Title: Hi!
Post by: Nik on February 19, 2014, 06:27:36 am
I'm Nik the Dominion Player. I have a lot of spare time, AND a gamer family, so we play Dominion almost every day!
I'm DominionGuy on BoardGameGeek.

By the way, I have a few questions:
1. What's respect? (And how do I give it and get it?)
2. How do I get a profile pic?
3. Why does it say 'Herbalist' under my username?

1) You give respect by clicking on the up arrow icon here:

You receive respect by writing insightful or funny posts.

2) Go to Profile -> Forum Profile

3) You have written 7 posts. As you write more posts, there are certain thresholds at which you will get new titles.

Hello!  You had a little bit of an initiation by fire.  But hey -- it's OK!  I started this game thinking that Throne Room / Chancellor was the optimal opening every time.

As for the titles, like Herbalist: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2489.0

Welcome to the forum! Good on you for sticking around after the, er, somewhat blunt reception in that other thread, for which I'd like to apologize for my part in. We all start somewhere, and the more people who love Dominion, the better. Someone will probably be along shortly to tell you about the forum games, in my brief experience with them they're fun but also suck up your life. But so does Dominion.

1. What's respect? (And how do I give it and get it?)

Go to the thread "Homage to the Best Card." You'll get the idea.

Skip Dominion *and* forum games, create memes and bad jokes if you want respect.  (OK, running tournaments helps too.)

I also apologize for my behavior in that other thread. Being told you're totally wrong is not that great of a welcome, but we can't resist, it seems.

Welcome to the forum!

Play with the Dominion games. Don't play with the Dominion games. Don't do either. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?
I mean, what are they like? Fun? Dumb? Strange? Cool?

Adventure game: simulates an adventure
Forum game: arguing with everybody for months

Yeah, makes perfect sense!

The Mafia game looks fun, but how do I tell if it's open or not?

If it's in the "forum games" section, it's open for signups.  If it's not, it's already started.  You can also look at the OP of a thread to see how many people are signed up (or if it's full).
