You yankees up north don't know what you're missing.
(I can call you yankees because Maryland is kinda part of the south... right?)
-
It's funny that I always think Waffle House is terrible, but whenever I eat there I usually have pretty good food for the price. I did miss it when I lived in the north for a few years. The Texas melts are great.
As for Maryland, it's kind of a gray area. It didn't secede from the union, but they do serve sweet tea and such. I've always thought of Maryland as a southern state, but the residents may think differently.

Southern Maryland is as white trash as anywhere in the south but everywhere else is pretty middle-class suburbs. I'm actually reading about the two weeks between the surrender of Fort Sumter and Bull Run and Baltimore was just totally secessionist. Probably more so than Richmond. That's fine though, Baltimore is a shithole anyway.

I don't dislike Waffle House, even though I like to call it Awful House just like everyone else.
But I don't think it's all that great. I suppose it's because I'm used to seeing them, and I just haven't been that terribly impressed.
Still, as far as places to invade after a late night of gaming, it's suitable. Better food than Denny's, though the seating is less convenient.

Local Diner > Waffle House > IHOP > Denny's

On the flip side, I prefer Friendly's to all of those, and we don't have Friendly's down here.

Maryland's northern border is literally the Mason-Dixon line, so I think we can consider it part of the South.
However, I'm pretty sure northwestern Ohio is not part of the South, but I live within an easy drive of at least three Waffle Houses.

Also, my taste buds love WH, but my GI tract doesn't. :(

Seriously though Waffle House is great, the further south the better. I was in a singing group in college which sometimes toured across the country, and we were slightly obsessed with Waffle House. To the point where our arrangement of "Ride the Chariot" had lyrics about "ridin' the Chariot to Waffle House"

Waffle House is definitely one of my favorite late night places. As a recent college grad from a school in the Southeast I cannot tell you how many 1am trips to WaHo I have made with my friends.
-
Oh no, that map suggests they are spreading.

I retract this thread. Waffle House betrayed me! I feel awful, nothing like an All Star.

What, did you try the steak? That always seemed a bit sketchy to me

Sounds like a bad plan. I don't think I ever went beyond the basic waffles and hash browns. Possibly eggs and sausage.

I've been traveling through Florida and the Carolinas and my daily Waffle House caught up to me. Ugh.

Ayup, daily WH will destroy your intestines. Delicious, delicious intestinal destruction though.

I still feel like shit. Well at least I'm going home tomorrow.
