Title: GokoDom III: Third Theason Thign-up Thread (POSTPONED ONE WEEK)

GokoDom III is here. And if you want my sage advice, you should spice* up your winter by joining us! Don't just commit parsley; say you're in like you mean it.

(Screw you, rosemary, you aren't easy to pun with. And who decided to treat pine needles like a spice in the first place? Seriously.)

We will start in 3 weeks, on 10 February. Signups will be open until 07 February at 00:00 EST. We will use almost the same rules we used in GokoDom II, as they seemed to work out well. Expect to play seven total rounds, plus more if you get into the playoffs.

Assuming we have more than 64 players, I intend to extend the playoff round by one round, in other words, taking the top 16 rather than the top 8. In the same vein, however, I am going to cap entries to 128 players. First come, first served, except for top 8 from last season, or champion from any prior season of IsoDom or GokoDom.

If you'd like to sign up, please indicate your interest below, and indicate whether or not you have all the sets on Goko. Don't worry about whether you have some, or which promos you have; either all sets or not all sets.

*Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme are all herbs, not spices.

As with every other tournament, you're expected to set up a time with your opponent. If you don't show up for the agreed-upon time, and your opponent does, the opponent can claim a forfeit. If this happens early in the week, you should first try to set up a new time.

If for some reason you can't find a suitable time with your opponent, you both receive a draw-by-default.

If you will be unavailable for a week at some point, notify me in advance and you receive a bye-by-request.

Both of those two results are nominally worse than a draw--they each award 1 point and 1 forfeit. Forfeits, however, are only used as a tie-breaker for determining final ranking, not in determining pairing during the tournament rounds.

You just risk playing a match of base Dominion if your opponent has no sets as well, though chances are not that big as most players have sets, especially most of the higher ranked ones and I guess you'd play most rounds against them.

I think it states somewhere in the rules that players without sets are given a special indicator and players with sets are given another indicator. Efforts are made to match players who have no sets with players who do.

Exactly this.

I think there were maybe four or five matchups total in Season 2 where two players with no sets were matched up. Possibly fewer. You'll notice the indicator as a .1 or .2 in the calculation for ordering once the spreadsheet is public.

He has a reputation for using it for any engine even in the absence of Village or Cantrip.

I actually considered 100, and entirely because of calculation time. In fact, I'm likely to try to hire* an assistant this time around just to double-check me, as I made several mistakes in scoring last season (none of which should have contributed to standings). Unfortunately, Challonge can't handle things like requested byes and the like, doesn't handle dropouts well, and obviously can't figure out to pair sets with no sets. If I had more time, I'd try to write something for myself...

...or perhaps not, but I don't actually have the time to write such an app yet anyway. Perhaps someday, when I have time, I can write a challenger to Challonge, but that's... a while in the future.

No it's not. The pairing will attempt to put people without sets paired with people who do have sets. There is only a small chance you will play a game without any sets except base set.

It is 17 February in some parts of the world, yes, but GokoDom runs on US-EST. Nonetheless, pairings should be posted post-haste.
