Title: Tournament?
Post by: antony on November 24, 2014, 12:34:53 am
Anyone interested in an innovation tournament?
Suggested format: round robin of 4-game matches (base, echoes, echoes+figures, echoes+figures+cities), to keep everybody happy :-)

I am not happy, since I don't play echoes and cities.

Yeah let's do it!
But wouldn't we need matches with odd numbers of games so that there is no chance of a tie? Or do you want to break ties using spread of achievements?

It's been awhile since I played, but I'd be interested.

Sure.  Not sure those formats are a very accurate cross section of what people want to play though.

Tie can be incorporated into a success metric without a problem. We can also take the number of games as a metric. The possibilities are endless.

Edit: games --> won games.

I would just count ties as... ties.  We can always come up with something else if we need a KO stage.
I personally dislike base but I know others feel similarly about efc so having all "historical" combinations was the best compromise I could come up with (playing extensions not in order never made much sense to me).

Sounds good to me. There will be no "weighting" of different game types, correct? A win is a win.

As in football (one point) or as in chess (half a point)?

Or do most ties win?

As in chess (3 for a win always felt silly to me anyways).  I would use number of games won as a tiebreaker, if needed.

I would suggest a 7 round RR with two rounds per week (one round per week seems too slow for me).  Play 4 games (base, echoes, e/f, e/f/c), defaulting to standard achievement target (but you can play extra achievement if you both agree).  Ranking by number of matches (=4 games) won, with number of games won as tiebreaker.

If no one objects to the format within 24hr, I will create a Challonge bracket with these entries plus whoever posts there before then and send out assignments.

Could the entries be accompanied with the time zones or the times when people would be available to play?

I am UTC+1, can play at about 20:00-22:00 UTC normally.

Oh, hum. Does that mean you're not interested in a ninth?

Hey the format sounds great, I think I can convince another friend of mine to sign up too, so hopefully you will hear from him today.

Good catch re. time zones.  Please PM me your time zones (I will send out PMs asking for that).  I will accept entries until I have everybody's info.
