Yep, a mod deleted it.  They said it should have been in "Organized Play" despite the fact that (1) it isn't about a local tournament, and the play is almost entirely done, and (2) the third post down, posted 4 days ago... is abut the end of a tournament.  Of course, the automated notice doesn't say which mod did it, and the mod apparently couldn't be bothered to move the thread instead of deleting it.  So... impressively overzealous moderation there.

If someone wants to post this to r/dominion feel free; I'm not really a reddit person.

I'll be streaming from http://www.twitch.tv/ragingduckd.

No audio, as I'm a bit concerned it'll throw my game off, so I'd rather not try it for the first time in the GokoDom finals.

However, I'm also recording the twitch stream itself from another computer.  So those of you who don't watch live will be able to watch the games together with the chatroom commentary.

Edit: The video is available for download (all one file, unfortunately).  I also have a recorded version of the twitch.tv site itself that includes the chatroom comments that spectators made during the games.  Can someone tell me what I should do with that?  I'd like to post it on twitch.tv alongside the other recordings, but I can't figure out how to just upload a video.  Can it be done, or do I need to host it elsewhere?

Match Result: Not yet decided!  So far it's tied at 4-4.  We'll be heading into extra innings on Saturday or Sunday (tbd).

Great match, AI. I watched the first hour live.

5th game (Mountbank, Festival, Gardens) is worth it even as silent.

Yeah, fair point.  I wouldn't want to watch my slow, tedious, silent play either. :P

I'm going to do a little video editing tomorrow.  At a minimum, I'll provide the games with the spectator's chatroom comments.  Ideally, I'll trim the games to a watchable length by cutting out the time that I spend just sitting there thinking, and I'll do a voice-over commentary.  Maybe I could persuade jog to do the voice-over together with me.

That's all assuming that this would be something people would actually want to watch.  Is it?  I don't really have much experience with the whole dominion video thing.

That will be hard, at some times chat messages were added quicker, than I was able to read them.

I saw 78 at one point, think someone else said 80 though. Amazing, never slipped below 50 viewers (except during the intermission, when it slipped to 48)

That would be awesome. I will watch this for sure. Especially if you both comment, but also if you do it alone.

I tried to talk SCSN into doing a life commentary yesterday (with a second stream on top of yours), but we all came up with the idea only shortly before the match, which made the encouragement be somewhat ambushy :)

I won't be at home until Sunday night, so if the continuation is then I might be willing to do this if there's enough interest (let me know in some way if you're interested), though it would be quite the challenge to comment on Andrew's thought process during his elongated ponderings; I'm completely clueless about what's going on!

One the one hand, the double lag (recording, then recording of commentary) could be annoying; on the other, if they play slowly, we won't notice the lag much at all.

Technical there is no double lag, because we would watch the screen recording from SCSN totally in sync with his own audio. He just records the stream from AI. Its like stream hijacking.

I would be interested indeed and appreciate your (amazingly fast) insights and estimations.

I can understand that it could be a challenge, though there is no real need to say something if you dont feel to, people would watch the stream also in silence. As I understand this it is only a generous supplement to the pure video stream.

Another interesting format (maybe also for other occasions) would be to make a skype call with a second forum member so two moderators could discuss what happens and would contribute different ideas.

This is so exciting, especially all the new possible ideas.

EDIT: I guess there has to be a short test run to check whether your internet connection does support the (maybe heavy) data transfer of two streams (down and up).

SCSN's internet connection (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=10772.msg377112#msg377112), apparently, is fast enough to support him meta-commenting on the commentary he's providing on his commentary of AI's stream, all in glorious IMAX-quality high definition. I wouldn't worry about that part.

According to speedtest.net my connection has an upload speed of 93Mbps.

Holy shit.  I don't think I can even buy that as a download speed without getting a dedicated line.  (Checking)  I can buy 110 down/10 up for the low price of $210/mo.  Dayum.

I can't promise it will work out, but the tentative plan is for me and Mic Qsenoch to deliver live commentary directly into Andrew's stream. I've asked Mic because he is the top player whose taste and  approach to the game seem most different from my own, which should make for more interesting comments.

JOG and I will finish our match tomorrow (Sunday) at 2PM PDT (9PM GDT).

As you already know, I don't want to do my own audio commentary during the match, as I'm worried that it'll throw off my game.  However, SCSN has devised an even better solution: live commentary from him and Mic Q!

How this works for you:

Go to my twitch channel (http://www.twitch.tv/ragingduckd) like last time.  You'll be able to watch the game, listen to the commentary, and participate in chat.  SCSN and Mic Q will also be able to see and respond to your chat comments, but there will be a 20-30 second delay (details on this below).

How this will work for us:

1. SCSN and Mic Q will connect directly to my computer using a VNC client.  They'll watch the game in real time and discuss it together over Skype.
2. SCSN will broadcast both the game and their audio commentary to my twitch channel.
3. You'll see the game and hear the commentary with a 20-30 second delay.  That's the minimum that twitch can do, apparently.  JOG is trusting me not to listen to the commentary, and I'm trusting him not to look at my hands.
4. SCSN and Mic Q will see and respond to comments in the twitch chat room.  Bear in mind, however, that although they're seeing your chat instantly, they'll be 20-30 seconds further ahead on the game itself when they do.
5. I'll record the whole thing, including the chat room, from another computer.  I'll post that on either twitch or youtube later.

PS: If you think this is awesome and are inclined to upvote this post, upvote SCSN's post immediately above it instead or in addition.  I'm just describing his idea.  ;)

While this is technically true, keeping up with the hectic chat in the first part of the final frequently made me miss even what Andrew did in the game. Given that now in addition to giving comments of my own I have to be really focussed both on AI's and Jog's actions and whatever it is that Mic says, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the chat goes completely past me. So don't feel slighted if I ignore your comment (or say it's nonsense, for that matter), I love you all the same.

Then a message for those who like to combine their Dominion watching with engaging in drinking games: concerned as I am about your health and safety I contacted a toxicologist, who assured me that if you take no more than four shots at the beginning of any one of Andrew's turns, you'll be sober again by the time the turn is over ;)

In order to win, one must have difference of 2 in match score? Like for example 16-14?

EDIT: Ok I looked it up: It is lead by 1 or more after even number of games. (Which is by 2 if no ties, but with ties it can be just by 1).

Don't worry, probability of it lasting at least 30 games is less than one in a thousand assuming random results.

If they are tied even after 16 games (!) then I really think they should both be the Champions of the world, get a nice Carribean island and constitute a whole new religion.

Just my two Coppers, though.

Congratulations to Andrew for the win.  It was well deserved.

This whole tournament has been great, especially the final.  The kingdoms have been very well designed.
It's unfortunate the games today were not of the same quality as the games we played on Thursday.  Although, I think the ending of game 1 would have been spectacular if AI got another turn.  AI played great today, even in game 1, while I did not play very well at all.
This was my first time playing with designed kingdoms, and it was awesome.   You have to put a lot more thought into the games, and they end up being high quality games that are enjoyable to watch and play.
I would love to see more design challenges in the future.  It would be great to see designed kingdoms used in league play.  Maybe the last week of each season, but I don't know how that would work.

Thanks Polk, Kirian, and GreatExpectations for organizing the Kingdom Design Challenge and the tournament.

If this match goes 5 hours, when will the next installment be on?

TBD

The actual tournament is over now, but we're going to finish up the 8 designed kingdoms for funsies sometime soon, which means I still need to stay clear of that thread. (also I'm not sure if this is the best place to announce that we're going to finish the other kingdoms, but Adam probably mentions it in the video too)

Sorry I had to bail, hopefully I'll be able to finish it up soon.

Also, there may only be two other kingdoms we can play -- I actually helped playtest one of the ones that made it to the end so I've definitely played it before.

Anyways, a write-up of the match will be coming shortly.

The designer of that kingdom* mentioned this in a PM to me. It'd still be fun to play, and since it would be a casual/unrated game anyway I don't care if you've played it before. I guess that really comes down to if we both have time to play all the kingdoms.

There are 5 designed kingdoms that are eligible to be voted upon which you haven't played, yet. At least one (possibly two) Adam playtested. It would be great to have videos of them played, anyway.

Third Place Match: AdamH defeats michaeljb 4-1

Entire stream on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/b/530645038)
Video Playlist on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtK6jaFzLzs&index=46&list=PLHV1uVDYN5Y8ERtK0480cBTfBCv7RpImt)

I had tons of fun playing the designed kingdoms. Hopefully I'll get to making videos for the rest of them soon, but I don't know when that will be just yet. I felt no pressure coming into this match since it's just for-funsies, but I felt like I was playing pretty well and hopefully people got what they wanted out of seeing my perspective of things.

Game 1: michaeljb 12, AdamH 31
Game Log (http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140520/log.5085f5130cf270038ff92212.1400629870095.txt)     Twitch Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/c/4297622)     YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtK6jaFzLzs)
Kingdom Cards: Squire, Shanty Town, Urchin, Bridge, Marauder, Apprentice, Haggler, Library, Harem, Hoard, with Shelters

We both open Urchin/Marauder, I collide mine and he doesn't. Yeah the game is pretty much decided at this point but he doesn't get more Urchins as soon as he could to fall a little further behind. I have a really good position throughout and though I have a little bit of a weird second-to-last hand where I don't want to empty piles, I'm able to win comfortably.

Game 2: AdamH 11, michaeljb 20
Game Log (http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140520/log.5085f5130cf270038ff92212.1400631693611.txt)     Twitch Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/c/4297859)     YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T024t7WHfIU)
Kingdom Cards: Stonemason, Storeroom, Tunnel, Watchtower, Bishop, Fortress, Rats, Catacombs, Minion, Hunting Grounds, with Shelters

Well I don't play this one very well and he does, so I'm just several turns behind him. He uses Rats/Watchtower to get really thin and I don't bother to trash Coppers so I'm just several turns behind going into the endgame.

Reading the chat log from this game, I must say that jsh357, you are hilarious. "Dive into furry Nirvana" "Embrace chaos" these are some of the best Rats one-liners I've ever heard and I just about died laughing.

Also, they're pointing out all of the terrible decisions I made and all sort of tactical things I missed -- my Stonemason trash was pretty bad, and there was a time I could have trashed a Catacombs to his Bishop to get a Fortress, trashing that to put it in my hand which would have stopped a dud hand. This is one of those Dark Ages games that makes your brain hurt.

You make your own shuffle luck.

Game 3: AdamH 43, michaeljb 6
Game Log (http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140520/log.5085f5130cf270038ff92212.1400633824452.txt)     Twitch Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/c/4298321)     YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv4swhnyzs8)
Kingdom Cards: Poor House, Hamlet, Doctor, Oracle, Tunnel, Remake, Sea Hag, Inn, Merchant Guild, King's Court

KC+Poor House -- michaeljb misses the Remake+Poor House thing which appears to set him back. I get thin pretty quickly and I'm able to pile Provinces pretty quickly. The chat is upset at me for missing a 3-pile win the previous turn.

jsh you're once again hilarious -- "Oracle > Sea Hag in hotness" I'm dying here.

Game 4: michaeljb 52, AdamH 52
Game Log (http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140520/log.5085f5130cf270038ff92212.1400635514671.txt)     Twitch Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/c/4298333)     YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcOGSie-y4s)
Kingdom Cards: Scheme, Storeroom, Trade Route, Gardens, Plaza, Throne Room, Counting House, Festival, Inn, Mountebank, with Platinum/Colony

Counting House with all the enablers. Reading the chat there's apparently some kind of infinite combo here that neither of us saw. He puts together a better deck with the use of some tactical Inns that I never found the time for, but I green a little earlier. I'm still in bad shape, but a couple of endgame blunders for michaeljb and he ends up handing the game to me on turns.

From the chat:
Quote
<mic_qsenoch> adam is better than me and this proves it, i don't want to see another "what do the pros think thread ever again?"
<polk5440> oooh
<polk5440> that's quite a compliment
<jsh357> adam's humility is a FACADE

Granted, I wasn't able to build this deck, but there's a takeaway from this kind of thing that's really valuable that I want to hit on: dream big. Whenever I see a board, I make it a point to take a moment and have that pipe dream where my deck does the most awesome thing it possibly can, then I evaluate how realistic it is to achieve. Knowing the coolest, sexiest thing you can do on a board is really valuable for evaluating the strategic landscape of the game.

MQ, let's not forget something, here (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=9095.msg281019#msg281019). I know it's been a long time since then and I'm a MUCH better player now than I was back then, but there's no doubt in my mind that you're a better player than I am. The moment I think I'm the best player of anything is the moment I stop getting better, so who knows how much of my humility is a facade, but I'll never stop it.

This tournament has been so strange for me because I'm the last person who expected me to do this well -- I'm probably going to have trouble reconciling the fact that I can now play with the big boys with the fact that there are still so many weaknesses in my game (Familiar, anyone?) But to have the guy on the top of the leaderboard say this about me is very... wait for it... humbling. Thank you for your kind words.

Later in the chat:

Quote
<mic_qsenoch> ok, adam isn't better than me, i have to take it away, he's just tied with me now, because i would probably play it like this

Better...

Game 5: michaeljb 33, AdamH 52
Game Log (http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20140520/log.5085f5130cf270038ff92212.1400637025367.txt)     Twitch Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/adamhorton/c/4298590)     YouTube Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUUs4n0maf0)
Kingdom Cards: Storeroom, Wishing Well, Coppersmith, Mining Village, Salvager, Throne Room, Mint, Tactician, Bank, Forge, with Platinum/Colony

Well there's Tactician/Storeroom, but the only support is Salvager with Mint to gain extra Salvager food. Once you're doing that, Storeroom kinda leaves the equation. The trouble is, there are only 12 Platina in the pile and it becomes much harder to keep up the pace. Michaeljb goes for the double Tactician deck while I use Tactician to set up a Mint/Platinum turn and get my chunk of Platina. With this high-powered deck I'm able to take enough of a lead that he can't triple-Colony when he needs to (because there aren't enough Platina to go around) and that seals it for me.

Shout-outs to my bro <3

<megan_omcf> i swear, adam is made for streaming
[...]
<megan_omcf> he's got the personality for it

Yeah I've been broadcasting for a while. I'd say it's a good fit for me ;D

The one thing I noticed was that the chat was a lot harder on me when I misplayed than normal -- I suppose everyone else had already seen these kingdoms and they were played already by AI and JOG so there's a high bar to live up to, but I'm proud of the way I played this match. I'm excited now to catch up with the forums and the finals match -- I'll try to stay unspoiled for the rest of the kingdoms but it's not as big of a deal as before.

Again, this tournament has just been surreal for me. A third place finish and the way I got there is something I'm exceedingly proud of and it's awesome that lots of people got to live the dream with me.
