Title: Dominion Achievements
Post by: werothegreat on October 21, 2014, 03:13:28 pm
Maybe this should go in the Goko subforum?  Eh.

So you know how playing most computer/video games these days, doing certain things will unlock an achievement for you.  There are pretty trite ones like "Complete this level" or "Win with this character," but some of them can involve some rather ridiculous gaming acrobatics to acquire.  They also typically have sassy/clever names.  With that in mind, here are a few achievements I think Dominion should have (and maybe Goko could add).  Feel free to come up with your own!  (I remember iso had some, but they tended to be pretty utilitarian)

Rub-a-dub-dub: Play a Butcher, then a Baker, then a Candlestick Maker.

Bring out your dead: Trash a Rats to a Death Cart.

Indulgence: Trash your entire hand to Chapel.

The Golden Deck: Win on Victory tokens alone with no more than 5 cards in your deck at the end of the game.

Donald X. is proud of you: Pay at least $10 for a Masterpiece.

You used Goons, didn't you? Win with more points than are available through the basic Victory cards.

They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard! Win with all 10 Scouts in your deck.

Nouveau Riche: Use one or more Mines to turn a Copper into a Platinum in one turn.

Stop that! Play a Tournament after an opponent revealed a Province when you played a Tournament earlier that turn.

At least they're not snakes: Have only Rats in your deck.

Variety is the spice of life: Have Fairgrounds worth 28 points each.

All gone! Have no cards in your deck.

I only wanted everything: Empty an entire pile in one turn.

Stop hitting yourself: When Possessing another player, have them play Ambassador to send you a Victory card.

That doesn't work the way you think it does: When Possessing another player, have them generate Victory tokens.

Councilroom.com had achievements (which were different from the very few isotropic achievements). The complete list is in https://github.com/rrenaud/dominionstats/blob/master/goals.py (https://github.com/rrenaud/dominionstats/blob/master/goals.py) although it's not particularly easy to read.

Indulgence is too trivial, I think.  Most of the time you should be doing that with Chapel anyway.

The Golden Deck is weird because an actual Golden Deck will typically finish with 1 Province.  To get this achievement, you'd need to leave the last Province and either run out piles or hope your opponent gets the last one to end the game on a loss.

Achievements like At least they're not snakes and All gone! should probably be avoided.  They encourage poor, un-fun play and probably will only happen in rigged casual games.  OTOH, maybe that's acceptable.

Here are the Council Room achievements, for those who don't want to read through the script:

BOM - bought only money and VP.
BOMinator - won buying only money and VP.
Golfer - won with a negative score.
Pile Driver - own all copies of a card.
One Trick Pony - bought only one type of action.
Mr. Green Genes - bought 6 differently named VP cards.
Buzzer Beater - won by exactly one point.
Anticlimactic - shared a victory with 2+ opponents.
The Flash - won in less than 10 turns.

Vintner - obtained at least 30VP from Vineyards.
Carny - obtained at least 30VP from Fairgrounds.
Gardener - obtained at least 20VP from Gardens.
Duke of Earl - obtained at least 42VP from Dukes and Duchies.
Silk Trader - obtained at least 20VP from Silk Road.

Bully - played an attack every turn after turn 4.
Prize Fighter - acquired all 5 prizes (from Tournament).
Champion Prize Fighter - acquired all 5 prizes in one turn.
Banker - played a Bank worth $10.

Action Star - played at least 25 actions in a turn.
Mega Action Star - played at least 30 actions in a turn.
Super Action Star - played at least 40 actions in a turn.

Mega Turn - bought all the Provinces or Colonies in a single turn.
Oscar the Grouch - trash more than 7 cards in one turn.

Achievements for scoring more than X points:

60: Peer
70: Regent
80: Royal Heir
90: Monarch
100: Imperial
110: Archon

Achievements for scoring more than X points in one turn:

20: Slam
30: Crash
40: Charge
50: KO
60: Blitz
70: Onslaught

MakingFun would like to at some point have a separate achievement for every card; you have to win a game in which you did whatever thing. I made a list through Hinterlands, but since it wasn't happening, I stopped there. I still expect them to get to it. It's a fun thing that rewards you for buying expansions.

That's the point.  A lot of games have "Oops, you killed yourself!" achievements or "Haha you did that stupid thing" achievements, so that's what I was going for.

Those kind of achievements are fine in a single player game, but I hate when I'm playing an online game with someone who throws the game so they can unlock an achievement.

Sure, but these two specific ones aren't the kind of thing that you do by accident.  OK, maybe the Rats one, but getting rid of all your cards is something you have to work hard to do, and then you'll lose.  It think it would be better if the achievements are things you could legitimately discover by accident, or things you can do that can make a game more interesting despite being suboptimal.  Or, at the very least, things that actually make the game fun or funny.

For the "oops you killed yourself" achievements, it could be as simple as ending the game (by buying the last Province, by 3 piling, whatever) on a loss.  Some other ones (without names):

- Letting your opponent get the last Province via Governor.
- Activating a certain number of opponents' Tunnels with discard attacks or Tribute.
- Whiffing on Cutpurse a bunch of times.
- Ending the game with 3+ Gardens but fewer than 30 cards.
- Ending the game with some 2 point Fairgrounds.

For the "stupid thing" achievement, you've already got some other, better ideas.  Stop that! is a useless but harmless thing to do.  The Isengard achievement is sub-optimal but it requires you to win, which means it can be a mini-challenge for yourself (and probably most people would achieve it by pile-driving Scouts on the last turn).

PPE: also, what Drab said. :P

Walking a blue dog- I don't even remember the actual reference anymore but do the one thing
Scrooge- Win without ever buying or gaining treasure

Blue Dog -- IIRC, this would be "play Ironworks to gain something, then reveal Trader".

Scrooge -- not sure if that makes sense.  Scrooge had lots of treasure, right?

OK, here are some ideas:

The Grass is Greener: Win with a deck that is more than 50% VP cards.
I Can Wait: Win a game where the opponent slowplays you.  (Alt: Win a game that took over 30 minutes.)
Generous Friends: Start a turn with 10+ cards in hand before Durations.

Adventurous: Draw 2 Ventures with Adventurer.
Already Read Them: Set aside 5+ cards with Library.

Conspiracy Theory: Activate 3+ Conspirators in a turn.
An Acceptable Offering: Flip two different hybrid VPs with Tribute.
Ace in the Hole: Playing Wishing Well and wish for the Ace of Spades.

Goodwill Ambassador: Ambassador a Province or Colony to an opponent to win the game.
Tennis: Play Ambassador 20 times in one game.
Master Tactician: Discard your hand to Tactician then draw more cards on the same turn.
Living Dangerously: Play Lookout after turn 20.
It's a Big Boat: Smuggle a Province.
Castaway: Island a Hermit.
I Know the Way: Topdeck two Treasure Maps in the buy phase with Watchtower or Royal Seal.
The Best Card: Gain Gold with Explorer on 5 separate turns.

Perfectly Minted: Trash 7+ Copper with Mint.
Silver Lining: Discard 3 Curses to KC-Mountebank.
Rip-Off: Buy a Peddler at full price.

It's a Big Horn: Gain a Colony with Horn of Plenty.
Not So Funny: Distribute all Curses without buying them in a game where Jester is the only attack.

Unfamiliar: Gain a Familiar without a Potion.
Teetotaler: Gain a Potions card without a Potion.

Unfair Trade: Reveal Trader to gain nothing.
Cut a Deal: Gain 7+ cards in the Buy phase with no +Buy.

Defended Property: Forge 2 Fortresses into a Province.
Questionable Property: Forge 2 Rats into a Province.
Well OK Then: Play Band of Misfits as Feast to gain Band of Misfits.
Another Man's Treasure: Gain a Platinum from the Trash.
Joust: Trash 1+ Tournament and 5+ Knights.

I do get to claim credit for One-Trick Pony though!

Variety is the spice of life requires you to have 130 (26*5) unique cards in your deck. How is that supposed to be possible. Have 130 cards alone is already a super hard achievement. 130 uniques should be impossible on Goko.
Title: Re: Dominion Achievements

Some achievements why not:

Matryochka: Play Island to set aside an Island.

Only a flesh wound: Trash an card and regain it from the trash on the same turn.

For bonus points, do it with the Possession/Thief combo.

No, you need 14*5.  Remember, 2 points per 5 uniques.  And I forgot Curse my first time around, so it's actually 28 points.

Needed in Kingdom:

Young Witch
Black Market (Bane)
Hermit
Urchin
Tournament
Knights
Marauder (Spoils/Ruins)
Any Potion card
and of course Fairgrounds.

Use Colony/Platinum and Shelters.

11 Kingdom Cards
25 Black Market Cards
10 Basic cards (4 Victory, 4 Treasure, Curse, Potion)
9 more Knights
5 Ruins
5 Prizes
3 other non-Supply cards
3 Shelters

71 unique cards.

Divide by 5, round down = 14.

14*2 = 28.

Total domination: Achieve a pin combo
Might as well resign: Be on the receiving end of a pin combo
What's the use?: Dead-draw more than 5 action cards at once
Traffic jam: Draw a hand of all terminals
Empty chairs: Draw 3 or more Throne Rooms or King's Courts without other actions
The CEO: Have 100 or more coins during buy phase (inspired by Adam H.)

Fairgrounds 2VP per 5 cards...the fact slipped when writing the post.

Yeah 70 uniques is a stretch but theoretically possible, as you showed. Still, an achievement shouldn't rely on a super constructed board to be remotely achievable.

...But that's not the point of this thread is it.

Is it Moat?: Have at least two different cards in your hand that react when your opponent plays an Attack.
It's not a useless line: Trash a card with a P in its cost with Apprentice.
Mad Camp: Have the Nomad Camp you bought last turn collide with another terminal Action.
The most powerful card in Dominion: Make an opponent topdeck the last card in his hand with Bureaucrat.
Generous: Get -$1 or less with Poor House.
The lucky Chancellor: Play your one Chancellor on turn 3 and every turn after it.
Which one: Reveal three Witches with Advisor.

After Inheritance, Estate gains the abilities and types of the chosen card.  If you use Inheritance on Watchtower, yes, you can reveal your Estates because your Estates are Action-Reaction-Victory.

-I don't like these cards: Buy a card from the Black Market deck before your first shuffle.
-I prefer this card: Before your first shuffle, gain a card with a potion in its cost

I can see Inheriting Black Estates, but you can't use Inheritance on Treasures.

You can inherit Watchtower, buy Squire, trash it to gain Scrying Pool/Familiar.
Can you reveal estates?

Liopoil, you disappoint me. The power of Watchtower is absolute. Its Estate representatives must be similarly powerful if they are to honour its name.
ehh, they still feel like fakes to me.

I think there should be an achievement for gaining all the multiplier cards (Rats and Magpie) without even buying one but I can't think of what it should be called.

(Don't forget Transmute!)

Eh, that's not the only way. Someone could Sabotage your Alchemist or Possession or something.

The isotropic list on page 1 is missing my absolute favorite: Purple Pile Driver: Gain all 10 curses and win.

Nothing more satisfying at the end of a game than having 10 buys and an 11-point lead and needlessly rubbing it in by snagging the entire stack of curses.  I popped quite a few of these  :o  Sorry everyone!

Other achievements:

Master Strategist: Play two Tacticians in one turn -- tough one!
Master Thief: Gain a Gold or Platinum from more than one opponent on one Thief play
Original Megaturn: Gain all of the Provinces in one turn without spending money
MegaMegaTurn: Gain all of the Colonies and Provinces in one turn
Rasputin: End the game by making your opponent gain the last Province on your Ambassador play and win
Swindoozie: Swindle an opponent's Prize card into a Curse.
Rage Quit: Possess an opponent an use his Ambassador or Masquerade to move his Province or Colony to your deck
