There's a lot of non-boardgames that are included in this forum already. There's also a lot of games topics in the General Discussion forum that would have to all be moved in here if this is expanded (e.g., Pokemon, roguelike, etc.)
What do we think?
-
I'm going to skip voting on this because the line--if there is one--is too blurry. Assuming we take "board games" to include card games as well (and I'm pretty sure we're including Dominion, so yeah), Hearthstone and Prismata are card games just as much as Magic or Dominion are, despite the fact that their only playspace is online.
I've never even seen a physical copy of Through the Ages in the wild, but that doesn't mean it's a video game.
-
I'm with Kirian here: I think the name already does include other card games. I know Hanabi isn't a "board game", because it has cards and no board, but nobody would blink if you brought it with you to a local board-game night: it's the same kind of game, even with different physical bits. If you broaden the name to something wider than "board games", do you want it to include stuff like LoL? I'd be against that, myself: it's such a different type of game than what's currently in this forum. And if you don't want it to include that, the current name is fine already.

I suppose one option is to have child boards of this board:
One for board games
One for non-board games
One for arguing into which of the above categories a particular game falls
-
Can we use the board for hide-and-seek strategy discussion?
-
Just call it Other Games and be done. Things will work out, have faith.
-
If you build it, they will come.

This.

Other Kingdom Games is a much better title.

Just leave it as Other Board Games and be done even quicker. Things will work out, have faith.

I like categorizing stuff, so I am all up for more child boards! I think "Board Games" and "Video Games" would be a reasonable distinction. Then each game would go wherever someone actually starts the thread.

Posting begets posting. I think it's better to have forums broad enough to fill up a screen with active threads; when it exceeds that, split it up into two forums. The exception is when you want to be able to hide/ignore a forum.
So, I wouldn't split off video games; it just means forums with fewer active threads. Combining video games and board games is the correct direction, except it's moot at the moment since general discussion doesn't get that much activity either.
-
I'm in favour of either creating a Video Game section, or just changing other Board Games to other Games. Both have advantages, but I think the latter might be better.
-
So hey, this thread is now a year old, still stickied and still nothing has happened despite a majority voting yes. Erm, time to do something?

Who's this Erm guy?

I think the name should change to "other turn-based games."
I know there are those non turn-based physical boardgames out there but ugh man I hate those so much. No one has tried to promote them on this forum so maybe my opinion of them is widespread enough for that name to suffice.
Turn-based or not is a pretty powerful way of classifying games, kind of like asking whether an animal has a spine or not.

What?! You really want to go with (\o/)(\o/ - 1)( \o/ - 2)…(2)(1)? You've gone too far, sir!

You know, at this point we should basically just rename this "Temporum and Other Games." Actually, we could probably just have our own Temporum sub-board.

And maybe remove the Innovation sub-board? I don't think anyone plays that anymore... certainly no one has posted there in over a year.

I rather wish people still played Innovation.
My deluxe box should be in the mail any day now, so hooray for that!
-
What killed online Innovation for me was that all the expansions were released and it was way too many new cards that I suddenly had to learn.
-
there are people playing without expansiosn i think, as well as with only some at a time.
Hurray for Innovation Deluxe finally shipping, though I think I'll stick with my patched version of base/echoes/figures

I just started playing more recently. I'm really glad to have the original version; the new ones just don't look as nice.
