i.e. how many different people have voted for the player during that day. If there's still a tie, the person (out of those in the tiebreak) who was voted for most recently will be lynched.
5.  Lynches occur when a simple majority (rounded up) of living players is reached.  Once reached, a lynch cannot be undone.

The Deadlines:
1.  Days will last 1 consecutive 24-hour period.
2.  Nights will last two consecutive 24-hour periods.  There are no nights.
3.  Adjustments may be made to ensure days do not start or end on a Friday or Saturday.  No adjustments will be made.
The Rest:
1.  Bold, pink text is reserved for the Mod(s).  Players may not use them.
2.  If you have an issue or problem with the game, please PM the Mod.  Do not post complaints in the game thread.
3.  Mods make mistakes - please point them out gently.  If they can be corrected, they will.  If irreversible, they will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
4.  If a mod error disadvantages one faction greatly, the game may be called off.
5.  Bold all in-thread Mod questions and requests so that they don’t get missed.
6.  Prods of inactive players will be issued automatically after 48 hours.  A prodded player has 12 hours to respond or risks replacement. No prods, no replacements.
7.  Players may request a prod after 24 hours without a post.
8.  A player who has been prodded 3 times is subject to replacement without further notice.
9.  In reference to 6-8, "inactive" is defined as not having posted in the game thread AND not having provided notice in the VLA Thread (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=3621.0).
10.  All rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, as determined by the mod.
11. Start date TBC, PMs will be sent 1-2 days beforehand. You may request a start date, but ultimately it's the mod's decision.

1) On the tiebreaker, how do you define "unique votes"?
2) Upon the lynch of a teammate, would mafia have the option of declining a vengekill?

1) Unique votes= the number of different people who've voted for that person at any time during the day
2) Sure, if mafia want they can decline a vengekill (although I'm not sure if it's beneficial for them).

I've added these clarifications to the original post. Hope that helps :)

There's still a reasonably good chance that they have the same number of unique votes, though.  I think I like using whoever had the last vote placed on them first as a tiebreaker, since that's (almost?) impossible to tie.

It's obvious that misspellings of names count, but does misspelling the "vote" part count as well?

"the last vote placed on them first'?  Meaning check two (or more) timestamps to compare the final votes on two (or more) people?  A chronological tiebreaker, if you will?

I like that idea.

Seems like an interesting idea, I guess both scum and town could use it to their advantage, so it isn't unbalanced. I've added it to the rules.

For clarification, this means that vote counts will look something like:
Joseph2302 (2, u3, L), meaning 2 votes, 3 unique votes and L meaning that they had the final vote of those on tiebreaker.

I've looked at the rules regarding the second tie-breaker.  Seems like using the most recent vote to decide the lynch would be a lot more game-able (manipulable?) than the earliest (first) one.  Your thoughts?

It probably is more game-able, but as both sides could use it to their advantage, I didn't think it was too much of an issue. I guess I thought some sort of tie-break system would beat randomness. I guess I don't really want the game decided on a dice roll.

Also, I'm now away some of Monday, so start time probably won't be earlier than 4ish Forum time. And obviously we'll only start then if people have actually joined by then.

I guess what I am suggesting is that using the time of the first vote rather than the last vote is less game-able, as it is the more random of the two times.

But I could be wrong, as I was thinking in terms of complete/incomplete information for a given game state.  I'm having trouble expressing my idea, but the time of a first vote is (once cast) is no harder to discern than the time of the last possible vote (which could come at precisely the deadline), so neither represents a more "complete information" situation than the other.  I suspect I'm making a something out of nothing.

But hey, that's how I scumhunt.

The reason I suggested last vote is because it encourages people to work toward a lynch, if it's looking like no one will get lynched.  If there's a tie and deadline is coming up, you want to put your vote down on your preferred candidate among the tied players.  If it went by first vote instead and your preferred candidate already had the first first vote, you wouldn't have to worry about voting, unless you thought someone else would join the other wagon, in which case you could beat them by just joining the one you like later.  But if a lot of people are frantically trying to get the first last vote on their preferred candidate, it will end up pushing both of them toward a lynch.  I don't know if that made sense.

I can see how there might be concerns that that one is game-able.  But I think if it's close enough to deadline and it looks like no one is reaching lynch number, usually it will be chaotic enough anyway that you can't really intentionally take advantage of it.  I think it's actually less game-able than going by first vote.  If you go by first vote, early votes carry a lot more weight, and you could probably shift the momentum of the game one way or another by your timing of casting the first vote on someone.  That's what it seems like to me, but I'm having trouble expressing that thought.  I'm worried somehow it would be optimal in some cases to wait as long as possible before voting someone.

Anyway, it's probably not a big deal anyway, it's just a tiebreaker.  I like both ways better than random though.

Here's a simple solution to the tie-breaker problem:

At the start of the game, randomly order and post a list of players. The tiebreaker is whoever's higher on the list. Then leaving it is a tie is implicitly a vote for the player higher on the list. You might think that's unfair if you're high up on the list, but then just don't let it be a tie.

So, 9th Feb has already happened. I'm V/LA from Monday-Thursday next week (12-16 February) with some access, so either:
(1). Lots of people signup very soon, and we start soon (like this Thursday/Friday).
(2). This gets postponed for a couple of weeks, until when more people want to play.

Looks like (2). is a lot more likely.

That's fine, thank you for signing Civility Pledge as well.

So apparently this has becoming the generic mafia necroing thread.

Assuming people are actually interested (and not just necroing for lolz), I might have time to run this next month.
